when you can't remember it's an example of poor memory

whereas we can remember all these things
You claiming to remember something differently is not the same as you actually having a correct memory.
often our memories are from decades of experience
How do you tell the difference between a long term erroneous memory and a Mandela Effect?

you merely doubt

Haven't you shared your false memories of how things are spelled in this thread or others like it? Or are there other false memories you'd care to share?

You may check…

Can I?

Many people remember J.C. Penney spelled differently.

J.C. Penny is how I always remember it.

Apparently you *have* posted your false memories in this thread. :)

Frankly I don't find your error all that surprising, or that many have made the same error. It's clear that thinking the store shared a spelling with the coin of the exact same pronunciation is just an accidental remapping of memories. It seems quite natural and quite unremarkable.

I'm not sure I could have spelled the store, but as some one who got most of his "nice clothes" in childhood from that store, I did notice long ago that the coin and store had different spellings.

Your memory is correct.

Penny was my memory.
