In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Is believing/faith a work ?

Now believing is either a work of the flesh [unregenerate] or of the Spirit [ regenerated]

But now Salvation is not by works, Neither by works of the flesh or works of the Spirit.

Our belief onto salvation is by the work of our SOUL.

Jesus saved our *souls.* Our flesh was crucified with Christ.

The Spirit must be present when the soul is to make its choice.

For the Spirit must keep our depraved flesh out of the way of the thinking of our soul.
Even though the Spirit is controlling our state of being, its not regeneration at that moment of decision.

Its no more being regenerate than Balaam's mule was regenerate when it spoke.

In Romans 1:18-21 God made total reprobates able to see and know the truth of God. They were not regenerated.
They then chose to reject the truth they received about knowing God.

18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people,
who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them,
because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—
his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made,
so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking
became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.

They knew God!!!!!!!!! Never saved! God caused it!

Your train of logic is saying that God gave those doomed to become sodomites regeneration in order to know God is real.

While the NT asserts salvation by grace. . .through faith (Eph 2:-9)

Now, who we gonna' believe, you or our lyin' eyes on the Scriptures?

Grace is God giving His enabling power to enable our soul to overcome its helpless state of being dominated by the flesh.
As long as the depravity of the flesh has its way over our soul? No one could be free to believe with our soul.

In salvation: Grace controls the flesh as to not interfere with our volition of soul.
While under this state of being momentarily free of the sin nature by grace?
Our soul's decision will be its own. Either to believe in Jesus, or reject.

That is why all will be without excuse.

If God had to make us believe as Calvinism wants us to believe?
All those in Hell should get a lawyer and sue God for unlawful imprisonment.
For, according to Calvinism? They are with a legitimate excuse for not believing....

God sovereignly making someone to be saved is a type of insanity trying to make itself into a norm. Much like a transgender's logic wanting to be accepted as a norm.

In Christ .........

Others are able to get what I am saying.
They will leave you to be without excuse if you fail to become intellectually honest with yourself.

Works = man made religious system of deeds to do to gain God's approval.

Work - that Jesus spoke of? To simply believe in the Son.

One thing I have noticed, and perhaps I am wrong and someone can enlighten me, but I do not see any provision in the OT law of Moses for Hell or eternal punishment. People were going to hell and eternal punishment long before Moses showed up. People are lost because of what happened in the Garden. All the law of Moses did was provided a test by fire to prove that we are lost. It is a test that was meant to be failed. My understanding is the the sins outlined by Moses had penalties, but in the flesh and in this world. There were "just recompense of reward" where every sin had a punishment the equaled the crime.

Hebrews 2:
2 For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

Deuteronomy 25:3
3 Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.
It would seem the eternal hell for a sin of the flesh would be to be excess and reflect badly on God.

If eternal hell was the just recompense for sin then the Cross would have been insufficient payment for Christ did not go to hell. The wages of (Adam's) sin is (spiritual) death. (Romans 6:23) Christ suffered spiritual death on the Cross. Eternal hell is reserved for those who reject Christ for in rejecting Christ, they reject GOD.

The Lake of Fire was not created for man. It was created for Satan and his angels.
The Cross took place to consciously save men from their sins.

The OT times were in many ways used as a teaching tool by God for the angels. Teaching the angels with humans on earth as lessons which were taking place before their eyes. Angels being taught by God in the classroom of the ancient world.

The angels already knew about the Lake of Fire. Man did not yet have to be told directly in the Law.
God kept it simple. Blessing and cursing.

Just the same..

Jesus does mention the Lake of Fire to Jews. So, the concept for punishment for men must have been something the Jews already had in mind!

When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine,
you did for me.’
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for
the devil and his angels." Mat 25:39-41

Spiritual death is the loss of eternal life.

Adam's physical death was because of his spiritual death; i.e., loss of eternal life. . .which was because of his personal sin.

Do we have any Biblical warrant for Jesus suffering spiritual death on the cross?
Then how and when was he reborn?
Do we have any Biblical warrant for the regeneration of Jesus.
Is that anywhere in the NT?

For this makes Jesus a sinner himself.
Did the animal sacrifices become sinners, or did they bear the sin of the Israelite?
The animals were made sin bearers, not sinners themselves.
The OT sacrifices were the pattern for the once-for-all sacrifice for sin.

Scripture states Jesus was a sin-bearer, that he bore our sins (Heb 10:28, 1Pe 2:24) on the tree,
like the animal sacrifices bore the sin of the Israelite, but they did not become a sinner, for animals cannot be sinners.
Jesus was made a sin offering (Ro 8:3, 1Co 15:3, 2 Co 5:21); i.e., sacrifice for us, he was not made a sinner,
and he did not suffer spiritual death on the cross.
EDIT: Forgiveness of sin is by the shedding of blood; i.e., physical death, not spiritual death.

Spiritual death is the loss of eternal life.
We've had this discussion before and you're still wrong. ;) :D

Do we have any Biblical warrant for Jesus suffering spiritual death on the cross?
"My God, my God why have you forsaken me". (Jesus screamed)

Spiritual death is to be disconnected from God for it is our spirits that receives the things of God. Spiritual matters must be spiritually discerned. Spirit (God) to spirit (man).

1 Corinthians 2:14

But the natural man (psuchikos (soulish) man) does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

When our sins hit Christ for the first (and only) time in eternity He was utterly forsaken by the Father. It is a pain none of us can even imagine let alone experienced.

Then how and when was he reborn?
He wasn't reborn, He was born spiritually alive just as Adam had been created spiritually alive. He was without sin, not only did He not have any personal sin, he also did not have the sin nature at work in his body as we do. The sin nature is a physical corruption inherited from Adam and therefore God must impute the consequences of his sin (spiritual death) to us all for righteousness cannot associate with unrighteousness.

For this makes Jesus a sinner himself.
How? It was our sins He suffered for. He had none of His own.

The animals were made sin bearers, not sinners themselves
You answered your own question. :)

I'm sure you've seen the movies where the parent/brother etc takes the rap for a childs/siblings crime. They bear the punishment but that doesn't make them guilty of the crime.

Actually, spiritual death is loss of eternal life in our spirit (removal of God's Holy Spirit life),
[EDIT: i.e., loss of the "born from above," (Jn 3:38)],
which is the loss Adam suffered, both spiritual death and physical death (loss of the soul),
"Dying (spiritually), you shall die (physically)." (Ge 2:17)

Rebirth is spiritual, from spiritual death to eternal (God's) life imparted within our spirit by God's Holy Spirit.

Jesus did not suffer loss of eternal life (spiritual death) and have to be "born from above" again into eternal life.

That is nowhere in the NT.

It's not the loss of eternal life. It is the return of the human spirit to God (in Adam's case). For us, we never had a human spirit (ie.born spiritually dead) which is why we must be born again. Spirit gives birth to spirit, not eternal life. Eternal life is imputed to the human spirit. You cannot have eternal life until you have the right container. Our spirits are the container needed to accept spiritual matters so our souls can feed on the word of God.

As I said, we have already done this discussion (you and I) to death. No pun intended. ;)

Spiritual death is the loss of eternal life.
Spiritual death is simply the lack of being spiritual. Unable to know spiritual truths.

Adam's physical death was because of his spiritual death; i.e., loss of eternal life. . .which was because of his personal sin.

Adam and Eve were redeemed and had their sins covered by the Lord because the Lord knew they had repented, though it was too late to go back to where they had been before in the Garden. We can know they were saved by repentance because blood was shed as to provide them with animal skins.

Do we have any Biblical warrant for Jesus suffering spiritual death on the cross?
Then how and when was he reborn?
Do we have any Biblical warrant for the regeneration of Jesus.
Is that anywhere in the NT?

Jesus while bearing our sins could no longer call God "Father." He was being cut off from his relationship because of our sins. That is why we see Jesus crying out as he had...

About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?”
(which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).

While bearing our sins which caused spiritual death, He could not cry out "Father! Father, why have you forsaken me." Jesus had to resort to the generic impersonal term "God."

It was only after the payment for our sins was completed that he was restored to fellowship.
That is when he began using "Father" once more like he always had.

Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”
When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Just before bearing our sins Jesus used "Father" as well

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

For this makes Jesus a sinner himself.
Did the animal sacrifices become sinners, or did they bear the sin of the Israelite?

Its says he became sin. Not he became a sinner.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."

Don't confuse the two as you have. Its sin that cuts us off from God. Jesus bore our sins, and by proxy, was cut off. .

The animals were made sin bearers, not sinners themselves.
Why can't you see that for Jesus as well? Like the animal Jesus had to die. He died spiritually. And, animal could only symbolize spiritual death, never be the reality like Jesus was.

grace and peace ..........

Consider:
If you are drowning and I pull you out together with me.
I have to be in the pool with you in order for that to happen 'together."

Ephesians 2 talks about us being spiritually dead.
It says we were children of wrath.
It says we were quickened (from spiritual death).
It says we were "quickened together with Christ."
We could not be "quickened together with Christ" unless He was with us in death.... spiritual death.
We were raised up with Him.
That is the argument many will make.

Eph 2:1-6
1 And you did he quicken, when ye were dead through your trespasses and sins,
2 wherein aforetime ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience;
3 among whom we also all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:--
4 but God, being rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, quickened us together with Christ (by grace have ye been saved),
6 and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus:

Spiritual death is simply the lack of being spiritual. Unable to know spiritual truths.
And that is simply an assertion, falling short of a Biblical demonstration of Jesus' spiritual death, or a demonstration of my error in denying Jesus' spiritual death.
[EDIT: Spiritual death is loss of "born from above" (Jn 3:3-8), which was lost in Adam's rebellion. It is not death of one's immortal spirit.]

In the context of the NT, if Jesus died spiritually (as we were when born), then he would have to be spiritually "born from above" again, just as we do, to have a relationship with God.
The "rebirth" or "born from above" of Jesus is nowhere found in the NT.
Adam and Eve were redeemed and had their sins covered by the Lord because the Lord knew they had repented, though it was too late to go back to where they had been before in the Garden. We can know they were saved by repentance because blood was shed as to provide them with animal skins.

Jesus while bearing our sins could no longer call God "Father." He was being cut off from his relationship because of our sins. That is why we see Jesus crying out as he had...
Cut off from "experience" of spiritual relationship does not mean spiritual death, loss of "born from above."
The believer can likewise quench the Holy Spirit and experience no "relationship," but it does not mean spiritual death.
Again, assertion is not Biblical demonstration.

As with the believer who quenches the Holy Spirit, break in "experience" of relationship does not mean spiritual death.
The "born from above" into eternal life within the human spirit, lost by Adam in his rebellion,
do not then lose that life a second time, nor does their immortal spirit, which never died, come back to life a second time.
And neither did Jesus of Nazareth.
Nowhere is that presented in the NT.
Its says he became sin. Not he became a sinner.
It says he was a sin-bearer, that he bore our sins (Heb 10:28, 1Pe 2:24) on the tree,
It says he was made a sin offering (Ro 8:3, 1Co 15:3, 2 Co 5:21); i.e., sacrifice to pay our debt for sin.
"He became sin" must be understood in the above context of the NT to be understood correctly; i.e.
he became a sin offering.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.".
In the context of the rest of the NT, that means he took our sin upon himself, as in the OT sacrificial pattern of Jesus' atoning sacrifice,
where their sin was laid on the heads of the bull (Lev 16:6) and the scapegoat (Lev 16:2), making them sin-bearers, not sin themselves.
Don't confuse the two as you have. Its sin that cuts us off from God. Jesus bore our sins, and by proxy, was cut off. .
I'ts not about my confusion. It's about the contra-Biblical notions of
1) Jesus' spiritual death meaning, contrary to the NT, that Jesus would have to be reborn,
2) Jesus' atonement meaning, contrary to the OT pattern of atonement by sin-bearing, that Jesus became sin (a sinner), and
3) a personal theology driving this whole contra-Biblical human notion of atonement.
Why can't you see that for Jesus as well?
Because both the OT and NT testify to the contrary.

Why can't you see that?
Like the animal Jesus had to die. He died spiritually. And, animal could only symbolize spiritual death, never be the reality like Jesus was.
grace and peace ..........
Assertion without Biblical demonstration, which I have Biblically demonstrated to the contrary,

[EDIT: Forgiveness of sin was by shedding of blood, (Lev 17:11, Heb 9:22) which is physical death, not spiritual death.
Jesus could have died spiritually; i.e., lost eternal (God's) life, simply by sinning, thereby sparing himself the agony of the cross.]

and which demonstration must now be Biblically demonstrated by you to be in error.

Spiritual death is the loss of eternal life.
A clarification is needed:

Adam and Eve did not lose eternal life.
For eternal life was not yet given to them.
You can not lose what you do not have.

Its why the Lord kept them away from the Tree of Life which was to make them live forever.

If they had eternal life? It could not be lost. For it is "eternal life!"
Those having eternal life can never die!

grace and peace....

In the context of the NT, if Jesus died spiritually (as we were when born), then he would have to be spiritually born again, just as we do, to have a relationship with God.

You forget one thing.

Jesus NEVER sinned.

He remained impeccable even while our sins were poured upon his body.

Each sin cut him off from the Father. But each sin DIED with him in spiritual death!
After all of mankind's sins were used up? Jesus could not longer be kept spiritually dead.
For? He himself never sinned.

Jesus did not need to be born again.
For his perfect humanity always remained intact!
It was our sins that were crucified. Jesus had no sin of his own!

After the last sin of mankind was finally poured on Jesus to its death?
Jesus then sensed and knew he was back in fellowship with the Father!

That is why it says the following in John 19:28-30.

After this, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture
would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they
soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it
to Jesus’ lips. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that,
he bowed his head and gave up his spirit."

Jesus sensed and knew the last sin had been taken care of!

Then He made it known to all what had happened by shouting out "IT IS FINISHED!
.... and then voluntarily breathed out his last breath.

grace and peace ........ !
