You see, the GOP defending the current president's racist remarks were merely trying to point out that he was being intolerant based on ethnicity and national origin (three were born here, ), which is seemingly okay in their book... but illegal according to the law books.

They didn't just add the "go back where you came from" language after this event.

That is proof, for those who were disputing it, that it is a known phrase with a history of use in discrimination.

If Trump was somehow unaware of that he would need to note that he was unaware of its historical usage.

But that is unlikely.

More seriously, I've become concerned that the word "racist" has become too charged to be useful in conversation. It's a kind of Godwin's law -- the accusation of racism kinda means "you're in league with Satan", and then the person accused becomes very defensive, because they don't think they're in league with Satan, and useful dialogue has come to a halt.

So it might be more genuinely useful to say "The president is committing harassment of federal employees based on their (perceived) national origin, which is a violation of federal anti-discrimination laws." It's more precise, and while I don't know if the president cares about such issues, for the rest of us it might lead to some useful conversations about what Title VII of the Civil Rights Act actually means.

Your guy made his name, in part, by parading his sexual dalliances and infidelities through the tabloids. More recently, he directed his lawyer to commit campaign finance violations in order to hide the fact that he paid hush money to his pornstar girlfriend whom he was boinking while his wife #3 was home with their new baby. The Mueller report came a hair shy of accusing him of obstruction of justice. He has a history of cheating people and stiffing his creditors just because he can. He revels in gutter fights.

But go ahead and tell the rest of us how he's staving off this exponentially growing depravity and how he's not some literally golden idol to which so many of his fans are bowing down.
