That must be the hardest job in the world.

Just in case anyone is keen on resurrecting the corpse of this thread, I am currently dating a feminist who is a working actress. I have my own opinions.
There have been some interesting exchanges here, but I suspect I could provide a unique perspective if anyone has any questions about this incongruity...?

I'd describe both my partner and I as feminists, as well as pretty much all of the women that I know. I have a unique perspective of feminism, and I don't see it as incompatible with Christianity at all. In fact, I see it as fundamentally Christian idea.

noun: feminism
the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.

Is there someone who thinks that women are less of a person than men in God's eyes? To believe that they are equal in God's eyes is to support feminism. However, to be equal does not mean that we are not assigned different roles in the family or in the church.

I believe the virtue of feminism, i.e. achieving equality for women, has really been accomplished in today's politically correct culture. But there are factions of feminism that push further because there's an agenda, however narrowly represented, to subdue and subjugate men. Perhaps as some kind of retaliation for the oppression and marginalization women felt in the past.

What are you thoughts on this? Can a girl (or guy for that matter) be both Christian and feminist? Would you get involved in a relationship with someone who identifies this way, why or why not, etc.
They can be both Christian and ten thousand other things, but not accurately or for long.

Online searches reveal that 'femin-ism' started and continued as rebellion against God.

Jeff - sometimes I really wonder about your research techniques

Well, then, there is 'Christianity of the world' vs Biblical Christianity.
So people may or may not often reconcile unBiblical ideas, lives and doctrines relatively easily with worldly Christianity,
but not with the Bible, as seen by simply reading the Bible and believing it is truth.
As long as there are enough people believing in various ways, they may see no need to turn to Yahweh in line with what the Bible says.

I think it's important to first establish what exactly Feminism is, to avoid any grey areas:

1: the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes
2: organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests

Feminism to me is a secular movement, not based on Scripture or Christian values. It's a purely secular ideology, which I don't see God being involved in whatsoever. I see it as having a spirit of pride and rebellion at it's core, and lately have noticed almost a resentment of men because of it. In some cases blatant resentment.

However, I do believe that women should be treated with respect and honor - not because I'm a Feminist (which I'm not), but rather because I'm Christian who holds to old fashioned values. I also fear God, and know I will be held accountable for my actions, as will everyone else. God commands us to treat other people in general with unconditional love and respect:

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves," -Philippians 2:3
"Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves." -Romans 12:10
"Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor." -1 Peter 2:17
"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." -Matthew 7:12

Both men and women should be treated with love, honor and respect, which I'm sure would end a lot of the problems we face today. I also believe God gave both different roles and authority, as well as strengths and weaknesses, but equal worth. As an analogy: an architect (gifted with creativity and attention to detail) can't do the job of an engineer, and an engineer (gifted with intelligence and love of calculation) can't do the job of an architect, yet both are important and necessary for the construction of a skyscraper. However, one role shouldn't try to become the other because of inequality - this would wreck havoc on a project. But rather, the value of both roles should be addressed, which would deal with the heart of the issue.

If there is still inequality going on, it should be fully addressed and we should move on from it; Feminism lately has been gaining power, and is now becoming weaponized. Also, I think it would be better suited for Christians to start a new movement to address inequality, bases solely on Scripture and Christian values (i.e. the fear of God and on 1 Peter 2:17).

Right back at you. Everyone thinks they follow Biblical Christianity.
