  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Again I ask why they are not fully enforced? Do we have any ideas what is blocking this currently? Do we have data on what laws are being enforced and which are not? What data do you have showing the lack of enforcement?

I suggest we talk to law enforcement whom are charged with overseeing these laws to get their input. I further suggest we lift the moratorium on studying fun deaths so that we can start collecting meaningful data.

I don't have an answer for it. Police can press the charges, then it takes a DA to follow it through and push for strict sentencing. That is why I am in favor of mandatory sentences.

I think it might be as simple as that - first offense min 1 year - second min 5 years - third min 15 years.

No early release, no plea bargains. Particularly for felons.

The data shows that harsher sentences for any crime does not solve the problem.

I would like to try that out on some former recent administration officials...

But that really does not answer the questions does it? If we have no data on the laws not being enforced how can we claim enforcing them will somehow make a difference?

The data shows that harsher sentences for any crime does not solve the problem.

The data also shows cities like Chicago with a volume of strict gun restrictions are more dangerous than comparable size cities like Houston that have open carry.

Why is any law about firearms required to guarantee perfection?

That's my point. We keep hearing about how the laws don't work. Now we need news laws that don't work. How about we recognize that gun regulation laws are not working, so we should do something else?

Which provisions in this law would really work to keep guns out of the hands of criminals?

The ones that you would really hate.

EXACTLY! People who follow the law are not the ones using guns violently. The only people that stricter laws would incumber are those who would follow them.

The issue remains unchanged.

You notice how you guys never really answer? It's interesting.
Who are “you guys”?

Nothing personal, but I’m off the CF clock for the evening. Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow.

Sounds good. You guys, the left leaning individuals on this thread who just won't answer the questions. That's who. It's a simple question, but no one will answer.

I know right? Next thing they'll be requiring people to register their cars too, even hold a licence to drive one and making them take out insurance!

Nobody is working toward confiscating cars.
Or creating so many obstacles as to effectively banning them.
I had a little pistol in the USA, but when I moved to NYC,
I had to give it up.
Nobody is trying to legislate until you can't have a car.
There certainly is a strong push toward making gun
ownership all but impossible.

Then too, it's a constitutional issue.
First amendment?
In Romania in the day you could own a typewriter
but it had to be registered, a copy of its typing
kept on file lest you try a little
"first amendment " protest!

Living now where our rights are under full scale assault
I'd suggest as a fan of America that you all think
beyond facile slogans before accepting more
and more layers of government control.

Here, we've no choice.
