I wasn't going to respond when it was just a couple of people commenting, but when 6 people take a joke window decal seriously it behooves me to inform you all that IT'S A JOKE.

The problem is that there are men out there that feel this way.

Nah, it's not a joke. It's stupid and promotes mysoginistic attitudes which are incredibly harmful.

How is it misogynistic? That means you hate women.
any man who treats his daughter like that mistrusts and dislikes women . I’d call that misogyny and I’d also call it emotional abuse bordering on sexual abuse

Accurate information on what a hymen is . The concept of a intact hymen is actually a myth . Again this is a photo you’ll have to google to get the information . If I were TIs doctors I would have told him that being able to detect virginity was a myth and the virginity test procedure was abusive

It's a joke, but the attitude behind telling the joke is troubling. It's an exaggeration of being overprotective, which means the father is still overprotective.

Overprotective is the wrong word . A father who acts like that is bullying , disrespectful, jealous, or mistrustful. He isn’t protecting his daughter . She needs protection from him because he’s acting like a jealous boyfriend which most daughters think is creepy and controlling behavior

Racist and misogynistic jokes are still racist and misogynistic.

If you are so opposed to racism, why does your signature quote one of the most racist authors of the 20th century? The guy openly declared his admiration for Hitler, and if he was alive today, he would certainly be an alt-right activist.

If we explore this more deeply from a purely evolutionary perspective, the OP's behaviour could be considered acceptable based on a morality dictated by the natural order of things found in the animal kingdom. Though ethical principles provide us with a sense of structure to conduct ourselves in a societal environment, they are ultimately subjective concepts. What seems horrible to one animal is merely indifference to another animal species.
So in a purely evolutionary perspective, nature determined the daughter (the weaker) to submit to the father's (the alpha) decisions in the same way an elderly alpha wolf is discarded by a younger stronger wolf in the pack. "Only the strong shall rule" or something like that.

A different story if there is an inherent universal morality which apparently most here adhere to knowingly and unknowingly.

This has nothing to do with misogyny, it has to do with fatherly love. A guy down my street has this decal on his truck:

It might actually work though - to protect his family and children. There might have to be some adjusting what is done though - like not shooting someone, but still being strictly serious about not letting someone get away with anything that hurts someone in the family.

Why "dislikes"? As far as trust, God says not to trust men nor women.

As for "abuse", that is a social construct, a politically volatile term apparently, being used for a century or more by the godless world often in error and resulting in more injustice and harm than in good.

God gave clear instructions to protect His people and how to deal with anyone who harmed another. His instructions were the best, and not at all based on emotions nor feelings unjustly and so forth - i.e. God is right all the time, and knows what is needed, and knows what to do.

Lovecraft was a racist & homophobe, but that hideous flaw in his character does not, in my view, invalidate his art or some of his other views. The number of authors born more than a century ago who could pass a modern litmus test might be very few.

The guy openly declared his admiration for Hitler, and if he was alive today, he would certainly be an alt-right activist.

It's interesting to see his views on many subjects, including race and politics, evolve over his lifetime. He went from literally publishing a small press journal called the Conservative to being a fan of socialism. If he were alive today, and remained on his trajectory (as seems likely to me) I guarantee he would not be alt-right. One of his last letters is oddly prescient about the future of Republicanism and American society in general:

"Unsupervised capitalism is through. But various Nazi & fascist compromises can be cooked up to save the plutocrats most of their spoils while lulling the growing army of the unpropertied with either a petty programme of panem et circenses, or else a system of artificially created & distributed jobs at starvation wages on the CCC or WPA idea. A regime of that sort, spiced with the right brand of hysterical flag-waving, sloganeering, and verbal constitution-saving, might conceivably be as stable & popular as Hitlerism & that is what the younger & more astute babbitts of the Republican party are quietly & insidiously working toward. Preferring the more civilised alternative of socialism, I can't say that I wish them luck!"

Letter to CL Moore mid-October 1936

Even his occasional 'admiration' for Hitler was a bit tempered:

"I know he’s a clown but god I like the boy!"

For better or worse, Lovecraft died in 1937, before the war or the death camps. To me it's clear he had already seen through Hitler, already placing him in better company than real Nazi sympathizers like Charles Lindbergh.

He was racist even for his time.

I don't think he was, in an era that gave us the revived Klan and Father Coughlin and Nazism. He had the misfortune of being an eloquent writer and thus expressed his racism with a horrible eloquence. His actual ideas were pretty odd (while still repugnant), and often culturist rather than racist. He occasionally talked about how Asian cultures and Jews (some of them... you know... the good Jews like his wife and Sam Loveman and Aryeh Jay) were in some ways superior to Europeans, but he would be perfectly happy if they could all be superior over there and not confuse his beloved New England.

Lots of people called him out on it in his own lifetime.

I've read a lot more letters by Lovecraft rather than to Lovecraft or about Lovecraft, so I may have missed this. Do you have examples you can think of?

He often lashed out at people for calling him bigoted, saying they were just city dwellers with different standards.

I'd call that EXAGGERATION. I bet the women in T.I.'s life don’t see any "misogyny" in the $$$ he brings home.
