From Breaking Israel News:

“And I sought a man among them to repair the wall or to stand in the breach before Me in behalf of this land, that I might not destroy it; but I found none.” Ezekiel 22:30 (The Israel Bible™)

Excerpt:

“The Bible is available to everyone, to teach them,” Rabbi Winston said. “The Prophet Ezekiel was clearly speaking to the Jews in Israel at that time. The U.S. is not Jewish in any way but the moment you have a large Jewish population in that country, it becomes similar to Israel on a level of hashgacha pratit.”

Rabbi Winston said that the verse in Ezekiel could be understood as referring to the current political conflict in the U.S.

“It is relevant to say that the message given by Ezekiel to the Jews of his time can be relevant to Donald Trump and America and what is happening right now,” Rabbi Winston said. “I’m not saying that Ezekiel was speaking directly about Donald Trump and his wall, but I think that it is a useful thing to wonder about. Apparently, the prophet was expressing God’s sentiment that the lack of a wall, any wall, in a place where walls are needed, could be a moral and spiritual disaster.”

Rabbi Hillel Weiss, the spokesman for the Sanhedrin, framed the current partisan political conflict in the U.S. in moral terms, indicating that the opposition to the president indicates a deep spiritual schism.

“The position of Trump and his supporters on the issue of the border wall is not only reasonable, but it is what people have universally agreed upon until today; that a country needs to protect its borders,” Rabbi Weiss told Breaking Israel News. “There has always been a dialogue about how to do so or to what extent. But the claim by the left that borders are immoral is unprecedented. It clearly goes much deeper than this one issue, this one border fence. They believe that nationalism is a murderous belief and that any border or boundary is unacceptable.”

Weiss explained that in the conflict between globalism versus nationalism, the Bible was explicitly on the side of nations.

“The concept of nations, of 70 nations in particular, originated in the Bible,” the rabbi explained. “It was a huge advance for mankind, giving a framework for men to connect to their neighbors in a positive manner. Of course, like any positive thing it can be taken to an extreme and become evil but living with a vague universal concept of brotherhood without boundaries has always led to human suffering. Some aspects of Catholicism which placed the Vatican above the state, and all aspects of communism, tried to wipe out nationalism.”

Rabbi Weiss examined the motives behind opposition to borders.

“People who want to remove the concept of a nation are always motivated by a desire to rule by themselves, he argued. They want to remove boundaries of the nation, boundaries of the family, of relations, and replace them with boundaries that they set.”

The rabbi explained that despite support from the left-wing, the unprecedented left-wing objection to the security wall went counter to traditionally liberal values and is, in fact, anti-Bible in its basis.

Look at the list of sins in Ezekiel 22 that has built up God's wrath --

1. Shedding innocent blood
2. Making Idols
3. treated father and mother with contempt
4. oppressed the foreigner

{hmmm...I think we have a problem...}
5. mistreated the fatherless and the widow
6. desecrated my Sabbaths
7. slanderers
8. eat at the mountain shrines [idols]
9. commit lewd acts
10. dishonor their father’s bed [wow, it just gets worse and worse]
11. In you one man commits a detestable offense with his neighbor’s wife, another shamefully defiles his daughter-in-law, and another violates his sister, his own father’s daughter.
[this is getting hard to even read, yes?.....]
12. you take interest and make a profit from the poor
13. You extort unjust gain from your neighbors
14. And you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign Lord.

No, this isn't about 'conservative' or 'liberal' worldviews, it's about evil.

And someone to stand in the breach means someone that would do what is right, so that by righteous actions of some, God would spare the land. Just like He said He would spare Sodom if 10 righteous could be found in it.

The Bible can be proof-texted to mean just about anything, but racism and separation of children from their parents doesn't seem like God's plan to me.

I think it's a bit of a stretch. Obviously, the Bible has more than a few walls in it.

No - the proposed border wall has nothing to do with biblical prophecy, by Ezekiel or any one else.

The US is not included in any end time prophecy in any form.

No. Ezekiel 22 is about the siege and fall of Jerusalem at the hands of the Babylonians.

21:22 Into his right hand comes the portent for Jerusalem – to set up battering rams, to give the signal for slaughter, to shout out the battle cry, to set up battering rams against the gates, to erect a siege ramp, to build a siege wall.

22:2 “As for you, son of man, are you willing to pronounce judgment, 1 are you willing to pronounce judgment on the bloody city? Then confront her with all her abominable deeds! 22:3 Then say, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: O city, who spills blood within herself [what city? Jerusalem]

22:19 Therefore this is what the sovereign Lord says: ‘Because all of you have become slag, look out! – I am about to gather you in the middle of Jerusalem.

Besides, verse 30 indicates that when God looked for someone to stand in on Jerusalem's behalf (ie, stand on the wall) so that he wouldn't destroy the city (ie, Jerusalem), he found nobody (so not Donal Trump) and so the city was destroyed.

I'm not even sure this passage is even properly classified as a "prophecy" in the way people think about prophecies being predictive events about the future

Thanks for your comments. I was quite surprised there were rabbis alluding these verses could be referencing our 45th President.

I found it interesting the article focused on the opinions of Jewish rabbis who thought there was some parallel.

Rabbi Hillel Weiss, the spokesman for the Sanhedrin,

I find any group calling themselves the "Sanhedrin" a little suspicious too. Israel's government is a secular, parliamentary democracy led by the Knesset, a Prime Minister, and a Supreme Court. There are some religious issues (mainly family issues) that fall under religious courts headed by the Chief Rabbinate. Any related governmental functions once held by the ancient Great Sanhedrin reside in those other offices.

It would be the equivalent of a small group of Americans calling themselves the First Continental Congress, and issuing legislation, legal opinions and such. The rest of us would just think they were a pretty fringe group, and likely nuts.

Does Trump’s Border Wall Fulfil Ezekiel 22?

"Weiss explained that in the conflict between globalism versus nationalism, the Bible was explicitly on the side of nations."

Only a conservative would make the attempt to use Biblical prophecy as the convoluted justification for Trump's "WALL!"

If "the Bible was explicitly on the side of nations," Christianity would have remained an extension of Judaism, rendering the ministry of Paul to the Gentiles without a theological foundation!

As for putting one's faith in the "security" provided by walls, any student of history knows that the Great Wall of China and France's ill-fated Magino Line (1940) never served as effective deterrents in preventing foreign invasions!

Yes until this article I did not know there was a group which called itself the Sanhedrin in Israel.

Have to look into what else they are promoting.

This was surprising:

“The rabbi explained that despite support from the left-wing, the unprecedented left-wing objection to the security wall went counter to traditionally liberal values and is, in fact, anti-Bible in its basis.

“It is not pluralism because they do not accept anyone who disagrees with them, even to allow them to live separately in peace,” Rabbi Weiss maintained. “They want to come across the world to Israel and demand that we open our borders to Hamas. They want to tell Israel where our capital is, or if we can even have a capital. God did not give the entire world to Abraham. He gave the land of Israel to the Jews. The people who oppose Israel and oppose Trump’s border wall support the claim that anyone can claim any land they want.”

Yes I believe this is wholesale eisegesis ignoring the historical context. I see some rabbis apply the method as well (eisegesis).

No. You might as well claim that the wall around a garbage can in an in alley in Mexico fulfills the verse.
