How common is it for people to get Mumps, Rubella, Measles, Smallpox after being vaccinated against them?
With mumps it's quite common. The mumps vaccine is less effective against current strains of the virus and immunity wanes somewhat after 10 or 15 years. I see that the CDC describes two doses of the MMR vaccine as being 88% effective against mumps and 93% effective against measles. Smallpox virus was eliminated from the world by mass (often mandatory) vaccination, coupled with contact tracing -- so people aren't even vaccinated against it anymore.

I know where that name comes from, and I know why it is being used: Covid: India tells social media firms to remove 'India variant' from content

Early in the pandemic, there were many who didn't take it all that seriously. Too bad they don't get blamed equally: Nancy Pelosi Visits San Francisco's Chinatown Amid Coronavirus Concerns

Wow....racist against, geeze thought we were over this racist stuff.

We don't call diseases after where they are from because often that's not WHERE they are from, just where they are first discovered. The response to the name creates the haraassment and attacks on those related to the name, just like your second example being extremely racist and bigoted, and having no purpose. So you kinda owned yourself with your second example proving the point of the first.

I did the right thing during 2020, wore a mask and kept distance...

Did the right thing in 2021, got vaccinated...

This particular reversal in mask guidance? I'm not so sure...

Given the CDC directors comments and statements earlier, there seems to be a breakdown in the logic somewhere.

She openly acknowledged that the chance of contracting any serious level of disease when vaccinated is low... she also acknowledged that while it's still possible to transmit with an asymptomatic infection, it's less likely.

We know that the vaccine is widely available for anyone who wants to get one and there's no supply issues stopping anyone from getting vaccinated.

We know that infections in the age group that's not currently eligible are overwhelmingly mild or asymptomatic.

Given these pieces of info, wouldn't that mean that me going back to wearing a mask is solely for the benefit of anti-vaccine types who don't take it seriously and have no intention of getting vaccinated anyway?

Maybe we can come up with a new term for people like myself who have no interest in going back to masking for the benefit of people who've used words like "sheeple" to describe me for the last 18 months. Maybe "second wave anti-mask"? Sort of like the term "second wave feminist"?
Yeah, I’m pretty upset about this. I will be going back to wearing a mask because a huge number of people are refusing to get vaccinated. I think it’s the right thing to do but only about half of the country seems to be concerned with the general welfare of our society. And every day I see people saying absolutely ignorant things about the vaccines or COVID. There is SO MUCH EVIDENCE that the vaccine is working! There is also ample evidence tracing outbreaks to super-spreader events where people were unmasked.

My second example was about Nancy Pelosi (a white democrat) not taking the virus seriously. Racist and bigoted? Hmmm.

Wearing a mask won't protect you. Dr. Fauci said so. Wearing a mask "because a huge number of people are refusing to get vaccinated" is a response generated from fear, not science.

That's what we're told. But Sparagmos said, "I will be going back to wearing a mask because a huge number of people are refusing to get vaccinated.", so I thought he meant that he was trying to protect himself against the unvaccinated.

Case in point, repeating misinformation even though you’ve seen and heard explanations and facts that show otherwise.

I think what is basically happening, though the media is slow to admit it, is that this virus is punching through our vaccines. More intensely and quickly than experts had predicted. Hence the recommendation.

Does anyone really listen to the CDC anymore...?

They are like "spam" emails at this point
Yes. I do. It makes perfect sense that in areas with a big resurgence, some precautions should come back.

What people don't understand is that the pandemic isn't over.

I repeat: It's not over.

Not only is there still a huge amount of humanity that isn't vaccinated, but there is still a huge danger of escape variant developing at places with a high vaccination percentage coupled with many cases.

Stopping the virus prevention activities now would be like stopping to care for an accident victim just because you managed to stop the bleeding.

Or, for our sports fans, it would be like not coming out for the second half of a sports game just because you're leading after the first half.

If we go by the numbers, sick leave is not "traditional." It's rather the minority of jobs, numerically, that provide sick leave benefits.

Crazy, isn't it? That's why people were saying America was very vulnerable to this sort of pandemic. It isn't even normal to have sick leave in this country, something that almost all industrialized countries enjoy as a right.

Genesis 4:1-13
New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition

4 Now the man knew his wife Eve, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, “I have produced[a] a man with the help of the Lord.” 2 Next she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a tiller of the ground. 3 In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground, 4 and Abel for his part brought of the firstlings of his flock, their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, 5 but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. 6 The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is lurking at the door; its desire is for you, but you must master it.”

8 Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let us go out to the field.” And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel, and killed him. 9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” He said, “I do not know; am I my brother’s keeper?” 10 And the Lord said, “What have you done? Listen; your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground! 11 And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it will no longer yield to you its strength; you will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.” 13 Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is greater than I can bear!

To answer the question, yes we are our brothers keeper.

Looks like it's time for a history lesson.
Pelosi visited Chinatown and encouraged others to do so. This was reported on February 24th, 2020.

"Pelosi was critical of the President's proposal to cut $1 billion out of the CDC's budget at a stressful time as coronavirus containment efforts are underway. However, she expressed confidence in federal health leaders.

"I trust Dr. Fauci at the National Institutes of Health, and he seems to have confidence in what we are doing," she said.

The Speaker says there's no reason for people to live in fear."

Now let's take a look at what happened prior to this.
DEC. 31

Chinese authorities treated dozens of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause.
On Dec. 31, the government in Wuhan, China, confirmed that health authorities were treating dozens of cases. Days later, researchers in China identified a new virus that had infected dozens of people in Asia. At the time, there was no evidence that the virus was readily spread by humans. Health officials in China said they were monitoring it to prevent the outbreak from developing into something more severe.

first known death from an illness caused by the virus, which had infected dozens of people. The 61-year-old man who died was a regular customer at the market in Wuhan. The report of his death came just before one of China’s biggest holidays, when hundreds of millions of people travel across the country.

JAN. 20

Other countries, including the United States, confirmed cases.
The first confirmed cases outside mainland China occurred in Japan, South Korea and Thailand, according to the W.H.O.’s first situation report. The first confirmed case in the United States came the next day in Washington State, where a man in his 30s developed symptoms after returning from a trip to Wuhan.

JAN. 23

Wuhan, a city of more than 11 million, was cut off by the Chinese authorities.

The Chinese authorities closed off Wuhan by canceling planes and trains leaving the city, and suspending buses, subways and ferries within it. At this point, at least 17 people had died and more than 570 others had been infected, including in Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, South Korea and the United States.

JAN. 30

The W.H.O. declared a global health emergency.
Amid thousands of new cases in China, a “public health emergency of international concern” was officially declared by the W.H.O. China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said that it would continue to work with the W.H.O. and other countries to protect public health, and the U.S. State Department warned travelers to avoid China.

suspended entry into the United States by any foreign nationals who had traveled to China in the past 14 days, excluding the immediate family members of American citizens or permanent residents. By this date, 213 people had died and nearly 9,800 had been infected worldwide.

FEB. 2

The first coronavirus death was reported outside China.
A 44-year-old man in the Philippines died after being infected, officials said, the first death reported outside China. By this point, more than 360 people had died.

FEB. 7

A Chinese doctor who tried to raise the alarm died.
Dr. Li Wenliang, a Chinese doctor, died after contracting the coronavirus, he was hailed as a hero by many for trying to ring early alarms that infections could spin out of control.

In early January, the authorities reprimanded him, and he was forced to sign a statement denouncing his warning Dr. Li’s death provoked anger and frustration at how the Chinese government mishandled the situation.

FEB. 11

The disease the virus causes was named.
The W.H.O. proposed an official name for the disease the virus causes: Covid-19, an acronym that stands for coronavirus disease 2019. The name makes no reference to any of the people, places, or animals associated with the coronavirus, given the goal to avoid stigma.

died on Feb. 14 at a hospital in Paris, in what was the first coronavirus death outside Asia, the authorities said. It was the fourth death from the virus outside mainland China, where about 1,500 people had died, most of them in Hubei Province.

I liken it to being in a car on a hill. Don't apply the brakes and the car will rapidly accelerate until a disastrous impact occurs. Applying the brakes (e.g. preventative measures) can slow the descent.

But we're still on the hill. Taking our foot off the brakes only risks the car speeding up again.

Given these pieces of info, wouldn't that mean that me going back to wearing a mask is solely for the benefit of anti-vaccine types who don't take it seriously and have no intention of getting vaccinated anyway?
Mostly, yes, and also their secondary victims they would give the virus to also, in homes.

We will have to sacrifice for all their sakes. If everyone wears a mask that will help the unvaccinated to wear a mask.

Some will realize the anti vaccine stuff was false, and turn and get vaccinations in the next few months. Others that were just very cautious now can see the odds put waiting as clearly risky.
