  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

Psalm 8

1 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory
in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

5 You have made them a little lower than the angels"
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

9 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

I would have loved to have seen your live stream but I had to travel to another town for a doctor's appointment. Let us know when the next live stream is because I'd like to learn more art tricks from you. :)
I plan to do another continuing the last pretty soon today. :) I'll post when it's about time. Hopefully nothing weird will happen this time. :p

I finally deleted my dna from Promethease. Genetics is fascinating, and I don't regret regret reading all those scholarly journal articles, but there's more to who we are than SNPs!

Edit - whoops, nvm, that seemed rude, wasn't intended to be
Now I'm curious what you wrote. lol

Long story short, I tried 23andme and scanned the raw data for more info. It was interesting, and inspired me to read about some of the original research. Some of it was consistent with what I'm actually like, but a lot of it wasn't. The science of how genetics influences personality traits, for instance, appears to be in its infancy. The field is rife with conflicting studies and weak associations. It's all about how they work together as a system, and that system isn't as well understood as one might imagine.

For now, I'll focus on the ancestry side.

Haha, I was just writing that I've had bad results with dna analysis sites. I sent away for an Ancestry dna kit and when I recieved the results I was pretty satisfied and I felt it added a different aspect to myself that was cool. But then in September they did a major update to everyone's dna because they recieved a lot of new data about dna from all the samples they collected. And the update changed a lot of people's results in major ways, and while mine wasn't overly dramatic I still didn't like the fact that it could change like that. It basically kept the top 2 the same roughly but then completely got rid of some of the minor ones and added new minor ones. And while they said such thing could happen... you didn't really expect things that have 3-6% to disappear completely.
I edited because I know you put effort into it all so my response just seemed kind of negative aha.

Wow ... That was quite possibly the heaviest day I had ever had to work at Albemarle, not just in the three months that have passed since I was hired back, but, in the full year I was there in 2008. They sure got their 18.83 an hour's worth out of me today. If I hear any complaints when I come back Saturday night about the work I had no choice but to leave behind for the next person on top of everything I managed to get done, I will burn down that laboratory until only the gas chromatography instruments and my radio with the phone still attached and playing SK's personal brand of music remain standing.

(Don't worry, not really mad. Just said that last part about burning down the house if I get hassled despite my having worked so hard with a grain of salt. ^-^ )

Mine did that, too! It completely got rid of my German results and instead said I was a blasted 68% British. What?! No. It also took my French all the way down to 1%. I’m mostly French and German. Lol

It also said in my original results that I had no Scandinavian and now I’m a whole 5% Norwegian. Lol

I’m going with 23andMe next. I think they’re a bit more accurate.

I’ve been pretty skeptical about the accuracy already but it is interesting to hear you guys experiences.
That’s crazy that if you are mostly French and German that it’s only 1% in your results. I would be so annoyed if it says im 1% what I know im 25%.
The test is supposed to show a only a few generations back so I’m a little curious about it though I’ve just been doing geneology research the regular way.
If it is accurate I should have a good idea based on my own research if it matches up with what I know.
It would be cool if the dna tests were more accurate though.
