Putin Tells Europe to Pay for Natural Gas in Rubles
Putin Tells Europe to Pay for Natural Gas in Rubles

President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that Russia will only accept
payments in rubles for gas deliveries to "unfriendly countries,"
which include all EU members, after Moscow was hit by unprecedented
sanctions over Ukraine."

"It is clear that delivering our goods to the European Union, the United
States and receiving dollars, euros, other currencies no longer makes
sense to us," Putin said.
-

So Russian announced that gas sales to “unfriendly states”
would be settled only in rubles. This includes all EU
countries, the United States and others.

“By transferring over €600 million every day to Putin to pay
for our energy bill, we are also funding the war. We are paying
for the actions of a war criminal in Moscow. EU leaders can’t
avoid the energy question.”

Will Germany and others pay Russia in rubles? If Germany pays
Russia in rubles, it would further undermine the West’s sanctions.

More and more countries want to become less vulnerable to U.S.

the United States. Joe Biden announced, “[W]e are at an inflection

Will America be the one to lead this “new world order”?

I think the idea behind a new world order is removing the US from the top so Biden seems to have missed that memo. If the US is leading some sort of world order called "new" then the remarks would be that it's just a rebranded current system and not really new at all.

We need to do what is necessary to crank up our production and supply those markets that Russia is attempting to control, this is a matter of national security, forget all about the green new deal and adjust to the realities of the conditions that exist in the world at this time. We can do this just as we were able to use operation warp speed to come up with a vaccine in record time.

How can the Europeans refuse to pay for Russian gas in rubles if Russia is insistent on this point? The Europeans, for the time being, are dependent on this gas Russia.

Easy, they simply call his bluff and refuse to change the terms of their supply contracts. Germany had apparently already done so. Russia then has the option to continue to accept payment, or cut off Europe’s gas supply.

And while that will cause big problems in Europe, it will decimate Russia’s economy, which gets 40% of its entire GDP from those exports. And Europe can simply find other markets.

Australian gas exporters report fielding plenty of overnight calls from European utilities looking to sign up new contracts ASAP.

I've been wanting to harp on this whole situation in other areas too. Most notably the screwed up situation of the new attempted Iranian Nuclear deal, not only the fact that we are dealing with them after they shoot missiles at us in Syria but also that Russia is the one doing the negotiations for us....

This whole situation reminds me of some Biblical passages like regarding "double minded people" out of the epistle of James.

I agree with Putin's idea of dumping those customers. (in effect). They need to work out a different source of oil so as not to be complicit in Putin's bombing of 5 hospitals and a mental health facility as well as bombing humanitarian relief efforts. And the U.S. needs to step up to the Trump plan of being energy independent asap.

Biden and Obama were well suited for "leading from behind" as it turns out.

Was the US ignorant of this result? Never attribute to ignorance what can be attributed to intent.

And Biden is rolling out Fedcoin. He signed a bill recently but WSJ reported it a year ago.

Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers later this year should unveil the initial phase of a project that could produce a Federal Reserve digital dollar, which some have dubbed Fedcoin.

Saudi Arabia and China are discussing payment in yuan for oil.

Simply turning off the gas spigot means Russia has to do something with it. It’s a gas, not a liquid. It might mean flaring the gas into the atmosphere. That’s literally like burning money that Russia desperately needs.

For sure, that's what China wants. Purchasing oil in yuan props their currency and saves them money.

But that continues, however, to be a delicate issue for the Saudis. As far as I can tell, there would not be any benefit to the Saudis...the Chinese need their oil--everyone needs their oil--so they lose nothing by continuing to sell only for US dollars. They will always sell as much oil as they pump, even in US dollars.

The petrodollar deal allows them to buy US Treasury bills at a low rate before they go on auction and get bid higher. The petrodollar deal also makes the US their "bodyguard" (that's the real reason the US was Johnny-on-the-spot to protect Saudi Arabia and Kuwait from Saddam Hussein), and it gives Saudi Arabia access to nice American military toys. The Saudis would have to consider whether they can depend on the Chinese for their defense and their weaponry.

While the US dollar might not seem as sturdy as it once was, the US government can always be expected to do what makes money...a consistent, predictable motivation every other nation can expect.

The Chinese...not so much. There is no confidence that the Chinese will always do the thing that makes money. They're not beyond convulsive actions that hurt even them in the short run to maintain power in the long run...that's a much dicier trading partner.

Of course not.

They all know there's going to be a one world government, but the question is who will lead it. That's what they're all fighting over imo. Putin wouldn't trust the US to lead it anymore than we would trust Russia or China to lead it. The fighting over oil may ensure a country in the ME is the utlimate winner that leads it, which wouldn't be out of sync with scripture imo
