When confronted with the "defund the police" argument we keep hearing from those on the extreme Left, they usually respond with, "Oh, we don't actually want to defund them or eliminate them, but rather to divert some of the funding they get to other programs". That's just more manipulation of the English language they've been using since the beginning.

Now let's listen to those who are being a little more honest about their intentions:

Opinion | Yes, We Mean Literally Abolish the Police

Or we can listen to Francesca Hong who is running for Wisconsin State Assembly:

"I think there needs to be an understanding that calling for an abolishing of police is a larger vision," Hong said. "How we get there is going to depend on local communities and local municipalities bringing more community control."

"Abolish the Police" really means "REPLACE the Police with OUR Gestapo/Brownshirts/Shock troops". Everything old is new again

Well the police and the military have been stomping grounds for the neo nazis and their ilk for a while . They’ve been encouraging their members to join both in order to make it easy to abuse and kill minorities. I can understand why “defund the police “ is becoming an issue. A lot of police units are firing racists as they don’t want the chaos (and lawsuits ) they cause

The whole party is being moved in that direction.

So I guess then by the same token we can say that the whole of the Republican party is moving in the direction of the extreme far-right?

Would only be fair after all...

Just because one party is moving to it's extreme doesn't mean the other one is as well.

Yet, that is what I have seen, but if you say so...

No, but we can find extreme examples of far-right opinions from, say, actual Nazi's who are Republicans and just paint the whole party as holding those opinions, correct?

Interesting. However, being only 13 posts into this thread, it's a bit too early to be going off-topic.

" ... OUR Gestapo/Brownshirts/Shock troops".

I don't know what the context was supposed to be except the aftermath of our assassination but around a year ago I saw two separate organised uniformed gangs in my town in England.

Nah, that happened in 2014-15 with the tea party, which has basically become the republican party at this stage.

There is a diversity of opinion on “the left” as to what to do about those problems with the police. No one saying defund means abolish. It’s strange that instead of the simplest explanation that we have different opinions you’re going with we all want to abolish the police but are using different terms? C”mon...

And very, very few ppl left of center want to abolish the police. You really don’t need to worry about that ever happening.

I was thinking more Casey Jones from the Ninja Turtles beating people up for minor stuff like jaywalking. I used to think he was funny until I started seeing the news about how many POC are being harassed or even murdered for doing normal things by the police and by ordinary white citizens.
