He often lashed out at people for calling him bigoted, saying they were just city dwellers with different standards.

I seriously doubt that. I honestly can't think of a single instance, much less this being an occurrence one might describe as happening 'often'. Do you have examples you can think of?

If we explore this more deeply from a purely evolutionary perspective, the OP's behaviour could be considered acceptable based on a morality dictated by the natural order of things found in the animal kingdom. Though ethical principles provide us with a sense of structure to conduct ourselves in a societal environment, they are ultimately subjective concepts. What seems horrible to one animal is merely indifference to another animal species.
So in a purely evolutionary perspective, nature determined the daughter (the weaker) to submit to the father's (the alpha) decisions in the same way an elderly alpha wolf is discarded by a younger stronger wolf in the pack. "Only the strong shall rule" or something like that.

A different story if there is an inherent universal morality which apparently most here adhere to knowingly and unknowingly.
:doh:where can I start. First off bullying smaller females is common chimpanzee behaviour. Humans are closely related but we aren’t common chimpanzees. That behavior in a human is disrespectful and it’s coercive.
That story about alpha wolves isn’t true. The younger and stronger males lead the pack but they’re there because there might be a danger (like a ) bear in front of them . The older males trail behind to protect the pups.

I'd call that EXAGGERATION. I bet the women in T.I.'s life don’t see any "misogyny" in the $$$ he brings home.
You think acting like a pimp flashing his bling and mistreating his [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]es is being a responsible father and husband then . Yeah I’m exaggerating but money doesn’t make you a good parent or spouse.

I hardly wonder that my racial ideas seem bigoted to one born & reared in the vicinity of cosmopolitan New York, but you may better understand my repulsion to the Jew when I tell you that until I was fourteen years old I do not believe I ever spoke to one or saw one knowingly.

That is "lashing out"? 'I'm not surprised you think I'm bigoted.'

He's not really even defending himself against the charge of bigotry (because, yes, he was an anti-Semite).

  • H. P. Lovecraft to Rheinhart Kleiner, 6 Dec 1915, Letters to Rheinhart Kleiner 27-28

I don't (alas) own this book, and the letter in question has been expurgated in the Arkham House edition of his collected letters. But if you found it in a certain reddit thread, as seems likely, I would also recall this part of what the redditor said, which echoes what I said previously.

Travel, correspondence, broader reading, and world events all expanded Lovecraft's horizons and tempered some of his views - his initial antisemitism, for example, was relieved in part by congenial meetings with Jewish friends like Samuel Loveman, his future wife Sonia Haft Greene, and later young writers like Robert Bloch, Kenneth Sterling, and Julius Schwartz. Lovecraft's anti-Irish phase largely diminished after Irish independence was achieved in 1921, and dwindled after he began corresponding with Robert E. Howard, who identified as Irish-American.

But he was never what you would call not racist.

...

Within the milieu of 1890-1937, pretty much all of Lovecraft's prejudices were common, if not mainstream.

...

The major difference is not that Lovecraft was incredibly racist for his time, but that we have an incredible record of his racism: thousands of pages of letters from an extensive correspondence with dozens of people over a period of years on every conceivable subject. Race is not even one of the main matters Lovecraft discussed, but there's enough raw data that it still adds up to a lot of writing about race.

any man who treats his daughter like that mistrusts and dislikes women .
Nah. If anything he mistrusts and dislikes teenage boys.
I’d call that misogyny and I’d also call it emotional abuse bordering on sexual abuse
I guess you're free to think that, as long as you keep it to yourself. No one has any right to tell a parent how to raise their children. But if you really think this is sexual abuse I'll go get his address so you can call the police. Just don't be surprised when they laugh at you.

Is there ANY command or instruction in Scripture

from Yahuweh Sovereign Creator

that anyone is required to like someone else ? Any at all ?

Then trust?

Where does it say to trust anyone - especially a young person ? or especially someone older ?

"abuse" ? Isn't it far far far worse to let a child grow up royally disobedient and unfaithful ?
I think in Timothy there's several adjectives that apply to boys and girls today - not good adjectives, but accurately descriptive of most children (and adults too)....

"abuse" has become a political/ social pitfall, used by the system for ungodly and unjust actions (and very profitably for many) ...

INSTEAD of politically correct words and ideas,

turn instead to Yahuweh , to His Word, and see what HE SAYS about someone who harms others, and what HE SAYS TO DO..... (He does not miss ANYthing) ....

Yahuweh is Right and Just, Perfect in Every Way, with no iniquity at all.

So no one’s allowed to be disgusted by fathers taking possessive roles in their daughters’ sex lives — in an invasive, humiliating, and unreliable way, no less — unless they subscribe to your particular brand of moral philosophy. Got it.

Misandry.

In case anyone was wondering, and not too busy over obsessing over whether every move a man makes which is not ingratiating to women constitutes misogyny--misandry is the word for male-bashing. In other words, women doing the exact same thing to men.

Just thought you might at least want to know the word.

It seems you and the rapper both believe teenage boys have more agency over teenage girls’ decisions than the teenage girls do themselves. Unless you’re talking about physical force, this literally means you think women are lesser than men. And that easily constitutes misogyny.

I just posted a joke window decal. I've made no comment on what the rapper does, although I'm guessing T.I. stands for "The Idiot".

Some people might ponder how much time anybody spends policing their son's virginity.
Why ? It does not take a lot of time - and it is more important than teaching someone to drive on the correct side of the street.

I think having her hymen checked is obsessive, but I don't think there's anything wrong with protecting your daughter's virginity. Especially when almost all women seem to be careless enough to just 'give away' their special v-card on account of infatuation that scientifically doesn't even last more than 2 years in most cases.

Purity culture is bad because it demonizes sex as a whole--not because it encourages sexual intimacy to stay within the bounds of marriage. I don't know if you've taken a look at our society lately, but ever since the 'pAtRiArChY' crumbled, here are just a few little, itsy bitsy problems that have(coincidentally? I think not)sprouted up;
- Oversexualization of both men and women
- 50% divorce rate
- Women dying their hair obnoxiously bright colors and walking around with unshaved armpits while screaming at people
- The woman owner of YouTube ruining the platform and making it a cesspool of left-wing, bubblewrapped 'family-friendly' nonsense
- Lots and lots more people claiming to be lonely and depressed despite sexual promiscuity and 'independence' becoming more acceptable
- WOMEN ALMOST BEING DRAFTED BY DEFAULT LIKE MEN EVEN THOUGH IT'S A LOUD MINORITY ASKING FOR IT

If anything, a little misogyny is needed to help balance out this insanity -_-

And just to note, NO woman should be allowed in military combat anyways. Women are physically less capable than men in almost every way, and as much as I'm for equal rights anywhere else--a woman on the battlefield will be nothing but dead weight and should be a last resort.

Do not doctors ROUTINELY and ANNUALLY check for cancer ???

Just having Cancer is not a sin. (at least I don't think it is) ....

So then, is protecting family from what God calls serious sin (with potentially eternal consequences) , less important than protecting family from cancer that can usually be easily resolved ?

The difference, jeff, is that when it comes to something like a pap smear, I can decline it, or defer it; I can choose the doctor I prefer to administer it. In short, I make the decisions about what happens in my own body. The doctor doesn't set the time and the terms of the examination.

On the other hand, an adult coercively requiring another adult to undergo this kind of intimate exam (which has no medical purpose) is completely abusive. It also doesn't necessarily offer any protection from sin, serious or otherwise. (On another forum I'm on where this is also being discussed, some members pointed out that a daughter in this predicament may simply choose other sexual activities which are not going to be detected).

So, it is invasive, controlling, degrading, humiliating, and abusive; for no demonstrable good outcome. Hardly a comparable situation to detecting cancer.

Funny, I don't hear you making the same argument as to why men should keep their virginity.

In any case, why is a woman's virginity important? As a woman who has lost hers, I can assure you that I didn't become a different person when I lost it. Does having sex reduce a woman's value? If so, to who? Does it reduce her value to herself? If so, how? Does it reduce her value to her husband? Isn't that suggesting that a woman who is not a virgin when she gets married is "used merchandise"? That's rather degrading of women, isn't it? Can you tell me why, exactly, a woman's virginity is important?

Misogyny is the problem here. It's the idea that men are superior to women that has lead to women being viewed as "rewards" for men in movies - when was the last time you saw a movie where the woman saved the day and a hot young man threw himself at her so she could satisfy her sexual urges as a reward for saving everyone? Yet I can show you countless examples of male heroes getting the woman at the end of movies.

As for your comment about YouTube, your political displeasure does not mean that it's because of gender.

And why do you think an increase in sexual promiscuity should lead to reduced depression?

And just to note, NO woman should be allowed in military combat anyways. Women are physically less capable than men in almost every way, and as much as I'm for equal rights anywhere else--a woman on the battlefield will be nothing but dead weight and should be a last resort.

Funny, I don't hear you making the same argument as to why men should keep their virginity.

That's because a lot of people find men who use women just for sexual pleasure to be disgusting(including myself)--same with the teen boys who enjoy 'cherry picking' young girl's virginities. Traditionally, boys were supposed to be raised into responsible young men capable of owning up to his actions are MARRYING a girl if he wanted to sleep with her. Funny how all that's gone down the chute now and people are complaining about men not being 'manly enough'.

It goes both ways. And for one, women are impacted a lot differently than men by sex. Men are naturally a lot more sexually driven, but with most women, sex has a lot more to do with emotions. To the point where apparently it's a scientific fact that women enjoy sex more if it's with someone, they're emotionally involved with. Now, what's the danger here? Emotions as a whole are unreliable. Emotions don't think the cute summer crush you have is going to be gone by college, or that your 'first love' is more often than not the 'first step in a long line of trial and error'. I also didn't call anyone 'used merchandise' or say that anyone loses value just because they had sex. I pointed it out because you can often tell a lot about a person based on how they treat sex. Most people don't stop to think 'maybe my future spouse would want me to save myself for him/her'. They think 'oh, well he/she should just be fine with it 'cuz they love me'. Selfish much?

Misogyny is the problem here. It's the idea that men are superior to women that has lead to women being viewed as "rewards" for men in movies - when was the last time you saw a movie where the woman saved the day and a hot young man threw himself at her so she could satisfy her sexual urges as a reward for saving everyone? Yet I can show you countless examples of male heroes getting the woman at the end of movies.

I'm assuming you live under a rock, because even back in the old days where women were more commonly the 'reward' in a movie, I recall the man at least being a gentleman and taking the time to protect her and appreciate her. Furthermore, I would like to point out how many women have ridiculous standards for men--but when they're held to the same standards themselves(such as romantic discrimination about weight) they cry 'MISOGYNY!!!'. I also don't want to tell you about the long-standing tradition of women writing books and novels that create such 'perfect men'(who, by the way, are almost always conventionally attractive men that are willing to drop everything and possibly die for some girl they barely know)that women start to become dissatisfied with their own husbands much in the same way otakus become dissatisfied with real women because of anime. Oh yeah...and let's not forget about all of the young and adult women that fetishize gay men and reduce celebrities to nothing but pieces of meat. Why don't you compare the male/female ratio of lemon fanfics based on real-life celebrity men?

As for your comment about YouTube, your political displeasure does not mean that it's because of gender.

Sorry, I forgot to state that I have a strong bias against the mainstream women in power.

And why do you think an increase in sexual promiscuity should lead to reduced depression?
I didn't say it would. I pointed out that even though we achieved what we wanted(which was originally the ability to have sex outside of marriage and divorce be socially acceptable)things have been worse, not better.

Great for those 20 women. I appreciate what they've done for our country--but 20 women(not all of which were even in ground combat)are not going to make me think that the physically weaker gender should be on the battlefield. Air force? Sure. Engineer? Fine. Medic? Awesome. But not ground combat.
