  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You guys are dreaming if you think US oil companies and producers would go along with a closed market for the purpose of selling below global market rates and driving down their revenues.

Push comes to shove R lawmakers would never go along with it either.

Saudi Arabia and Russia are perhaps trying to manipulate US politics? Not much else explains why the Saudi's would cut oil production in the face of rising demand and an imperiled economy.

Maybe it is time to actually look at how we are spread out in the US and how cities down to towns could be made walkable or just usable by mass transist, bikes, and other means. Not everyone needs a car for day to day business. but we sure made our cities to require it.

Car culture is too ingrained, and well funded, to be changed in anything other than the very long term.

Its insane how baked-in car assumptions are.

I mean every time I go to town I'm like "where do I put this four thousand pound metal boat" just to get some eggs or a coffee.

Yes, it will take decades to reverse it and do it right. It will require a change in the zoning, and increase in population density in some places, and bringing back things like corner stores.

It is doable, but it will take a long time to change what has been built.

The famous Science Fiction writer Ray Bradbury never learned to drive a car. He wasn't OK with a form of transportation that killed so many of his fellow Americans.

Car ownership is a recurrent, predictable wealth transfer engineered on the American population, one that really doesn't live up to the freedom that auto company propaganda promise, but has huge social and economic costs.

Cut off exports of Freon to OPEC countries. See how they do without air conditioning. Europe may freeze this winter, but these guys should MELT.

Actually I do think it is all a progressive plot to green the world and that doesn't happen without $10 a gallon gas.
Alas! Freon has already been banned and replaced thanks to the Greenies.

Saudi Arabia and Russia, acting as leaders of the OPEC Plus energy cartel, agreed on Wednesday to their first large production cut in more than two years in a bid to raise prices, countering efforts by the United States and Europe to choke off the enormous revenue that Moscow reaps from the sale of crude.

To me, all drilling permits on Federal Land that US companies just explore for oil, and if oil is there mark an X on the map for future drilling need to be ALL nationalized. So when we do have situations like this, the US will have their own access to oil without the per barrel cost whims of OPEC.

Nope. Still for sale. And in 99% of residential and automotive air conditioners. The formulations available have changed but you could go out and buy some today.

I don't think people will want to live like that.

You would be supprised. They have been doing it in Europe.

And many of the structures that would help us have been made illegal.

Not really. The number of horses has never met the number of cars we have now.

Heck, horses where made illegal in big cities after a while do to the waste problem they generated.

With tariffs placed specifically on OPEC imports, it would make sense for American and Canadian oil drillers to create a new market... A market with prices dictated by supply and demand, and not Russian policy.

No, it really is OPEC. They're horrible. We should not be relying on Russia and Islamic terrorists for our oil.

Don't worry - joe will strike a deal with a dictator.

Here's where our American gas dollars go when we give it all away to OPEC:

In the meantime, here's an American city in the rustbelt:

...Why are we doing this to ourselves? Do we hate ourselves?

Corner store vs big box store?

I want both. Corner stores in the cities, and downtowns, and big box stores in the suburbs. That's the way it should be.

But there's no reason why our billions of American dollars should be funneled out of this country, so that terrorists and dictators can live in splendor, while so many here live in squalor.

Maybe you guys should put some money into developing your public transportation.

It's too time consuming and impractical. I'd never get anything done if I was dependent on a train or bus schedule.

...That would be a last resort method of transportation for me. Maybe when I retire, or for weekend train rides just for fun, when I have a lot of extra time.

Last time I took a train to San Juan Capistrano, I waited 45 minutes for the last train, only to realize that I was looking at the "weekend schedule" and the last train had already come and gone. I ended up taking an Uber home. In the end, we wasted almost 2 hours waiting, and our legs were sore from walking, and I had chafing on my inner thigh.
