Which similarities Mennonites have with Orthodox?

Well most Protestants don't take things like tradition, holiness as far as "separation from the world" seriously (where it might even inconvenience them). The Amish and Mennonites in general are the closest thing to a monastic community that you have speaking of general themes / abstactly of course.

I think they have actually made a concession by only using it for business purposes...I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I remember this from watching a reality t.v. show about them. But,I also think that these were the very progressive Amish groups, and there was controversy among themselves on this issue. Good topic though, from what I have read on this thread and the little I've heard about them else where, I think the Body of Messiah would do well to follow their lead in economics.

There is this Amish restaurant place in Pennsylvania where everything is home made and cooked with out electricity. Probably the best Chicken with mashed potatoes + corn on a cobs i've ever had. They also had home made strawberry ice cream after.

Around towns, they stink but they make good food.

Your right. The anti-technology thing is handled according to their elders and how they judge the needs of the community. There are some communities that have modern tractors, automobiles, and telephone lines to serve specific community and business needs. In the internet ago, I'm sure something like that if it has not already happen, will eventually happened for the sake of communities that need it to make ends meet etc.

Not spreaders of the Good News. Possibly cultish. Though they profess to follow the tenants of Christianity, they do not do the first work. Spread the Gospel. Also, they have an authoritarian rule over the community. A group of Elders who all must follow. Obviously, I am not a fan of this type of Christian expression.

The tragedy of the Internet is that people "think it is better". In reality, the Internet is doing more to destroy Christianity than all other things combined.

I suggested to people here before. If you want to get to really know God ... sell your TV. cancel your FB account, and cancel Twitter.

Seven years ago I took a few days vacation in Amish country, and ate at a restaurant like that. I'm pretty sure they had electricity in it though.

I have a fascination with the Amish for some reason. I have read a lot about them and have signed up for a newsletter from someone who reports Amish news, maybe I wish I could be like them if I wasn't disabled. I remember my family went to an Amish restaurant and the food was great and plentiful.

I forgot, it was back in the early 2k. I'm sure there should be other restaurants around there. I highly recommend the experience.

It really is a shame that people don't know more about the Amish, Mennonites, Hutterites, and other Kingdom Christians, but it isn't their fault. These people came to America to escape the persecution created by the Reformers Luther and Zwingli and the Catholic Church and in doing so isolated themselves and forsook their calling to spread the Gospel of love and forgiveness. These people had the true Gospel message which Luther and Zwingli both agreed with in the early days. But, when Luther and Zwingli realized that they could not create the big numbers that they anticipated in their reformation they joined with the state and flipped their allegiance to Caesar and forced everyone to become Christians against their wills. The Anabaptist held fast to the true way and were labeled as heretics because they opposed infant baptism, practiced true love of their enemies and refused to harm anyone, and separation from the world and lived simple holy lives. But the more they killed the faster they grew. Today they live secluded lives away from the world and have also lost their zeal for evangelism, but that is beginning to change. There is a blood trail that leads all the way back to the first century and that trail will widen in the near future as these simple people find their feet and their voice because their message is still needed today. Protestant Christianity has blindsided people with a message of patriotism, tax exemptions, flag waving, militarism, judging, and even infant baptism. They are trying to plow with an ox and and an ass, they are mixing cotton and wool, and they have introduced much leaven into their message. In short they have prostituted the Gospel and traded their birthright for a bowl of stew. When Kingdom Christians get re-energized as the Holy Spirit is doing right now their persecution will resume because commercial Christianity will not stand for the truth. The Amish will slowly regain their sense of mission as God begins to remodel hearts and minds.

Kingdom Christianity is the term used to differentiate those who hold to the New Testament truth of non-resistance to the evil person as Jesus, His Apostles, and the primitive Church for the first 300 years believed and lived, from Protestant Christianity who believe that patriotism is Godliness and killing your enemy is what the New Testament teaches, and that separation from the world as Jesus taught is not necessary. Protestant Christianity is commercial Christianity, it is no different than the world around them, it is the same in its dress, its music, in it love of entertainment, in it divorce rate, in its gluttony, in its addictions, and in its love of guns and killing and the filth that spews from their TVs. Kingdom Christians are those who really believe that Christ wants them to live the life of heaven right now and not in some future time. "Thy Kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven . . . ." Don't be fooled not everyone who calls themselves "Christian" will enter the Kingdom, but only those who desire to live that life now. The way is not narrow and the gate strait for no reason; only very few will be able to enter. But, the gate is wide and the way easy for those who enter perdition. These are Bible words and not mine, pay attention, time is short.

I kind of like the lifestyle, but not the religious beliefs and convictions they have. Aren't they a split from the Anabaptist? They are an unreached people group, believing in a works-based salvation from what I hear.

I suppose it wouldn't be "salvation," but more like a works-based system to enter some place of glory. I met a guy who believed he went through enough *censored* in life that he has the right to enter Valhalla. I thought they believed you entered it if you died in combat? Who knows.
