Which seems indistinguishable from state socialism.
Socialism often features a "social welfare system" while state capitalism does not. In state capitalism, the state spends those funds on developing domestic industry.

In this case it is the state attempting to mitigate the extremely negative effects of policies put in place by the state itself. This is like a dog chasing its tail.

No, it's the state mitigating the negative effects of free trade.

Free Trade? The problems US farmers are facing today are directly related to the tariff war between the USA and China started by President Trump. Where is free trade a part of this?

So, socialism? OK, as long as we know.

Well as we're learning from Donald, only if it's labeled as such can it be called such. An action that is definitely quid pro quo is not quid pro quo unless those exact words have been said (and not walked back by Mulvaney). So even though this surely looks like socialism if Donald says it's not, it's not! Socialism is an evil of the liberals!

Nah....this is taking taxpayer money and propping up agriculture. Just because the social welfare is going to farmers and not the homeless doesn't make it any less social welfare.

If this were capitalism then we would let failing farmers fail so better farmers could take their place.

Except farms are currently failing due to Trump's policies.

"Socialism: It's only bad when it's used to help left-leaning voters"

Spend tax dollars on military & police expansion: Great!
Spend money helping midwest farmers who tend to vote republican: Sounds Good!
Sending billions of dollars in federal aid to red states in the deep south: No problem with that!
Sending oodles of money & military aid to Israel: We have to support God's chosen people!
...
Using money to make sure everyone has healthcare and that any kid can get a college education regardless of the economic position they were born into: Whoa now, that's tyranny!!! What are you trying to do?!?!? Turn us into Venezuela???? Not on my watch! We need to reduce government spending!

Then that's not capitalism. If you have free trade then the free market should set the standard. But instead you are attempting to prop up failing businesses that are unable to compete in the free market. That's not capitalism.
But you're free to make up some other dumb words or something and pretend it's that.

State capitalism is a real term; it has a Wikipedia page.
You could call it state protectionism. Forgive ignorant peasant rubes such as myself from not understanding the superior wisdom of the benevolent globo-capitalist cosmopolitans.

Lol that's a really insightful criticism.

Spend tax dollars on military & police expansion: Great!

Not socialism...enforcement of the law and protection of the citizenry are two of the most basic functions of every nation, socialist or otherwise.

Spend money helping midwest farmers who tend to vote republican: Sounds Good!

Yeah that's socialist....but we always subsidize farmers. It doesn't matter who is in office.

Sending billions of dollars in federal aid to red states in the deep south: No problem with that!

Sure...socialist.

Sending oodles of money & military aid to Israel: We have to support God's chosen people!

Foreign aid and military support for allies doesn't have anything to do with socialism. Try again.

Using money to make sure everyone has healthcare and that any kid can get a college education regardless of the economic position they were born into: Whoa now, that's tyranny!!! What are you trying to do?!?!? Turn us into Venezuela???? Not on my watch! We need to reduce government spending!

Well....you say that....

Is there anything actually stopping an extremely poor student from getting a federal student loan? I used them to pay for my college....and then I paid them off.

Sure, reform healthcare since it's not subject to the demands of supply.

As for socialism....you're 2 for 4.

My commentary was aimed at highlighting the stereotypical far-right conservative depiction of "socialism".

Obviously the real definition is:
upload_2019-11-2_9-1-21.png

However, in the US, the biggest critics of "socialism" are often arguing against a strawman in which they broadly (and incorrectly) apply the term to any measure (fiscal, legislative, or administrative) that involves taking tax dollars from earnings, and using them to the benefit of someone else.

So, I was simply highlighting the inconsistencies in their position of "the government shouldn't be taking my money and giving it to someone else"
