  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

An “investor presentation” the company recently filed with the Securities and Exchange commission is provoking guffaws among business analysts, with laughable evasions and barely any business strategy. “It does feel like every public action by this company is designed give the impression that it is a joke,” Bloomberg analyst Matt Levine wrote on Dec. 7.

The oddest part of the TMTG presentation is the “technology team” listed on Slide 21. The company has apparently filled 30 important jobs already, but it only lists these team members with a first name and last initial. The chief technology officer is “Josh A.” “Steve E.” is VP of engineering. One of the senior mobile developers is “BJ.” Are these real people or stand-ins? We may never know: As a footnote explains: “personnel subject to change.”

Other oddities abound. A forecast for the number of monetizable users—81 million by 2026—is based on a Morning Consult poll rather any internal analysis. Other forecasts, for subscriptions and revenue, are represented by question marks rather than the actual numbers (even if inflated) found in most business proposals. The “key advisor” whose logo appears on every page is EF Hutton. But this isn’t the storied brokerage firm. It’s a reboot of a brokerage named Kingswood Capital Markets that dates all the way to 2020 and recently bought rights to the EF Hutton name.
Sounds like Elizabeth Holmes consulted with them.

Former president Donald Trump’s upstart social network is probably months away from being fully operational, potentially limiting his ability to influence the midterm elections, according to people familiar with the fledgling operation.

The pace of development for Truth Social has at times frustrated Trump, who has discussed but ultimately turned down opportunities to work with other platforms in the fast-growing universe of right-wing social media sites, said three people familiar with the discussions, who like others in this article spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters. He is holding out for his own venture, which he believes will be more lucrative and gives him more control, advisers say. [eyes on the prize!]

Trump Media CEO Devin Nunes, the former California GOP congressman who resigned Jan. 4 to assume the post, has been calling others seeking advice about how to build the company, but has not conducted a noticeable hiring campaign in Silicon Valley, according to two venture capitalists with ties to conservative politics.

The [announced] November beta launch appeared not to take place

A preorder page for Truth Social in Apple’s App Store lists an “expected” launch date of Feb. 21, but people familiar with the effort said it could be months before it’s fully operational.

Trump 'TRUTH Social' developing content moderation practices to ensure 'family-friendly' community

We want this to be a very safe place,' Nunes said.

[Maybe even a safe space.]

Both Nunes and former President Donald Trump separately have told Fox Business that TRUTH Social is expected to be up and running by the end of the first quarter of 2022. Nunes told Fox Business that the company is on track.

Hive co-founder and CEO Kevin Guo told Fox Business that his company’s AI model will be used for TRUTH Social to offer content moderation for posts to ensure sexually-explicit content, and posts that include violence, bullying, hate speech, and spam never make it to the platform.

How long until Donald is banned by his own social media site?

Donald is constructing a Safe Space? But of course he is.

Now, should he run in 2024, he will, of course, divest himself of his business by selling it, because a man as dedicated to freedom and democracy would never condone state-run media in...

Hmmm.... nope, couldn't keep a straight face.

On the Truthiness beat:

Here’s a Long List of What Went Wrong When Trump's Truth Social App Launched on the App Store

Trump’s Truth Social’s disastrous launch raises doubts about its long-term viability
‘The basic thing they needed to actually get right, to get someone in the door, they couldn’t get right,’ one researcher said
Although Trump has criticized [other] social networks’ “wildly aggressive censorship,” his site’s “terms of service” mark some extensive restrictions for acceptable speech. People are banned from trying to “trick” or “mislead” other users, violating anyone’s “privacy or publicity rights,” or posting messages that “depict violence” or include messages related to “sexual fetishes,” “sugar babies” or “sexually suggestive” phrases. People are also forbidden from posting anything “false,” “indecent,” “misleading,” “profane,” “obscene,” “filthy” or “otherwise objectionable.”

[No wonder Trump himself has yet to post any 'truths'.]

Truth Social has already banned an account named for a Twitter parody that targeted former congressman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), who resigned from Congress to become the Trump company’s CEO.

The site’s terms of service also show it is designed to benefit from Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which Trump has said should be “completely terminated” because it protects tech companies from being sued for what their users post.

Guess it's not the promised bastion of free speech then.

Free speech for $4.99/month.

Truth Social is free, so far as I know. However, several rightwing social apps were able to launch ahead of Truth, and one does cost money and uses Trump in its advertising, presumably in the hopes of finding some small number of gullible people among Trump fans.

This screenshot shows a different app called 2nd1st. While it’s possible that this miscaptioned screenshot was shared with the intent of bringing bad press to Trump’s new app, it’s also possible that this was done in error, as 2nd1st bills itself as “America’s social app for truth,” calls itself the free speech platform, and includes several pictures of the Trump family on its app page.

In fact, back in October 2021, Trump sent a cease and desist letter demanding that the app stopped using his likeness. The NY Post reported:

A mysterious social media app appears to be luring people to pay $4.99 a week to access the app while claiming that President Donald Trump is on the platform.

Many people are saying this is probably owned by the defeated former President.

Trump’s Truth Social App Plummets in Traffic, Sees 93% Drop in Signups Since Launch Week

Carr explained that the initial signup errors and download issues also likely contributed to the slowdown in traffic. Users are still downloading the app only to get waitlisted. Despite being billed as “the place where you could engage with your favorite ex president,” Carr said, “it turned out there wasn’t much for them to do there.”

Meanwhile, some are still questioning why the former president has yet to post anything on his own social network after a month of operation.

Gosh, I wonder what happened to all the money that got raised?
Hiring of Devin Nunes, suggests to me this was just a grift from the outset. Much like hiring Guliani to take election fraud to the courts. More for show and building enthusiasm and get people donating. But really no intent to deliver what is promised to those donating.
Trump's Trump University and his pardoning of Bannon for stealing from the Build the Wall fund shows that Trump and his kind are just out to grab money from their supporters. Milk, milk, milk.... it never stops

no intent to deliver what is promised

That summarises the four years of Trump's presidency. Or, put another way - 'presidency'.

'We will build a wall, a beautiful wall.' (Not built and not beautiful.)

'And Mexico are gonna pay for it.' (Oh no they aren't.)

'We are gonna lock her up!' (No action taken. Nothing to see here.)

Former President Donald Trump’s troubled social media platform can add one more problem to its list of woes: Fake government accounts. Impersonators on Truth Social grabbed handles used by law enforcement agencies, branches of the military, and federal officials.

The Daily Dot found more than a dozen accounts on Truth Social whose handles match those government entities and representatives use on their verified Twitter accounts. These include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Justice Department, United States Navy, United States Army, New York City Police Department (NYPD), the White House, the President of the United States, the White House Press Secretary, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Treasury Department, the Department of Homeland Security, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the State Department. In Truth Social’s defense, none of these accounts are verified.
