A near-century old abortion ban that fueled one of the largest ballot drives in Michigan history was repealed Wednesday by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, just months after voters enshrined abortion rights in the state’s constitution.

Thanks ES.

The US appears to be really split over abortion law. Not something we see much of here (Australia). All states allow abortion and there's little significant opposition. The difference probably stems from our much lower level of religiosity.

BTW - What is a 'ballot drive'?

(I gather that's what we in California would call a voter initiative or proposition.) If enough voters sign a petition, then a measure will be put on the ballot at the next election. Michigan voters did so, and this measure won at the ballot box. I believe that measure made the abortion-ban unenforceable (but left it in the state law). This new action by the legislature and the governor has literally stricken the abortion ban from the lawbooks. IANAL, but I think that's the gist of it.

Thanks ES - we have petitions to Parliament but they don't necessarily force any legislative action by Parliament.

There are limits to abortion even in Australia, as there are in Europe, and they are relatively uniform. In Australia, abortion is prohibited after 22 weeks unless two doctors deem it medically necessary.

The US has a patchwork, in comparison.

It's disgusting and I'm ashamed of what my state has done. God will judge this country soon.

Since Roe v Wade is no longer the law of the land for the country as a whole, maybe only Michigan and states like it will be smoten.

In these last days more and more will fall from the Faith. Eventually, those against God, those that don't believe in His death, burial, and resurrection will get the world they want. We continue to fight to save as many babies as we can.

Mock if you want to. The whole world is in a freefall.
Again, how so?

I'm old enough to remember Hal Lindsey. I watched Jack van Impe date set and then redate set. I listened to Prophecy Club and how they hyped Y2K and then changed their "mission" around March 2001. We've been hearing about how God's owed Sodom and Gomorrah an apology for 2 decades.

Conservatives have been shrieking about the end of the Republic, the end of America and end of the world my entire life.
