Is it correct to say, "One aspect of the Bible is that it is like a rule book"?

That's right -- I get what you are saying to say they are all the same.

Americans generally will have different reactions to the 3 different words 'rule', 'law', and 'command', because our American use of the words have American 'connotations' -- "an idea or feeling that a word invokes in addition to its literal or primary meaning".

I imagine it is possible. I really would have no way of knowing unless I conducted a study or questionnaire among my fellow Americans.

Sorry for not making that more clear my first response.

It's all good.

May God bless you.

Are you asking this question from the perspective that God's Word is yours to claim or not yours to claim ?

I don't believe in the Word of faith movement if that is what you mean. I don't think you can declare things and it is just yours. We do have to obey God's Word, though. God communicated to us by His Word. It's like a love letter with instructions on how to have a right relationship with the Author (GOD). God created His Word, but He has communicated His Word for us to obey.

Wouldn't it be more accurate to say, "That it's a Book of authoritative instructions from God" on how to best live one's life. Isn't that why other authoritative instructional books are often called a "Bible".

While I am comfortable in using the term I came up with, I would agree with you that your statement is more clear.

I don't know anything about the word of Faith movement. I just think your premise or perspective might be wrong.

Rom. 8:9 tells us in a foundational " rule" let's say, that if someone doesn't have the Spirit of Christ in them, They are none of His . So by that declaration by Christ, if we don't have the Spirit of Christ in us, then Christ is not ours, meaning His word is not ours, and the promises in His word are not ours yet either .

So that's why I'm asking what perspective your asking this question from. If your claiming God's word as yours, could you share how this was done? In a few sentences.

I don't know anything about the word of Faith movement.

Please check out the following articles below.

Is the Word of Faith movement biblical?
(Please take note I do not always agree with Got-questions; I agree with them in this particular article).

How do you abide in the Holy Spirit?

"And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him." (Acts of the Apostles 5:32).

How do you abide in Christ and the Father?

John 14:23 says,
"Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him."

How can you have assurance in knowing God?

"And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments." (1 John 2:3).

What if somebody is not keeping His commandments and they are claiming to know God?

"He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." (1 John 2:4).

So that's why I'm asking what perspective your asking this question from. If your claiming God's word as yours, could you share how this was done? In a few sentences.

I have no idea what you are talking about when you say "if your claiming God's word as yours." That statement does not make any sense unless you are a part of the Word of Faith movement.

Well, I believe we are in the last days, and not many are truly following Jesus like they should (according to His Word). I believe the following words of Jesus are prophetic of the day we are living in now; For Jesus says: "when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8).

I do not see present forms of churches today as gathering biblically (of which I provide a link in my statement of faith to explain this). I prefer to have fellowship with Christians in homes who are truly serious in following the Lord Jesus Christ and in obeying Him according to what His Word says (Which is what we see in the Bible).

To see my lengthy statement of faith at any time, you can:

1. Click on my Profile Name: ("Jason0047").
2. Click on "Profile Page."
3. Click on "Information."
4. Look in the "About" section.
5. Click on the link that says: "What is Your Statement of Faith?"

I continued the statement of faith on page 6 of the thread (if you are interested), as well.

Side Note:

While I am not into traditional church gathering, I would like to attend in the future a Bible house fellowship meet up with one of the two holiness churches below.

  1. Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church: Christ's Sanctified Holy Church-Holiness unto the Lord
  2. International Fellowship of Bible Churches International Fellowship of Bible Churches

These churches appear to be genuine at first glance, but I have not investigated them first hand. Please keep in mind that there are not many true genuine holiness churches out there these days (besides the two here that I have found). Narrow is the way that leads unto life (indeed). For as it was in the times of Noah, so shall it also be at the coming of the Son of Man (i.e. the Rapture and his eventual second Coming).

This is as I expected. You're one of those AW Pink kinds of Christians who has such an exalted view of his own Christian life that he cannot lower himself to fellowship with other believers. That's you in your avatar. Standing alone on the mountain, right? And you're signature. Don't you know that Jesus spoke those words to the community and not to the individual. It's you (plural) who is the city on a hill. How can one man be a city on a hill?

You need to humble yourself, brother, and repent of your sin and join a flesh and blood, imperfect fellowship of believers. This will go a long way in helping you get balanced in your theology.

I really have no desire to know about any movement, other than my own movement or desire to know Christ better . But that's for taking the time to try and educate me on that .
It sounds as if your under the impression you can receive the Spirit of Christ by being"obedient " ? Would that be sccuraac ?

"for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." (Philippians 2:13)

This is in the Bible. Possibly, this is a rule that the only things we can do which please God are things He works in our wills to get us to will to do.

So, may be this is a rule.

Show me the Christians that exist in the Bible today. You will not find too many of them. You may have tricked yourself that your church is the early body of believers you see in the Bible, but if you were to be honest with yourself, and write down and compare what you see in real life vs. what you see in the New Testament, it would be like comparing night vs. day. The early Christian's life and sacrifice and beliefs pale by comparison to the modern churches of today (let alone churches that are of the cold Calvinistic persuasion). Also, I do fellowship with other believers on rare occasion. So you do not know my life.

But I would say that one of the most important things for a believer to understand is that the Bible is a Rule Book.
THE most important thing is that the word testifies of HIM And what HE has done for mankind. This is what He tells you if you believe it is a rule book for your salvation........
John 5~~39“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; 40 and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.

Acts 16:31~~Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved..."

Keeping in mind of course, that the word " believe" is a mistranslation . And anyone who is just believing in God's word and that they will receive the promises in His word, will never receive the Spirit of Christ .

Believe is not a mistranslation. Religion just tries to redefine it.

We are specifically told to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ(His person and work for us) and we shall be saved. It isn't until we are saved and have the Spirit(and are in fellowship with Him) that we can discern the remaining 99.9999999% of His word.

Don't want to derail the thread, but you couldn't be more wrong. I'll be addressing this very topic in detail after Christmas . So I'll be looking forward to seeyour understanding put on the table to be tested .

What's the difference? One emphasizes "you will lose salvation" and the other emphasizes "you were not really saved." Cold as hell on all front's.

Find a church or a teacher that teaches HIS GRACE, and you will then start to see people who look like those in the Bible. And better yet........You will have grace and mercy for those believers who don't look the way you think they should.

Well, I can't wait for your wrong interpretation. And being able to show it "on the table."

Oh , I won't be giving any interpretationns. Just the Greek word used by the NT writers, and the Greek scholars correct definitions out if the Greek dictionarys.

I will be open to discussing how those facts are applied correctly in the Salvation process.

The only real requirement is having the ability to be honest with yourself .

Yes it is correct to say that. But the problem you will run into with it is that too many people will overlook the "one aspect" in your statement.

It is written to reveal the nature of God. We have a nature and God has a nature. He just wants us to know His nature so that we can live the life of righteousness through His Son Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
