Yes I know and its not so much the doctrine I was questioning but the spirit within as can be in any religion
The Spirit of God will NEVER possess you, It will never take over and make you do something that you do not know what you are doing.

I attended -and no judgement on any denominations here but attended a pentacostal church for a while often times seeing people supposedly healed , fainting and so on.

Do you read anywhere in Scripture of such events happening in the New Testament church? Nope. Not once. The only people in the New Testament who behaved anything like the modern hyper-charismatics do are those who were possessed of demons.

I do believe in the power of God and the Holy Spirit.

So do I - but not in the manner in which modern charismatics claim it is manifested. Maniacal laughing, hysterical weeping, convulsing and thrashing about on the floor - these are things common to eastern mystic religions and the demonic but unknown to the Early Church and not once taught as a feature of Christian living by any of the writers of the New Testament.

Once I went with a group to a pastor/ healers/ prophesies home for a teaching it very much creeped me out as the only method was pulling of the leg to heal then it "grows" at one point everyone started laughing hysterically at another service someone I believed to be a man of God laid back eyes shut, started shaking upon "waking" laughing again. All these things followed by comments of being filled with the Holy Spirit.

There is nothing of the Holy Spirit in this stuff. It's just what happens when Christians try to make their fellowship with God a sensual affair. They want God to be accessible to their physical senses, to appeal to their flesh, and in an effort to experience God this way, they manufacture these horrible, blasphemous practices. When I consider this sort of approach to walking with God, I recall what the apostle James wrote:

James 3:15
15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.

I at first could feel an occasional warmth throughout my body even though these places were seriously I believe intentionally cold, at the end, I was becoming every time very lightheaded and dizzy.

It's amazing how powerful group psychology can be, how potent the effect of the group upon an individual is. You aren't the first person to be induced into such a state simply by weight of the expectations and behaviour of the group of which they are a part. People in cults report the same sort of effects.

If there is a demonic dimension to this charismatic pursuit of a sensual, fleshly experience of God - and I think there is - you'd better steer well clear of it!

My question was going to be might I have let in some wrong spirits yet I know that my God will protect and sustain me! Comments?

Ask God to take back in your life any ground to the demonic you might have given by participating in these false and blasphemous attempts to make God tangible. And then carefully avoid such groups and events in the future.

None of what you saw in there was real. I've experienced those churches before. They are all fake and cult scams. Rationality, Scripture, the Church should be a christians basis for theology and understanding.

Isn't denomination called Quakers though? I remember that being said in one of the services I went to a long time ago and also on google.. unless Hyper Charismatic and Quakers are different denoms?

God has spoken to me 3 times in the ~50 years I've been alive. Each time it was the same experience. I was filled with Peace and Love and all pain and turmoil left my soul, and it lasted for a couple hours each time. God gave me very short and to the point messages each time that were important to my life. Like one time he convinced me to see a doctor about my schizophrenia (which was wise and important).

So the way I tell it's God is that it comes with the fruits of the spirit spelled out in the scriptures: Galatians 5:22-23

On the contrary, it is the mainstream church that Jesus is talking about.

In Jesus's day, it is the scribes and Pharisees along with the priesthood who were the equivalent of today's mainstream church, and it is these people that Jesus was referring to in the scripture you posted.
The start of the whole discourse makes the intended target clear.
Matt5v20For I say to you that unless your righteousness shall abound above that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall never enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

And here is what follows the scripture you posted.
28And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were astonished at His teaching. 29for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.

It looks pretty slam dunk to me!
It is these "mainstream" religious people who were doing the things your scripture lists, and both scripture and lengthy history records that it was these mainstream religious people who persecuted and killed those who received the Holy Spirit.
The setting is the Judgement. The mainstream churches do not practice what is taking place here. But the charismatic churches do.

Stay the course, pray for God's will to be in your life and read the scriptures. In time your clean, clear and simple walk with Jesus Christ of Nazareth will become a righteous one.
Blessings

I was very interested in the pentacostal movement in the 70s but after 2-3 years of trying different churches noticed that the pentacostal folks tended to look down their noses at non-pentacostals as 'less spiritual' than they. That was the end of our relationship, the fruit wasn't what I thought it could or should be. Of course there were a lot of nice folks, but it isn't the nice folks who claw their way into the hierarchy to "rule" individual churches.

We did attend a pentacostal church once at the request of friends some years later. I wanted to run for the door when the pastor's wife, apparently suddenly overcome by the Spirit, jumped onto the stage, grabbed the microphone from her husband and shouted "The Lord just told me He would raise up seven millionaires from this congregation if seven of you first learn how to give properly!" or something similar.

Yikes.

Well Shucks, I gotta say this, I just halfta
You will find NO shortage of "opinions" on doctrine from mankind friend.
I'll go a bit farther and just say "opinions of Churches" all claiming "WE just believe the BIBLE." And they say that as though their biblically disagreeing 'brother in Christ', from another "Christian" church, had been quoting the Satanic BIBLE, the whole time.

But the truth lies in the infallible Word of God. 2 Timothy tells us to correctly divide the Word and this is where many "churches" lose their way.
That sounds just like the Jews must have sounded when Jeremiah had to set them straight on "the infallible word of God." they believed in.

JER 8:8 "How can you say, 'We are wise, And the law of the LORD is with us'? But behold, the lying pen of the scribes Has made it into a lie.

You do hopefully know that "the law of the LORD" to the Jews back then, is the equivalent of "the BIBLE" to Christians today.

Find a good ole Holy Ghost filled Baptist believing, Bible preaching church and rightly divide that Word.
Wonderful counsel??? Please tell me what any Holy Ghost filled Baptist church has taught you concerning a Spirit enlightened understanding of 2 Timothy 2:15. And after I read your opinion, I'll tell you what this Holy Spirit baptized tongue talking believer was taught.

2TI 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

So, please 'unpack' this verse, and give your enlightened 'application' for our walk in Christ. I'm open to being taught 'the truth' if a Baptist church/preacher heard the Holy Spirit speak something I haven't.

You were wise indeed to get out of that church, as all that you described was not of the Holy Spirit, but either satan or else good ole human emotionalism!

Actually, it fits much better into wof and name it and claim it heresy groups, as they claim to be speaking for Jesus under the power of the Holy Spirit, and yet much of their fruit from doctrines and deeds are rotten !

Oh boy, Lol Ok let's take our time here. First Jesus Christ DBR fulfilled all the law and prophets and they apostles were filled with signs and wonders to show Jesus to the early church. Do you know why? It was because 1 Cor 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
The gifts transitioned to all the apostles until the gospel was preached. What gospel? The apostle Paul's gospel 1 Cor 15:1-4 that we gentiles could be saved by Eph 2:8-9 [His grace by our faith]

We now have the very Word of God in the form of the bible, We do not need signs and wonders.

If this is in affect today friend, Why aren't you guys at children's hospital healing the sick???
Why do you have to attend schools to speak foreign languages?
Why not just pack up and go overseas now???

As far as a Holy Ghost filled Baptist church lol, Don't you know that everyone who is saved is filled with the Spirit? When you get a man of God speaking the Word of God and the Spirit fills Him, The Spirit will spill over and He will preach legibly the Word of God to the people. It will not be some mumbo jumbo but the all powerful and living Divine Word of God.
Old time preachers that were men of God have more Spirit in their pinky finger than do most new church ministers because they had to study the Word to get their answers, They used their bibles and didn't have pre canned sermons that were slapped together haphazardly.

Hope this helps. Blessings

I think that when someone like a John macarthur speaks with the authority of the inspired scriptures, that is FAR more the sure word of the Lord to us today than ANY word of prophecy so called!

Yes I get it boy did we see some craziness but as a Child of God who only spent a year in that place I seriously need to pray for folk yet as my lightheadedness has only increased since leaving more than a tragic and yes I have been to many drs this morning I wonder maybe just maybe I need a good ole fashioned Jesus cleansing of whatever doors I may have opened its hard to because I don't want to criticize others but sometimes it's good to point out God's word and the errors we all sometimes make in our interpretation.
I think that it's good to ask these kinds of questions. My husband has taken me to a number of these churches over the years. Something about those phenomena never sat right with me, either. Like "what does this have to do with Christ?" I kept and still keep a skeptical, safe distance from things like this. I'll visit, but not join in.

There is many things mixed here, for instance, if being charismatic or pentecostal, is believing in the filling of the Holy spirit, and there is gifts today, then that is ok and nothing wrong.

But then you have weird manifestations and other stuff in some 'churches', and false ministers, you are going o drag all pentecostal churches to the same level?, and say like John macarthur that everything that goes on them is probably satanic, and that all pentecostal churches are bad?

No, there are true and good ones, i received the Holy spirit in one, all my experiences with God were 'under control of me' i never lost control. If i was filled with the Holy spirit in one, so they must be doing something correctly, God is not going to support one church with his Holy spirit if not.

Those 'churches' are giving pentecostals a bad name, trying to make up what God does themselves, if you don't have something from God you can't fabricate it, or much worse you can counterfeit it, just moderate yourself and don't be a false minister trying to minister something you don't have and repent.

Actually it didn’t help at all. I kinda feel sorry for you, that you think it did.

And then you totally ignored your chance to actually prove if your ‘more correct’ understanding of 2Tim 2:15 could ‘head to head’ trump mine. Now we’re all just left to assume why you didn’t even try.

Not everyone who was saved is filled with the Holy spirit, like in the bible, it needs to happen, and if you continue in sin you loose it, it can be a test if you are keeping Jesus commandments, if you keep the filling you do well. Stop with this that every christian is filled with the Holy spirit, it happens like in the bible.

The Big problem is that the "good" charismatics/Pentecostals do not really make a concerted public effort to have those heretical groups such as the Wof and the health and wealth Gospel churches be exposed as the frauds they are, and their false teachers and leaders been shown as being false Apostles of Christ, as Paul warned us about!
