Would you support legal action against Trump for the riots?
Our opinions are only opinions, but a U.S. Attorney can charge those breaking the law.
Here's the law, as conveyed via the Heritage Foundation (a very conservative group that's been around a long time) --
"The Federal Anti-Riot Act (18 U.S.C § 2101) allows the federal government to go after anyone who “travels in interstate or foreign commerce” or who uses “any facility of interstate or foreign commerce, including, but not limited to, the mail, telegraph, telephone, radio or television” [e.g. twitter, facebook, texting, etc.] to “incite a riot; or to organize, promote, encourage, participate in or carry on a riot; or to commit any act of violence in furtherance of a riot.”
This Federal Law Can Be Used to Charge Violent Rioters
Of course, it's not only individuals that do the destructive or violent actions that are illegal (it's illegal to assault officers, other people, destroy federal property like windows, etc.), but
also anyone that incites
the illegal actions (the vandalism, assaults, etc.).
If charges are brought, then it's the normal processes of the accused possibly working out a plea deal, or being tried in a trial even, or at times receiving a pardon for their crime.
I'd strongly recommend only the leaders that incited or committed the clearly criminal actions be charged, and
not the relatively naive and mostly innocent (by virtue of lacking understanding) followers who just went along, believing (mistakenly) that they were doing reasonable or just actions of mere protest. I'd not wish to see anyone charged merely for following others into the Capitol, but anyone committing any assault or vandalism charged, and also anyone clearly inciting the criminal actions. An U.S. Attorney could examine evidence to reasonably decide whether to bring charges against President Trump, for instance, or any other individual.
