Nobody is working toward confiscating cars.
Or creating so many obstacles as to effectively banning them.
I had a little pistol in the USA, but when I moved to NYC,
I had to give it up.
Nobody is trying to legislate until you can't have a car.
There certainly is a strong push toward making gun
ownership all but impossible.
Unless your little pistol had a threaded barrel (or any of a number of other features that would be unlikely to be seen on a pistol I would classify as "little"), there's nothing in NYC law that would prevent you from owning it once you obtained a license.

New York has similar restrictions on car ownership. You must have a license in order to operate one, and your vehicle must be inspected annually in order to make sure that it is in good operating condition

If this bill is typical of this alleged push it's a non issue. This bill could not get a cosponsor and has not so much as been removed from the comity room draw it was plopped into coming up on two months ago. It has a vanishingly small chance of getting a vote and even less of a chance of passing.

I will take your word on that but there is a strong
push for extreme regulations / confiscation, is there not?

Not really. There's a strong push for more regulations, though whether or not those regulations would qualify as extreme depends on your point of view. For some people, any regulation is extreme. However, there is not any realistic push for confiscation. I think Beto O'Rourke is the only mainstream politician to even suggest such a thing in recent years, and he took a TON of flak for it from both sides.

I had to look up "threaded barrel". And no, it didn't.
A very unmilitary or secret agent "ladysmith"
with nice rosewood handles.

The rules and restrictions were too many for me.
Being able to have it with me was the main reason for it.
Kinda like a car, that way!

As for a car, I could have afforded the cost
and jumped the hoops but its so impractical
to have a car on Manhattan!

I think the tax I’ve been hearing about sounds extreme. Now I’m not sure if this is true but I heard like $800 per firearm which in my opinion is very extreme if that is true because most guns done cost anywhere near that much to buy. That’s my big concern.

Fair enough - I do know that NYC doesn't allow concealed carry unless you're a cop/former cop or specially licensed security guard. But that's not really a situation of "having" to get rid of it. You chose to get rid of it - just like you chose not to have a car.

Geology degree, though I no longer work in the field. This account dates back to my college days.

I'm not aware of any realistic proposals for an $800 tax. Biden did propose requiring a $200 tax stamp for "assault weapons" during his campaign (similar to the current program for supressors), but I don't think there's been any motion in Congress on that front.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t intend to start any rumors on the subject just throwing it out there to see if anyone else had heard anything about it.

I'd disagree on the degree of choice involved.
Geology was half of my undergrad double major.
What work did you do?
My then- boyfriend took me out to well sites to
do mud logging. Bits of crinoids coming up from
deep below a Kansas wheat field...!

How so? You may disagree with having to make the choice, but there exists the same degree of choice between choosing to license and register your gun and choosing to license and register your car. Neither is forced up on you. In fact, it could be argued that you have less choice for the car, as it's significantly more difficult to operate a vehicle without the proper licensing and registration than it is to carry a gun without the proper permits. Furthermore, cars are generally far more necessary for day-to-day life than guns - even in NYC.

Cool! I was a lab guy - primarily geochronology.

Seemed like onerous regs that eliminated any
possible resson to keep it, so I gave it to a girl-
friend.

Geochron...in what application?

Still not seeing the difference - in both cases, the hassle of ownership was too much to justify it for you.

Mostly U-Pb and Rb-Sr, dating igneous rocks. Lots of playing with acids and mass spectrometers.

let's try it this way...IF, after much effort you
can have a car, but you cannot drive it outdoors?

That's not a difference in the degree of choice. Again, you decided that the hassles of gun ownership in NYC exceeded the benefits you would get from it. The same as how you decided that the hassles of car ownership in NYC exceeded the benefits. The differences in the extent of the restrictions did not, in any way, limit your choice. Of course they influenced it, but nothing forced you to give up your gun - or your car - besides your own personal calculus. Other people in the same situation have chosen differently - for both cases.

H.R.127: Is this Unconstitutional overreach from
authoritarian socialists bent on gun confiscation?
Text - H.R.127 - 117th Congress (2021-2022): Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act | Congress.gov | Library of Congress
-

STOP EXTREME GUN CONTROL BILL H.R. 127
jbs.org/alert/stop-extreme-gun-control-bill-h-r-127/

"Members of Congress are seeking to pass an extreme and unconstitutional
gun control bill that would effectively nullify the Second Amendment.

Here are the highlights of H.R. 127’s provisions:

It creates a national firearm registry that anyone – including every
level of law enforcement and the military – can access.

The registry would require one to tell the government exactly
where one’s firearms are stored.

One would need a license simply to own a firearm.
Mandatory “psychological evaluations” are required receive this license.

One would need to pay $800 for “firearm insurance.”

It would enact extreme ammunition restrictions, including
a ban on magazines more than 10 rounds.

Violating the above provisions could lead to a prison sentence
of up to 40 years and a fine of up to $150,000."
How is any of this """"extreme""""?

Right so the bill is still gathering dust in the same drawer it was back in March. Should I still be stockpiling guns and ammo or has this bill been stopped per the demand of the OP?
