There is also no causal link between adulterers, fornicators and drunks that he mentions. What I think people are misconstruing is that I don't think Folau was singling out gays. His message was to sinners in general and he names several sins. It was the media who edited things to only focus on gays and abortion. These are sensitive topics so they are easy to use to provoke reactions.
So in that sense what he and other preachers are saying is that sin is the cause of the destruction of society/humans and the environment and not gays, drunks or fornicators. Just like in the bible when God judged Pharaoh and other nations for their sin and reined plagues and disasters on them some believe that this has been happening.
So the sin of sexual immorality, fornication, adultery causes problems like relationship, family and community breakdowns and abortion. The sin of anger, pride, theft and covertness causes disputes, conflicts and war within communities and between nations. The sin of materialism, selfishness, money causes the destruction of the environment through climate change.
Folau and others like him are simply saying what preachers have said for many years that sin leads to the breakdown of society. I happen to disagree with his approach but we should not be surprised that some people preach this way. So my question is do they have a right to preach this or does society put some bans in place.
