  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wasn't expecting anything. There were no expectations of said experiences in our church community. In fact there was rather the opposite. Those claiming to have heard from God were looked askance at.

And I did (occasionally) walk on water then. :)
So you gave up all this:

Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Psalm 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Romans 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Hebrews 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

... to become an atheist?

Why don't you guys ever read on to verse 6? Is this an example where you think the bible is wrong?

Either that, or we call it Eternal Security (i.e., Once Saved Always Saved).

Nobody ever has.
Nobody ever has what?

Turned their back on Christianity? or lost their salvation?

In any event, what made you give up all those benefits to embrace atheism (as Paul warned)?

Given up your blue wall of random bible babble.

Turned their back on Christianity? or lost their salvation?
Neither.
See above

In any event, what made you give up all those benefits to embrace atheism (as Paul warned)?
What benefits? What benefits are you having me give up?
You mean the benefit of willful ignorance?
The benefit of groveling in blind terror, to a cosmic bully that doesn't exist?
The benefit of self loathing?

And apparently you don't know what you're talking about either.

So you think the bible is wrong?
About Eternal Security?

Of course not.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

That passage I quoted in Hebrews is saying that, even if you backslide (as Paul warns), you won't lose your salvation, because it would require Jesus to come back and die on the Cross again for you.

And that's not how it works.

Hebrews 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

That means that, if you and/or Mr Laurier repent and come back to the fold, you won't have to pray the Sinner's Prayer over again.

All you have to do is ...

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Really? So where it says it's impossible to backslide and then come back to repentance it doesn't actually mean it's impossible to backslide and then come back to repentance. How is that not you saying the bible is wrong?

About the next post like this, and I'm just going to say, "Have a nice day."

I realize you're playing games now.

Probably to avoid answering my question.

Word for word:
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance

Silly me. Of course it doesn't say it's impossible, it says it's impossible. George Orwell would be so proud of you.

It has worked out quite well for me. I was an active christian for 15 years of my life.
Only deconverting at age 21, when the sheer weight of evidence became too overwhelming to ignore. I nevertheless could not accept a life without gods.
I spent the next decade and a half, trying to justify my wishful thinking, that there had to be a god of some sort.
Eventually I was able to accept that all gods were equally absurd. And this led to my arriving at atheism.

So yes, I agree, Personal experience matters. And always beats rationalization.
And I've never gone to any website to engage in trolling either. It a silly and childish behaviour. Why waste time on such nonsense...

So you had a personal relationship with Christ then came to the realization that it wasn’t real?

No. I never met Christ. And neither did you.

It took me till I was age 44. This fact keeps me from judging those who disagree with me as "not smart enough".

Maybe they think commas denote the end of complete thoughts, or even sentences.

So you gave up all this:

[bible snip]

... to become an atheist?

I gave up nothing. I made no conscious choice to stop believing, I just realized one day that I no longer did and since have self-identified as an atheist. (Though outside this board, I mostly keep that to myself.)
