  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Flat earth beliefs are totally in error.

People that believe the earth is flat have never bothered me. As long as they love God and are kind to others, who's to judge? Imagine if our worth or "ignorance" was judged by our grammar and sentence structure...

I don't mind people who believe in it, I mean most people in the world in the past were such. It doesn't change the message of the bible.

There is nothing wrong with judging people that believe the Earth is flat. There is something wrong with them. Most will not actually say they really believe it.

The earth is mostly flat. They are 99.9% correct.

My interest is in the interface between science and religion. For me there is no differentiation, science is one of God's gifts and we need to use it wisely. I wanted to join in on a thread on this subject, but there are so many that I am starting my own.
To begin, there is no way in the reality of our physical observation of the earth it cannot be a sphere. Anyone who argues against that are ignorant. No disrespect there, we are all ignorant when we do not know about something.
God gave us the gift of science, and science is telling us that the earth is a sphere.
This argument must be shelved,, unless God encourages us to continue it.
Well I cannot tell you the true nature of the earth as I have never seen it from the outside looking in. And sadly the only pictures we supposedly have of earth are all computer graphic images...that in itself will make one wonder why we don't have a real picture if the earth is truly the way we are told it is.

From a biblical standpoint I can say that the very first mention of the earth is in Genesis 1:1 and the second mention is Genesis 1:9-13 and neither mention the shape of the earth at all; Job 22:14 states that the sky is circular; Job 26:10 and Proverbs 8:27 state that the waters are circular; Isaiah 40:22 states that God sits above the circle of the earth; and, Revelation 7:1 & 20:8 state that the earth has four corners. From this we may conclude that the heavens and the seas are circular while the earth is square. I say this because while a circle and a sphere are circular and round: a circle is a two dimensional plane figure while a sphere is a three dimensional solid figure. And in the case of a square it always has four corners whereas a cube has eight corners. The circle and square are also the only two dimensional objects which are 360 Degrees by nature.

Unless I missed any passages of scripture giving the shape of the heavens, the earth, and the seas or the ones I have cited are incorrect: the Bible is clearly showing us our earth is flat.

Oh dear, this commitment to the literal truth of the Bible makes me wince. I believe in the Word of God, written in English with an upper case W, who is Jesus, and is my spiritual connection with God (Jesus). The written words of the Bible, in any language or any modern version help in my search for a spiritual connection with God, and I understand early ancient Greek did not have upper case characters, so no real significance in the use of a capital W in some English versions, but it does help to indicate what I am referring to when I write or say the Word of God. I certainly do not mean the literal written words.
Other posters here are correct, I will leave the flat earthers alone and just pray for them.

The world is bounded and handicapped by logic, which is the reason it is always swindled.

Flat earth is a misnomer, and a psychological operation on all parties, but the globe earth is the logical conclusion of a previously swindled population as well.

One thread I participated in on here was completely erased with no explanation after I provided mathematical proof of a manifold terra firma. No one was arguing more than a regular thread, and the opponents actually had decent conversation of learning and respect for the other parties. I have seen much worse on the first page of this thread alone.

The impulse to reject those who even erroneously support a "flat earth" is an exploitation of logical alignments of humans. That is why it is popular again.

As long as humans continue to let other humans lead their thinking, they will be slaves in the mind. Logic is subjectivity; humans LIE even to their entire civilian population - For the purposes of keeping the truth hidden.

It also seems like people (i.e. Christians) don't actually believe this world is controlled by PRINCIPALITIES, ARCHONS AND POWRRS (real spiritual entities), or, the Church does not teach this. If people knew, they would forsake worldly wisdom of things as it is at best foolishness.

Surely one of the characteristics of a true Christian is that we should listen and be patient with anyone, whether or not they are being reasonable? We will not bring anyone else closer to God if we think they are being unreasonable.
Being unreasonable is not the same as being ignorant. We are all ignorant in some respects, but as a Christian we should always try to be reasonable.

Reason is another subjective human construct based on logic.

Humans wouldn't realize their confusion if they were told, shown and lead to their own destruction because we trust other humans (the blind) before ourself, and our Father.

Using "science" as a filler for truth, instead of doing the work is to renege on one's intellectual and psychological sovereignty. Stop letting academics tell you what to think.

Or, continue to let yourself be lead by the blind, and compromise tenants of your spirituality when dealing with non-status quo people.

How could you let anyone that isnt your Father, the Redeemer, or your famity get you to that point? As said, this is an exploitation of the spirit - another dichotomy to rule them all.

As Christians we must attempt to address ignorance. Again no disrespect there, we are all ignorant in some fields. It is good that CF provides a platform for ignorant people to show their ignorance, I just hope and pray that they respond to our admonitions. Jesus will lead them to the truth.
Just which side is the ignorant side?

There are no "sides" when it comes to ignorance. We all fall short of the glory of God. No disrespect to them, but the ignorant masses voted Trump into the presidency of the USA. The ignorant masses voted for the UK to leave the European Union (Brexit). This show of ignorance is by people who continue to believe in a divided world, promoted by the works of the devil.
Flat earthers want to be apart from the mainstream view of the reality of the earth as a sphere, and want us to be seen as taking "sides", as if our God given mortal life was a perpetual contest.
Roll on the Second Coming of Christ when we will all be as one ìn His Body, the universal church of Christ.
I have put a like on the two posts by Kaon as I think he/she is saying the same thing as myself.

Well, this is simple then.. Just post your proof of a globe earth...

In the end, for me.. it matters not, what shape the earth is... we live our daily lives and are not affected by either model.

However, be careful when researching this as there are some very intelligent people with some very repeatable observations.. and.. who are strong Christians.. who will show you that the FE has it's merit. It's not as cut and dried as I thought it would be.

Also... every single person who believes the FE.. started right where you are now.. total disbelief that this is even an option.. laughable, ignorant... farce.. but.. look at them now.

Ignorant masses voted Trump in? Do you not believe that God and only God is in control of this universe.. If Trump, good or bad, was not God's plan for the US at this time in history.. would he be President?

Based on these rhetorical arguments to avoid what is clearly said in scripture brings to light how "devoted and honest" so-called believers are.

Brother Norman70 either God literally created the world or He didn't: Genesis 1:1-2:3 is the foundation of the whole Bible for it is the creation of the world and mankind.

I kindly and respectfully gave scripture to backup my claims now please show yours if you are a real and true adherent to scientific honesty.

Not too long ago I sat transfixed as I watched an hour-long documentary on flat earthers. The thing that intrigued me the most was that they appeared to be absolutely normal in every way. None looked like the Christopher Lloyd character in Back to the Future with his wild hair, wearing various contraptions on his head.

They showed them attending one of their conventions, and any observer could have easily mistaken it for a Tupperware convention. Their conventions are well-attended, drawing people from all over the world.

I was hoping that the documentary would help me understand what drives someone to take such an aberrant view of something so easily proven -- that the earth is an oblate spheroid. What exactly is different about the way their brains work. Unfortunately, the video left me feeling completely unsatisfied in that regard.

They have gone through quite a lot of time and expense to construct working, mechanized models of a flat plane earth having a dome of visible space overhead, with the sun and moon cantilevered out over the plane set on timers to rotate and display how they think the day/night cycle works. It was all very elaborate ... and convincing to someone not grounded in the reality of the true shape of the earth.

They spent quite a lot of time and money traveling to the right kinds of locations to make experiments to prove their theory ... using expensive, powerful lasers to shoot beams of light in a straight line onto tall, measured poles miles away. So far, the curvature of the earth has thwarted every single one of their efforts. But, they remain undeterred. To paraphrase them: "We just haven't come up with the right way to test it yet. But we will. And then the world will know we are right."

I must admit that I had an ulterior motive in trying to get inside the mind of the flat earther. I've been having the same question about a certain level of denying biblical reality among some who view Scripture just off from what is intended by God. I believe there is definitely a similarity in mindset with the flat earthers that I was studying.

Please don't misunderstand what I am saying. I believe flat earthers and those who badly misunderstand God's word are virtually regular, normal people, but there is something just off in their way of thinking as they are completely intransigent and unable to shift their way of thinking in the right direction.

And, like the flat earthers who fail at all their tests to prove their point of view, and who refuse to accept reality when it is explained to them, there are those of faith who fail over and over again to prove their aberrant views of Scripture and refuse to accept the truth when it is told to them.

The only difference I have found between the flat earthers and those who are enthusiasts at misunderstanding Scripture is that the flat earthers are generally harmless and sweet people. Unfortunately, there is a certain subset of Christians who are very activist in their disdain for others who understand differently from them. And they get very ugly, abusive and bullying about it. Ad hominem attacks and name-calling is the norm with them.

I want to state here that this forum is light years better than many of the other Christian debate forums in that regard. Moderation is active here; whereas elsewhere the "antis" own the forums and the moderators are afraid of them. So, kudos for that. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here.

The Bible says that:

"Where there are many words, sin is not lacking: but he who restrains his lips is wise."
-Proverbs 10:19

I used scripture to backup my claims in posts #25, #26, and #35 so, if you or anyone else has found a problem with the scriptures I cited then please expose any errors and I will gladly correct them. Or if you have a counterclaim then please use scripture that describes the earth not being flat.

I answered you in post #35. You on the other hand have yet to point out which scriptures I cited must be taken literally or figuratively. God created the earth--not man--therefore I will always trust what God's Word has to say about God's creations. After all the Manufacturer (God) knows better than the user (man).

And what does your straw man argument of Trump have to do with what the Bible says about the earth?
