SDA may make it a salvific issue, but Protestants don't.

From the forum here that's what and only what it means to most sabbatarians. If you go by the commandment worship has nothing to do with the sabbath. Few if any Christians follow or transfer the 4th commandment to Sunday.

In Catholicism and Orthodoxy, the rule is that Sunday is the Sabbath. Both for rest and for worship. And this has spilled over into much of Protestantism. I wince when I hear this from the pulpit. My current Pastor made such a thing of it that I felt compelled to inform him of my position on the subject. Which he appreciated. I don't think I completely changed his mind, but it was good to let him know where I was at with it. No damage to the relationship over this. We weren't arguing, only discussing.

Why is the day of worship controversial?

I think the controversy is created by those that claim a certain day is God's day of worship/rest, thus discrediting every other day. Although, those who claim Sunday don't seem to discredit other days with the same ferocity as those who claim the seventh day Sabbath.

We are free to worship/rest on any day we choose. IMHO
But if you call your day "God's holy day", what does that say about every other day?

That being said, I agree that the Sabbath is the seventh day. I do not call Sunday the Sabbath. I believe the Sabbath was given by God to the Israelites alone through Moses.

The case for Sunday as a day of worship is more a question of church history than a biblical directive. In fact there is no NT directive for a weekly day of rest/worship. The closest we have is in Romans chapter fourteen, where we see individual choice in the matter.

The Apostle John makes reference to "the Lord's Day" in Rev.1:10. But the exact term (the Lord's Day) is not defined anywhere in scripture. We have to look to the writings of the early church where the term is clearly defined as the first day of the week, the day of our Lord's resurrection, Sunday.

I usually establish and maintain a good relationship with my Pastors. Discussions with this one have been particularly collegial. In fact, I've never heard him talk down to anyone.

I think that depends on the pastor. For many the only real choice is to terminate their position.

Sad but true.
I have had the blessing of higher than average Pastor retention.
In the church I grew up in the Pastor was there for 25 years.
So, that was normal to me. With over 30 years at my current church we have seen over a dozen pastors, including interim Pastors. But they usually leave due to ministry or life changes.

This doesn't mean the Passover was replaced with the Lord's Supper, it just means that what the Passover foreshadowed the Lord's Supper illustrates - Jesus and his redemptive work. They are different in and of themselves. Yom Kippur foreshadows what the Lord's Supper illustrates, doesn't mean it replaced it.

The old Passover was replaced with the new and eternal Passover. Surely you see the reality and fulfilment of the blood of Christ replacing the shadow celebration?

Why don't most Christians keep Passover? What does each mean? I think this would reveal why most Christians don't keep Passover. I understand many have no clue why they don't.

Keeping Passover requires a lamb to be slain and eaten. Yes I understand this has been amended by tradition and change of situation. This isn't authorized in Scripture.
