For example, if I say "Next time you drive on the freeway you will see a red car". Lo and behold it comes to pass. Does that make me a prophet and that my writing should be seen a inspired?
No.

But I have to ask:

If I drive on the highway, and I DON'T see a red car, would you realize you just committed an offense worthy of death in the Old Testament?

You're assuming they worked overtime to fulfill the prophecy about Josiah.

1 Kings 13:2 And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burnt upon thee.

I wonder how many priests volunteered to have a guy named Josiah burn them to death on an altar?

But remember the point Adam Clarke made?

When Josiah took the throne, they would have tried everything they could ... and then some ... to keep that prophecy from happening.

All in vain.

Anyone can make a prophecy -- the trick is keeping it from happening.
No you are conflating two different prophecies now. You already lost this one. Move on.

Did I? When did they kill Ezekiel for his failed Tyre prophecy?

You're not familiar with Biblical prophecies, are you?

Just out of curiosity, how much Bible education have you had?

And if any, under what denomination?

Actually I am.
Then why did you call this:

1 Kings 13:2 And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burnt upon thee.

... and this ...

2 Kings 23:20 And he slew all the priests of the high places that were there upon the altars, and burned men's bones upon them, and returned to Jerusalem.

... two different prophecies, when actually they are a prophecy given and a prophecy fulfilled?

Um ... I'm not the one going around denying Biblical prophecies as evidence of Biblical veracity.

In fact, prophecy fulfillment is one of God's major ways of convincing His people who He is, and how to determine truth from error.

Perhaps because you implied that had something to do with Israel as a country. Do you remember the "It has to be clear" rule? In a long rambling book all sorts of passages can be claimed to be prophecy if one allows reinterpretation.

I know. You are the one falling on his face trying to prove that claim. You have as of yet to show a fulfilled prophecy. The Tyre prophecy is one of the worst failed ones in the Bible.

Fair enough.

I'll consider you don't know the difference between a prophecy given, and a prophecy fulfilled.

Even with that fancy post you made detailing the marks of a true prophecy.

Thanks for the QED.

Are you sure the Jonah prophecy isn't Number One in your book? or is it Number Two?

I probably understand better than you do. Your personal beliefs appear to be getting in the way of approaching this rationally. By the way, Jonah appears to be one of the events of the Bible that never happened. How does that help you?

Yeah, and the funny thing about it is that the writer(S?) of Ezekiel ... acknowledges and includes "the failure" in his(their) own writing.

Strange that!

I know that. Which seems to refute the claim that "false prophets are to be put to death". Even worse Ezekiel then added another failed prophecy. The Tyre prophecy is a twofer. After the first one failed he predicted that Nebby would defeat Egypt in his attack. That did not happen either.

Sure, these are problems. Maybe even intractable problems after all considerations can be explored.

However, I don't feel exactly comfortable handling the hermeneutics of these prophetic passages in Ezekiel --or ANY Biblical prophecies--by simply using your interpretive references alone.

Since I asked for them earlier and you didn't provide, I went the 2nd mile and found them myself since I "want to do for others what I'd want them to do for me." So, here they are ...

You see, I'm all about deconstruction, of all kinds.

Dear me!

Look at all these "unfulfilled prophecies" in this link!

Of all the prophecies given in the Bible, is this all they could come up with!?

Oh, I assure you that they have more gripes than what this 'wiki' lists.

But I was asking a similar question to yours when I looked at the very bottom of the wiki page and found a rather paltry and somewhat slanted References section. I expected to see that since it's supposed to be a "rational" wiki, it would be more evenhanded in its approach by also listing more mainstream Christian and even evangelical sources for Hermeneutics and Exegesis to consider alongside the existing sources.

No dice, though, for that expectation of mine.
