An introduction thread I haven't posted in yet? Here goes. I'm Maria(or at least my baptismal name is Maria) and I'm an alch...I mean Orthodox Christian.

Like most here I'm technically a convert, but I'm a bit unusual in that I come from an entirely irreligious/atheist background. It was quite a journey to get to Christ's church, but I did it! Of course, it wasn't without all its stops along the way. That said, I'm not going anywhere now so no need to worry!

I do also try to be active in the church life. I especially love to sing so I've been helping out with the choir since I was a catechumen. I could honestly talk theology all day every day as well so if teaching opportunities ever come up I'm eager to take on those if possible(perhaps in the church school for all the little kids).

Anyway, that's just a bit about me and my life in the church. See you around!

Hello everyone, my name is Michael and I am a new guy here. I'm an Eastern Orthodox Christian in the Greek Archdiocese's Metropolis of Pittsburgh. I am a convert and was chrismated into the church on the feast of St. Matthew last year (November 12). I come from a high church Lutheran background. I had a long distant interest in Orthodoxy for many years, but after reading the church fathers, especially Gregory of Nyssa's Great Catechism, I made the decision to convert. I'm active in my church which is a mission parish and sometimes serve as a reader. Thank you and God bless, I look forward to interacting with you all on here.

Hi, Mikey, I've heard of St. Gregory of Nyssa but never of his book "The Great Catechism." When it says "great catechism," that doesn't mean that it's hundreds of pages, does it? About how many pages would you say it is, please? I might like to read it.

I'm a few days late, but welcome! I also come from a high church Lutheran background. I'm still a catechumen, and entered the catechumenate on the Feast of the Annunciation this past March. My church is also a mission parish and I also sometimes serve as a reader! Prayers for you!

Oh this thread IS active after all haha!

I'm a "cradle" Orthodox Christian, and have been a long time lurker at these forums, and decided to finally take the plunge. Hopefully we can find some comfort in our struggles this Lenten season!

Hopefully we can. :)

My first year here, almost everyone stopped posting during Lent. (I was brand new to Orthodoxy.) It was a little bit devastating to me lol. Hopefully we will be able to be around this year. Though already I'm too stretched for time and we've barely started anything extra.

You converted from this forum?
I’m another convert who learned a lot about Orthodoxy from TAW :) The person who first invited me to my current parish when I wanted to visit an Orthodox Church was a member here. She saw my request here and invited me to the parish. I’m very thankful to the members here who helped me!

Hello, I am a recent convert, been baptized for over a year now. I come from a sort of 'non-denominational' background. I didn't know much about what I really believed. The more I learned about the literal thousands of theologians and churches out there, the less confident I felt that it was rational to confidentially believe in any human's interpretation. I was considering Buddhism.

Then I came across Eastern Orthodox information on Facebook. I knew only a little from high school World History class, like how the Byzantine Empire fell to the Ottomans. I could have easily converted to Anglican or Coptic Orthodox. In fact, there is an Egyptian cathedral close to where I live I've been meaning to visit. Anglicans like CS Lewis always appealed to me, and I recently found out that he frequented a Greek Orthodox church. I never really considered Roman Catholic because the papacy never made much sense to me, but I like their icons and their people.

I spent most of my childhood attending a Southern Baptist Convention church, and it was a particularly unhealthy church. Unfortunately, it is considered normal by SBC standards. My sister still attends the SBC. I pray for her conversion to something healthier.
