  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I’m anxious to see if a state chooses to step up and prosecute people for importing these drugs. In for a penny in for a pound and all that.
Technically it's already illegal, but the Obama administration opened an informal "personal use" window to the Canadian mail-order pharmacies, because too many old men didn't want to pay $40 a hit for their Viagra.

Yes. I’m definitely for not killing babies.
At least the Catholics have a well-worked out theological argument so support their position on abortion. The johnny-come-lately Protestants apparently have nothing except "intuition."

Hey, you think it’s fine to kill babies in the womb. What argument from me will change that?

How do you know that? All you know about me from what I have posted here is that I don't want right-wing fundamentalist Protestant extremists making laws about it. In fact I am opposed to abortion; I was raised to regard it as a sin and I still do.

So why do you care where the laws come from?

At some point I think even out of state prescriptions or procedures will be in the crosshairs.

Let's put it this way: Suppose we gave you the abortion law you wanted, complete with the misogynistic control over women which has been clearly detailed in this thread. Empowered in that way, what would you want next?

Women choose abortion because they either do not believe that God is the author of ALL life and that He knit the child into the womb and that He has a purpose for each and every life. Or, they do believe that and since do not care. Abortion is done out of fear. There is not one human alive who can predict exactly what abortion will do to a woman. Dead is dead and there is no turning back. Women who keep the child have options because with life there is hope. Once the heart stops beating, your hope has gone. Abortion hurts the woman for the rest of her life. Every time she sees a child that would have been that same age. The baby is in the arms of the Lord. So it is for the emotional, physical and spiritual well being of the mother that abortion should be illegal. I have 2 adopted children. I hold the birth mother up to these kids as a hero for giving them life. I will pray for them and thank them all of my days.
I do respect you for adopting children and giving them a good home. If more people were willing to do that it would have an effect on the number of abortions in this country.

However, I think women choose abortions for much more secular reasons than you appear to think.

So is God the author of life or isn't He? Because if you do a search of the word womb, there are several quotes from the bible. I am just wondering at what point you believe that God is involved in authoring the life of the child? Before or after "fetal viability". Does God not care at all ? History is repeating itself. When the Israelites started treating their children as property to destroy at will, God eventually came down on them fiercely. Wondering how long we have left here in the US.

In all honesty, the thing which makes humans different from the animals doesn't take up residency until just before birth. When one looks around at both nature and the way we build everything, the use of a vessel doesn't start until the vessel is completed.

Ships are not built around the crew which will sail it. The crew is hired after the ship is complete. Birds lay eggs AFTER the nest is built. They don't build the nest around the eggs. It is the nature of this world that occupancy occurs AFTER the construction and not at the beginning of construction.

There is absolutely no reason to think that which makes us different from the animals follows a different path than all the rest of the natural way of this existence.

It's so easy to pass a punitive law to manage the behaviors of people you disapprove of...

It's not so easy to realize that we are all connected. Whether you believe that because God's spirit enlivens each of us, or whether you believe that molecules, even of seemingly solid things, are in constant motion and interaction with one another. When you begin to realize we are all connected, you see that the suffering and mistreatment of others diminishes all of us. That's when you start to realize that passing laws to micromanage the "riffraff" is just an act of soul-numbing callousness that diminishes us as a society and doesn't solve the problem.

The classical 'slippery slope'. People who become fanatical about one point are never satisfied with just one victory.

Hmm, a one child policy. Wonder where that idea has been tried before.
no no I do not care how many children you have if you are able to care for them without government assistance. The one child policy would only apply to people once they were on assistance and would end at such a time that they were able to get off assistance.

Or just force them to go to work. Infrastructure week isn't going to build itself.
Those lazy toddlers just want to play all the time. Put those bums behind some heavy machinery, I say!

Do you think women kill their unborn babies because they don’t think there will be anyone to adopt them?
