I have to disagree....because the Gentiles were not chosen to keep the law...which by default makes it their tutor as well....all are included under sin
GAL.3:24-25 = 24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

It is a fact that Gentiles do not keep the Law and do not live under the Law. Most Gentiles are not aware of some of their sins or of being sinners or of being under sin.(ROMANS.7:7 = On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law.)
....... Gentiles are usually brought to Christ for salvation not by the tutor/Law, eg by the miracles of healing or exorcism, by seeking a spiritual cure for their life problems/mental problems/drug addiction, by promises of prosperity, by peer pressure, etc.

GAL.3:24-25 = 24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

Problem is, the Law was never the tutor that brought Gentiles to Christ because Gentiles did not live under the Law. Only Jews kept the Law and lived under the Law. The Law was the tutor that brought Jews to Christ for salvation, not Gentiles. Once saved from hell or coming to faith, the Jewish Christians are no longer under the Law for salvation.
....... Old Testament figures like Moses, Elijah and beggar Lazarus were saved from hell while they were still under the Law - LUKE.16:19-31(Deut.15:11), MATTHEW.17:3 & 27:52, 1PETER.3:19 & 4:6.
....... Jewish Christians being no longer under a tutor/Law for salvation does not mean that the Law has been destroyed or abolished or discarded or ignored or done away with because salvation is for the afterlife. Until salvation comes(= resurrected/raptured), in this life on earth, they still have to live under the Law. Hence, 1CORINTHIANS.5: says ...

Immorality Must Be Judged
9 I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. 10 Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. 11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person.

12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? 13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.”

Hence, it is quite easy for the non-Law-tutored Gentile Christians to be led astray into lawlessness, sins/evilness, back-sliding and departing from the faith.

P S - Even US Christians have to live under US Law, on top of having to live under God's Law.

"When you sin against them in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ."

I quoted that to say why can't the person rather sin against a spiritual law...as
Against Christ?

God's WORD teaches..

COLOSIANS 2:6 [6], As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk you in him

We have received him by faith right? We walk in him by BELIEVING and FOLLOWING his WORD by Faith. We need to be born again not to sin and to have a new heart to LOVE (1 John 3:9) Whatever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith (1 John 5:4). Those who ABIDE in Christ by FAITH do not brake God's LAW and those who sin [break God's LAW] do not know him (1 John 3:6). It is not God's will that after we come to him that we sin [break God's Commandments] but if we do we have an advocate with the father (1 John 2:1)

Hope this helps brother
You said.
Those who ABIDE in Christ by FAITH do not brake God's LAW and those who sin [break God's LAW] do not know him (1 John 3:6).
Are you saying that you do not sin?

Are you saying that you obey the law?

When I wrote: thought that.. but to establish the Law may mean if it has done its purpose which was meant to bring us to Christ. Has it brought you to Christ? Did it meet up to its purpose?

Hi corinth, are you talking about "ESTABLISHING THE LAW" in Romans 3:31?

May I ask that you take the time to read this post carefully brother corinth? It will not take too long and you will get a blessing if you prayerfully consider the scriptures provided :crossrc:.

Ok let's look at the scriptures in some detail...

ROMANS 3:31 [31], 31, Do we then make void the law through faith? GOD FORBID: YES, WE ESTABLISH [GREEK ἵστημι means to set and fix firmly or; to settle permanently.] THE LAW.

It is very clear if you look at the surrounding scriptures and chapters that it is talking about God's 10 commandments are ESTABLISHED [GREEK ἵστημι means to set and fix firmly or; to settle permanently.] in the life of the believer by faith in God's WORD.

Links to...

ROMANS 13:8-10 [8] Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loves another has FULFILLED [GREEK πληρόω means to execute or to do, to complete or to saftisfy] the law. [9], For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
[10], Love works no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the FULFILLING [GREEK πλήρωμα means to complete or to do] of the law.

Both scriptures above are talking about establishing the 10 Commandments by faith that works by LOVE. Both sets of scriptures say that OBEDIENCE to God's LAW (10 Commandmetns) is the fruit of faith that is establshed in the heart of the believer through faith.

links to..

1 THESSALONIANS 3:13 [13], To the end he may ESTABLISH YOUR HEARTS UNBLAMABLE IN HOLINESS before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

All the above link to the new covenant promise...

HEBREWS 8:10 [10], For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MIND, AND WRITE THEM IN THEIR HEART: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.

this is the new covenant promise to love with a new heart and to fulffill or establsih God's 10 commandments in the life of those who believe and follow God's WORD.

DEUTERONOMY 30:6 [6] And the LORD your God will CIRCUMCISE YOUR HEART AND THE HEART OF YOUR DESCENDENTS TO LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL OF YOUR HEART [This links to the FIRST GREAT COMMANDMENT OF LOVE], and with all your soul, that you may live.

Yep this is the new covenant propmise of God's 10 Commandments being written by faith that works by LOVE to fulfill God's LAW. ROMANS 3:31 means God's LAW is ESTABLISHED in the heart and life of the BELIEVER. It does not do away with them. God's 10 commandments still give a knowledge of sin if broken and are obeyed [ESTABLISHED] by faith that works by LOVE.

What law does it establish WHEN BROUGHT TO faith in Christ, but the Law of Love...
I use to think the law of Moses....

Brother corinth you are right and wrong here. It is actually BOTH LOVE AND GOD'S 10 COMMANDMENTS.This is why Jesus says; ON THESE TWO COMMANDMENTS OF LOVE TO GOD AND MAN HANG ALL THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS. They are both connected together as shown in the scriptures above. This is what Jesus is talking about in Matthew when he is quoting from Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18.

MATTHEW 22:36-40
[36], Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?
[37], Jesus said unto him, YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND WITH ALL YOUR SOULD AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND .

[38], This is the first and great commandment.
[39], And the second is like unto it, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORE AS YOURSELF.
[40], ON THESE TWO COMMANDMENTS HANG ALL THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS.

So Jesus is saying here that God's LAW is written on the heart through LOVE both are linked together "ON THESE TWO COMMANDMENTS OF LOVE HANG ALL THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS. Let's look at what Paul is saying again...

ROMANS 13:8-10
[8] Owe no man anything, but to love one another: FOR HE THAT LOVES ANOTHER has FULFILLED THE LAW.

[9], For this, YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, YUO SHALL NOT KILL, YOU SHALL NOT STEAL, YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, YOU SHALL NOT COVET ; and if there be any other commandment, IT IS SUMMED UP in this saying, namely, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORE AS YOURSELF.
[10], Love works no ill to his neighbor: therefore LOVE IS THE FULFILLING [doing] OF THE LAW.

Paul is using the example of the 2nd great commandment of LOVE to show that LOVE results in OBEDIENCE to COMMANDMENTS 5-10 of the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20:12-17). James says something similar...

JAMES 2:8-12
[8], If you fulfill the ROYAL LAW according to the scripture, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORE AS YOURSELF YOU DO WELL:

[9], But if you have respect to persons, you commit sin, and are convicted of the law as transgressors.
[10], FOR WHSOEVER SHALL KEEP THE WHOLE LAW, AND YET OFFENDS IN ONE POINT HE IS GUILTY OF ALL.

11], For he that said, DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, said also, DO NOT KILL. Now if you commit NO ADULTERY, yet YOU KILL, YOU ARE BECOME A TRANSGRESSOR OF GOD'S LAW.

.................

CONCLUSION: LOVE is written on the heart by FAITH in God's WORD this is the NEW COVENANT PROMISE. Jesus says ON THESE TWO GREAT COMMANDMENTS [OF LOVE to GOD AND LOVE to MAN] HANG ALL THE LAW and the prophets (Matthew 22:36-40). LOVE IS THE ESTABLISHMENT of God's LAW through faith (Romans 3:31). This is the NEW COVENANT promise (Hebrews 8:10-12)

Hope this shows the scriptures better corinth. So what is written in the heart by FAITH is LOVE and LOVE is the FULFILLINF of God's LAW resulting in the FRUIT of OBEDIENCE to God's LAW through faith in God's WORD.

Can you see now what Jesus, James and Paul are all saying? LOVE ESTABLISHES God's LAW it does not abolish it.

May God bless you as you seek him through his Word :wave:

I believe the Gentiles knew they were without the law.....
And therefore by that knowledge the law still was a tutor for them....all were accounted under sin those with and those who were without
Not true.

ROMANS.2: = 5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: 7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; 8 but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath, 9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; 10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 11 For there is no partiality with God.

12 For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law
13 (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; 14 for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, 15 who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them)
16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.

ROMANS.11: = Israel’s Rejection Not Final
11 I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles. 12 Now if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness!

13 For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, 14 if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and save some of them. 15 For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?

16 For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches. 17 And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, 18 do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.

19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.” 20 Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. 22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off. 23 And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. 24 For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved, ...

Hi Steve, sorry God's Word disagrees with you and does not teach lawlessness. Good luck trying to say that to God come judgment day. Those who continue in KNOWN UNREPENTANT SIN do not enter into God's KINGDOM. ....
Not being under the law does not make one lawless. We have been set free from a yoke of bondage to the law. The Apostle Peter said it best in Acts chapter fifteen.

Acts 15:10-11
Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? 11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Apostle Paul explained how we have been set free from the prison of the law.
Galatians 3:23-25
Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. 24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. 25 Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.
Seems you do not understand the covenants and what the OLD and NEW COVENANT are. Or what is the difference between God's eternal law that gives us a knowledge of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTOUESNESS (Romans 3:20; 7:7; James 2:10-11; Psalms 119:172).
...............
2 Corinthians 3:6-11 is talking about the change of covenants (OLD TO NEW) and the ministration from the letter to the Spirit of LOVE. It is not saying God's 10 commandments are abolished the are fulfilled and established under the NEW COVENANT through LOVE (Romans 3:31; Romans 13:8-10).
The 10 commandments in the OLD COVENANT was written on two tables of stone (Deuteronomy 4:13) but in the NEW COVENANT they are written on the heart through LOVE by walking in the Spirit (Hebrews 8:10-12; Romans 3:31; Romans 13:8-10; James 2:8-12; James 2:18-20). …
Wrong, wrong, and wrong.
This scripture (God's word) is comparing two ministries.
1) The new covenant, and
2) The Ten Commandments (which was engraved in letters on stone)
The Ten Commandments are said to be the transitory ministry that brought death, which has no glory now. The ministry that brought condemnation, because the letter of the law kills.
In contrast, the more glorious ministry of the new covenant of the Spirit brings life. It is in this ministry that he has made us competent. But what are you up to?
2 Corinthians 3:6-11
He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—
not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
7 Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone,
came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily
at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was,
8 will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious?
9 If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious,
how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!
10 For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory.
11 And if what was transitory came with glory,
how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!
Not being under the law does not make one lawless. We have been set free from a yoke of bondage to the law. The Apostle Peter said it best in Acts chapter fifteen.
Acts 15:10-11
Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? 11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”
No one is under the law if they have come to Christ and repented and confessed their sins at the foot of the cross and through faith accepted the gift of God's dear son.
It is only those who break God's LAW that are "UNDER THE LAW" because they stand guity before God of breaking it as it is written in Romans 3.
ROMANS 3:9-20
[9], What then? are we better than they? No, in no way: FOR WE HAVE PROVED BOTH JEW AND GREEK, THAT THEY ARE ALL UNDER SIN;
[10], As it is written, THERE IS NONE RIGHTOUESS NO NOT ONE:
[11], There is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God.
[12], They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good, no, not one.
[13[, Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
[14], Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
[15], Their feet are swift to shed blood:
[16], Destruction and misery are in their ways:
[17], And the way of peace have they not known:
[18], There is no fear of God before their eyes.
[19], NOW WE KNOW THAT WHATSOEVER THINGS THE LAW SAYS, IT SAYS TO THEM WHO ARE UNDER THE LAW; that EVERY mouth may be stopped, and ALL THE WORLD MAY BECOME GUILTY BEFORE GOD.
[20], Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN.
ROMANS 2:12-13
[12], FOR AS MANY AS HAVE SINNED WITHOUT THE LAW SHALL PERISH WITHOUT THE LAW: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
[13], For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
Why?
ROMANS 6:23 [23], FOR THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Yep this is the role of God's LAW in the NEW COVENANT. To give us a KNOWLEDGE of sin and rightouesness. (Romans 3:20; Romans 2:13; Psalms 119:172)
God's LAW (10 Commandments is the standard of the judgment for God's people. Romans 2:12 For as many as have sinned without the law shall perish without the law; WHY? Romans 6:23 because the wages of sin is death because they have not excepted the gift of God's dear son. As many as have sinned in the LAW (God's professed people) shall be judged by the LAW.
..................
Sorry Steve, ACTS 15 says no where in that chapter that God's 10 Commandments are abolished. The Chapter topic of discussion is laid out in v1
ACTS 15:1-2 [1], And certain men who came down from Judea taught the brethren, and said, EXCEPT YOU BE CIRCUMCISED AFTER THE MANNER OF MOSES, YOU CANNOT BE SAVED [2], When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and dispute with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders ABOUT THIS QUESTION.
What is the chapter topic and what question was Paul and Barnabas going to Jerusalem to settle? IF CIRCUMCISION was a requirement of slavation. You get the shadow law from the MOSAIC book of the covenant mixed up with God's ETERNAL law (10 Commandments). Circumcision is now a requirement for salvation in the NEW COVENANT which points to circumcision of the heart. Gentiles are now grafted in to God's ISREAL who are all those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD (Romans 11:16-27)
Sorry Steve, God's WORD disagrees with your teachings.
The Apostle Paul explained how we have been set free from the prison of the law.
Galatians 3:23-25
Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. 24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. 25 Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.
You misinterpret the scriptures dear friend. Let's look at the scriptures in detail...
GALATIANS 3:23-25 VERSE BY VERSE
..............
[23], But before faith came, we were kept UNDER THE LAW, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
v23, says before faith has come it says we were kept "UNDER THE LAW", shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE "UNDER THE LAW"?
ROMANS 3:19-20 [19], Now we know that WHATSOEVER THINGS THE LAW SAYS, IT SAYS TO THEM WHO ARE UNDER THE LAW: THAT EVERY MOUTH MAY BE STOPPED AND ALL THE WORLD MAY BECOME GUILTY BEFORE GOD. [20], Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN.
1 JOHN 3:4 [4], Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: FOR SIN IT THE TRANGRESSION OF THE LAW.
[ANSWER] So to be "UNDER THE LAW" in this case means to be GUILTY BEFORE GOD of breaking the LAW (sin). FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN and this is what God's LAW teaches us. That we are all sinners in need of a Saviour
..............
[24], Therefore the law was our schoolmaster [GREEK παιδαγωγός means tutor; instructor; teacher; schoolmaster] to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
v24 the GREEK word used for your versions rendition of guardian [I do not know how they get that translation]. The KJV is Schoolmaster which is a better translation to the original GREEK word used which is παιδαγωγός which means tutor; instructor; teacher; schoolmaster.
So v24 says that the LAW was our TEACHER, TUTOR, SCHOOLMASTER to bring us unto Christ that we might be justified by FAITH.
SO WE ASK THE QUESTION, WHAT DOES THE LAW TEACH US?
We touched on it earlier...
ROMANS 3:20 [20], Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN.
[ANSWER] v23 and v24 says being "UNDER THE LAW" means to be guilty before God of SIN. God's LAW is TEACHING US what SIN is. GOD'S LAW teaches us by giving us a KNOWLEDGE of what sin is. God's LAW shows us that we are all sinners in need of a Savior. THE LAW is our TEACHER, TUTOR, SCHOOLMASTER that teachers us that we are sinners it gives us a KNOWLEDGE of what SIN is and BRINGS US TO CHRIST that we might be justified by FAITH.
This is the purpose of God's LAW in the Gospel. It teacher us that we are all sinners in need of a Savior that we might be justified by Faith.
* IF there is NO LAW then we have no KNOWLEDGE of what SIN is
* IF we have no KNOWLEDGE of SIN we have no need of a Savior.
* IF we have no need of a Savior then we have no Salvation.
* If we have no Salvation then we are all lost because we are still in our sins
Either way you want to spin it God's WORD says...
ROMANS 3:12-13 [12], For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; [13], For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
So v14 God's LAW is our TEACHER that gives us a KNOWLEDGE of what SIN is and lead us to Christ that we might be justified by FAITH.
..............
[25], But after faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. [GREEK παιδαγωγός means tutor; instructor; teacher; schoolmaster]
Final section then we will tie it all together.
v25 NOW when FAITH has COME we are no longer UNDER THE LAW, TEACHER, TUTOR, SCHOOLMASTER
WHEN FAITH IS COME WHY ARE WE NO LOGER "UNDER THE LAW" TEACHER?
[ANSWER] Because the purpose of the LAW is to bring us to show us we are all sinners in need of a Savior. It brings us to Christ that we might be justified by FAITH. When we have FAITH in God's WORD we have FORGIVENESS. We are no longer GUILTY and CONDEMNED by the LAW, THE BLOOD of CHRIST Cleanses US from ALL SIN. No longer being guilty we are no longer UNDER THE LAW BEING CONDEMNED by it.
..............
CONCLUSION: Galatians 3:23-25 does not say God's LAW (10 Commandments) are ABOLISHED. The scriptures say when FAITH has come we are no longer "UNDER THE LAW" as a schoolmaster; teacher or tutor that show us our sins because we have been forgiven our sins by faith in the precious blood of Christ.
Sorry Steve God's WORD disagrees with you.
Hope this helps :wave:
Not really Steve, what is wrong? Just saying wrong, wrong wrong does not make the scriptures sent to you magically dissappear.
This scripture (God's word) is comparing two ministries. 1) The new covenant, and 2) The Ten Commandments (which was engraved in letters on stone)
2 Corinthians 3:6-11 is talking about the change of covenants (OLD TO NEW) and the ministration from the letter of the law to the Spirit of LOVE. It is not saying God's 10 commandments are abolished it is saying they are fulfilled and established under the NEW COVENANT through LOVE (Romans 3:31; Romans 13:8-10).
The 10 commandments in the OLD COVENANT was written on two tables of stone (Deuteronomy 4:13) but in the NEW COVENANT they are written on the heart through LOVE by walking in the Spirit (Hebrews 8:10-12; Romans 3:31; Romans 13:8-10; James 2:8-12; James 2:18-20)
The Ten Commandments are said to be the transitory ministry that brought death, which has no glory now. The ministry that brought condemnation, because the letter of the law kills.
Indeed this is also expressed in Galatians 3:22-25, the role of God's LAW is only to give a KNOWLEDGE of what sin. Nothing more and nothing less. It is to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith to walk in God's Spirit. Under the NEW COVENANT (ministration) Once the sinner is forgiven through faith, God's LAW is transferred from the letter of the law on stone condemning of sin and death to the fleshly tables of the heart (2 Corinthians 3:3). The NEW COVENANT is the Spirit that gives life of a new heart to LOVE and LOVE is the fulfilling of God's LAW in those who believe and follow God's WORD.
Let's look at the scriptures in detail with context shown...
2 CORINTHIANS 3:1-10
[1], Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
[2], You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
[3], Since you are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart.
[4], And such trust have we through Christ toward God:
[5], Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
[6], Who also has made us able ministers of the new covenant; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life.
[7], But if the ministry of death, written and engraved in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
[8], How shall not the ministry of the Spirit be more glorious?
[9], For if the ministry of condemnation be glory, much more does the ministry of righteousness exceed in glory.
[10], For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excels.
Now take a look at v3 highlighted in RED which is the CONTEXT or what follows.
Now take a look at the NEW COVENANT promise from Jeremiah 31:31-34 and repeated by the same same author as Corinthians in Hebrews 8:10-12 and 10:16-17
Hebrews 8:10-12
[10], For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
[11], And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
[12], For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
This is the part that is transitory as you say. 2 Corinthians 3 is talking about the OLD letter of the law showing sin and death written on stone to the NEW ministration of the Spirit of God's LAW written in the fleshly tables of the heart to LOVE and LOVE is the fulfilling of God's LAW in those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD.
The NEW COVENANT of God's LAW of LOVE written on the heart through faith. The tables of stone to the fleshly tables of the heart (2 Corinthinas 3:3; Hebrews 8:10)
Let's look at the scriptures laid out together side by side...
2 CORINTHIANS 3:3, [3], Since you are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart.
Hebrews 8:10 [10], For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.
JEREMIAH 31:33 [33], But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, said the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
EZEKIEL 36:26-32 [26], A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
links to...
2 CORINTHIANS 3:3 [3], Since you are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart.
continuing in Ezekiel 36..
[27], And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgments, and do them.
God's Spirit of love...
ROAMNS 13:8-10 [8], Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law. [9], For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. [10], Love works no ill to his neighbor: THEREFORE LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW.
God's LAW written on stone to the fleshly tables of the heart through FAITH that works by LOVE by God's Spirit (Romans 8:1-4).
.................
CONCLUSION
: 2 Cor 3 is talking about the NEW COVENANT of LOVE written on the heart to walk in God's LAW, to be OBEDIENT to follow God through LOVE. It is NOT talking about ABOLISHING God's LAW it is talking about FULFILLING God's LAW in those who BELIEVE God's WORD. This is RIGHTEOUSNESS (Salvation) by FAITH for a SINNER that BELIEVES the WORD'S of the SAVIOUR (JESUS). What is being ABOLISHED is the condemnation and the penalty of sin through FAITH in Christ by walking in the Spirit under the NEW COVENANT.
................
SIN is still the same as it has always been which is the breaking of God's Commandments (James 2:9-11; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4) Those who CONTINUE in UNREPENTANT SIN will NOT enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN (Hebrews 10:26-27).
Do the scriptures shared here worry you at all Steve?
May God help you as you seek him through his Word. :wave:
Is the SABBATH a DAY? Good question JBL, which day is it?
As you can see the Sabbath is a day.
It’s the seventh day.
It’s a day that that some esteem over other days while neglecting to love their neighbor.
This is context that Paul is teaching in Romans 14.
Now that you see that the Sabbath is a day you have the choice to do good and love people on just that day or you can do good on everyday.
Which is better?
Loving God and loving His people one day a week or everyday of the week?
any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind.neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Romans 13:8-11
Thanks for sharing JBL, I see you still have provided no scripture to show that Romans 14 is talking about God's 4th Commandment does it concern you that you are reading into the scriptures things that are not there?
If you disagree prove that this chapter is talking about the SEVENTH DAY Sabbath. It is not even the topic of conversation within the chapter which is food and fasting connected to days that men esteem over other days.
I just did.
You have closed your eyes to the context that comes from Romans 13.
It’s about loving God and loving our neighbor.
Tell us where in the New Testament does Jesus command or teach the Church to keep the Sabbath?
The scripture says Jesus broke the Sabbath (according to Moses) and declared He and His Father are working on the Sabbath.
17 But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”
18 Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God. John 5:17-18
GALATIANS 3:23-25 VERSE BY VERSE
..............
[23], But before faith came, we were kept UNDER THE LAW, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
v23, says before faith has come it says we were kept "UNDER THE LAW", shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE "UNDER THE LAW"?
It simply refers to the Jew. It is the Jew who is subject to the Law of Moses. This is well-established in the Old Testament and it is clear that Paul believes this is as well. As we will see now, you draw an incorrect conclusion about "under the Law" in Romans 3
ROMANS 3:19-20
[/URL]
[19], Now we know that WHATSOEVER THINGS THE LAW SAYS, IT SAYS TO THEM WHO ARE UNDER THE LAW: THAT EVERY MOUTH MAY BE STOPPED AND ALL THE WORLD MAY BECOME GUILTY BEFORE GOD. [20], Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN.
By ignoring context - as is your common pattern - you conclude, erroneously that all are under the Law. But the Romans 3 context context shows that, as always, it is the Jew and the Jew only whose sin is revealed by the Law:
Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the benefit of circumcision? 2 Great in every respect. First of all, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God. 3 What then? If some did not believe, their unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it? 4 May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar, as it is written,
“That You may be justified in Your words,
And prevail when You [d]are judged.”
5 But if our unrighteousness [e]demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? The God who inflicts wrath is not unrighteous, is He? (I am speaking in human terms.) 6 May it never be! For otherwise, how will God judge the world? 7 But if through my lie the truth of God abounded to His glory, why am I also still being judged as a sinner? 8 And why not say (as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), “Let us do evil that good may come”? [f]Their condemnation is just.
9 What then? [g]Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin; 10 as it is written,
“There is none righteous, not even one;
11 There is none who understands,
There is none who seeks for God;
12 All have turned aside, together they have become useless;
There is none who does good,
There is not even one.”
13 “Their throat is an open grave,
With their tongues they keep deceiving,”
“The poison of asps is under their lips”;
14 “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness”;
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood,
16 Destruction and misery are in their paths,
17 And the path of peace they have not known.”
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
19 Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; 20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for [j]through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.
Throughout this passage up to verse 9, Paul maintains a distinction between Jew and Gentile. Verses 1 to 8 focus on the Jew. And then in verse 9, Paul declares the Gentile is equally bad. And so we then have verses 11 through 18 that tell us all humanity - both Jew and Gentile - are sinful.
Now we get to verse 19 where you make an entirely unBiblical move - you forget that, based on a zillion other texts, that it is the Jew only who is under the Law! This is not debatable! So what Paul is saying is this:
We know, of course that the Law says what it says to those who are under it - the Jews. But, as I have just shown, all humanity is sinful and accountable to God
And yet you magically universalize the Law - with no justification whatsoever and in direct contradiction to this bit that Paul writes a few sentences later:
or we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,
There we have it - proof that Paul understands that only the Jew is under the Law. If Paul believed that the Law was universal, he would have to be out of his mind to pen the words immediately above.
In summary: you basically presume that the Law is universal with no justification. You appear to be using this flawed reasoning:
1. All humans are sinful
2. The Law reveals sin
3. Therefore all humans are under the law
In reality, Paul believes this:
1. All humans are sinful
2. The Law reveals sin to the Jew
You also appear to believe that the 10 live on because we need them to let us know what sin is.
But, of course, that is the role of the Spirit now.
Sorry JBL you have provided no scripture to say that Romans 14 is talking about God's 4th commandment Sabbath. Where does it say in Romans 14 that the topic of conversation is God's SEVENTH DAY SABBATH? If you have no scrpture then your simply reading things into God's WORD that are not there.
If you are quoting Romans 14 were does it say in this chapter that it is talking about God's commandments or where does it talk about God's Sabbath? Are you reading something into scripture here that it does not say?
Romans 14 is talking about eating and fasting connected to days that some men esteem over others. It is not talking about what God esteems or God's commandments. Romans 14 is not talking about God's SEVENTH DAY SABBATH Commandment and there is not one scripture in the chapter that supports what you are trying to read into the scriptures.
If you disagree prove that this chapter is talking about the SEVENTH DAY Sabbath. It is not even the topic of conversation within the chapter which is food and fasting connected to days that men esteem over other days.
You may need to re-think what your posting if you cannot prove your claims with God's WORD.
Thanks for sharing though. :wave:
It simply refers to the Jew. It is the Jew who is subject to the Law of Moses. This is well-established in the Old Testament and it is clear that Paul believes this is as well. As we will see now, you draw an incorrect conclusion about "under the Law" in Romans 3 By ignoring context - as is your common pattern - you conclude, erroneously that all are under the Law. But the Romans 3 context context shows that, as always, it is the Jew and the Jew only whose sin is revealed by the Law:
Well that cannot be true brother expos4ever.
You state above that "to be "UNDER THE LAW" simply refers to the JEW and it is the JEW who is subject to the LAW of Moses"?
Do you mean the Mosaic book of the Covenant or God's 10 commandments? Be specific now both made up the OLD COVENANT. Ok I am going to assume you mean God's 10 commandments.
So you believe that when it says :"UNDER THE LAW" in Romans 3:19 it is referring to the 10 Commandments and the scripture is only for the JEWS correct?
...................
Let's look at this statement and compare it to scripture.
Sorry brother God's WORD disagrees with you. In the NEW COVENANT Gentiles are now grafted in to God's ISRAEL (Romans 11:16-27)
There is no such thing as Jew or Greek anymore. All who believe and follow God's Word are one in Christ. Israel in the OLD COVENANT were those from the seed of Abraham. In the NEW COVENANT, if you are in Christ then you are Abrahams seed and heirs according to the promise...
EPHESIANS 2:11-13 [11], Why remember, that you being in TIME PAST Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
[12], That AT THAT TIME [in the Past] YOU WERE WITHOUT CHRIST, BEING ALIENS FROM THE COMMONWEALTH OF ISRAEL, STRANGERS FROM THE COVENANT OF PROMISE, HAVING NO HOPE, AND WITHOUT GOD IN THE WORLD: [13], BUT NOW IN CHRIST JESUS, YOU WHO WERE FAR OFF ARE MADE NEAR BY THE BLOOD OF CHRIST.
GALATIANS 3:28-29 [28], THERE IS NEITHER JEW NOR GREEK, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: FOR YOU ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS AND IF YOU BE CHRISTS, THEN YOU ARE ABRAHAM'S SEED FOR YOU ARE ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS [29], and IF YOU BE CHRISTS, THEN ARE YOU ABRAHAM'S SEED, AND HEIRS ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE.
God's true ISRAEL in the NEW COVENANT are not by name only but all those in Christ. Those of the FLESH (sinful human nature) are not Abrahams seed but those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God in Christ are God's ISRAEL
ROMANS 2:28-29 [28], FOR HE IS NOT A JEW WHICH IS ONE OUTWARDLY; NEITHER IS THAT CIRCUMCISION, WHICH IS OUTWARDS IN THE FLESH: [29], BUT HE IS A JEW WHICH IS ONE INWARDLY; and CIRCUMCISION IS OF THE HEART, IN THE SPIRIT, AND NOT IN THE LETTER; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
So nope brother UNDER THE NEW COVENANT Gentiles are now grafted in and a Jew according to God's WORD in the NEW COVENANT is those who have a new heart to LOVE and walk in the Spirit
...................
Now let's examine your CONTEXT that you have left out of your interpretation of ROMANS 3:19 only applying to OLD COVENANT JEWS, and what it really means to be "UNDER THE LAW" in this scripture context.
ROMANS 3:9-20
[9], What then? are we better than they? No, in no way: FOR WE HAVE PROVED BOTH JEW AND GREEK, THAT THEY ARE ALL UNDER SIN;
[10], As it is written, THERE IS NONE RIGHTOUESS NO NOT ONE:
[11], There is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God.
[12], They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good, no, not one.
[13[, Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
[14], Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
[15], Their feet are swift to shed blood:
[16], Destruction and misery are in their ways:
[17], And the way of peace have they not known:
[18], There is no fear of God before their eyes.
[19], NOW WE KNOW THAT WHATSOEVER THINGS THE LAW SAYS, IT SAYS TO THEM WHO ARE UNDER THE LAW; that EVERY mouth may be stopped, and ALL THE WORLD MAY BECOME GUILTY BEFORE GOD.
[20], Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN.
Let's start with v9 which is the CONTEXT. This shows your interpretation of the scriptures is not a correct one brother. It cannot be applicable to just the JEWS because the CONTEXT of v19 in v9 is that BOTH JEW AND GREEK ARE ALL UNDER SIN. Paul says he proved this earlier. WHERE did he prove that BOTH JEWS and GREEKS are ALL UNDER SIN?
Let's have a look where Paul proved that both JEWS and GENTILES are all "UNDER SIN"
ROMANS 2:6-13
[6] Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
[7], To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life:
[8], But to them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
[9], Tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man that does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
[10], But glory, honor, and peace, to every man that works good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
[11], For there is no respect of persons with God.
[12], For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
[13], For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
ROMANS 3:9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no way: FOR WE HAVE PROVED BOTH JEW AND GREEK, THAT THEY ARE ALL UNDER SIN
PAUL proved this earlier in ROMANS 2:6-13. Where he shows that both JEWS AND GENTILES ARE ALL UNDER SIN and stand guilty before God of breaking his LAW.
Can you see now brother that you are the one here that is leaving out CONTEXT from ROMANS 3:19? I write this only as a help to you.
.................
Now that CONTEXT has been established in ROMANS 2:6-13 and ROMANS 3:9-20. Let's look at the scriptures and see what it means to be "UNDER THE LAW" in ROMANS 3:19.
ROMANS 3:19 [19], NOW WE KNOW THAT WHATSOEVER THINGS THE LAW SAYS, IT SAYS TO THEM WHO ARE UNDER THE LAW; that EVERY mouth may be stopped, and ALL THE WORLD MAY BECOME GUILTY BEFORE GOD.
Who does PAUL say is "UNDER THE LAW" both JEW AND GENTILE because BOTH JEW AND GENTILE are stand guilty before GOD of breaking it (Romans 2:6-13). Both JEW and GENTILES are all under SIN there is none good no not one (Romans 3:9; Romans 3:10)
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE "UNDER THE LAW"?
To be "UNDER THE LAW" in this case means to be GUILTY BEFORE GOD of breaking the LAW (sin). FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN (Romans 3:20) and this is what God's LAW teaches us. That we are all sinners in need of a Saviour
Can you see the CONTEXT you have left out and what ROMANS 3:19 means to be UNDER THE LAW? It means to stand guilty before GOD of breaking it *SIN.
...................
Your statement
above was
"when it says :"UNDER THE LAW" in Romans 3:19 it is referring to the 10 Commandments and the scripture is only for the JEWS"
Looking at the within scripture and chapter CONTEXT you have left out as shown in the supporting scriptures posted in this post shows that the statement and your interpretation of what it means to be "UNDER THE LAW" is not true and has left out CONTEXT.
All this post brother is only shared in love that it might be a help and blessing for you as you grow in the knowledge of him who loves us and washed us in his own blood that we should be called the sons of God. To him be all glory forever and ever AMEN
...................
Hope this helps brother. :wave:
Not really friend if you cannot prove your claims then we do not really have much to discuss except to agree to disagree. Why do you expect me to have to prove claims you are making in Romans 14 that you have no scripture to support what you have said? There is no scripture in Romans 14 to say it is talking about God's 4th Commandment and if there is no scripture then why say it?
Romans 14 is talking about eating and fasting connected to days that some men esteem over others. It is not talking about what God esteems or God's commandments. Romans 14 is not talking about God's SEVENTH DAY SABBATH Commandment and there is not one scripture in the chapter that supports what you are trying to read into the scriptures.
If you disagree prove that this chapter is talking about the SEVENTH DAY Sabbath because this is the claim you are making not me. It is not even the topic of conversation within the chapter which is food and fasting connected to days that men esteem over other days.
You may need to re-think what your posting if you cannot prove your claims with God's WORD. Only God's WORD is true and we should believe and follow it over the teachings and traditions of men that break the commandments of God.
Is the SABBATH a DAY? Good question JBL, which day is it?
EXODUS 20:8-11
[8], Remember the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY. <Why?> Because God made it Holy for mankind and commands us to keep it as a Holy day)
[9], Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:
[10], But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY>
[11], For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the SEVENTH DAY: wherefore the LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH, and HALLOWED IT.
The origin of God's SEVENTH DAY SABBATH commandment is from the creation week of Genesis
GENESIS 2:1-3
[1], Thus the heavens and the earth WERE FINISHED, and all the host of them.
[2], And on the SEVENTH DAY GOD ENDED HIS WORK which he had made; and HE RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made.
[3], And GOD BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY, AND SANCTIFIED IT: BECAUSE HE HAD RESTED FROM ALL HIS WORK WHICH GOD HAD CREATED AND MADE.
DEUTERONOMY 5:12 [12], Keep the SABBATH DAY [SEVENTH DAY] to sanctify it, as the LORD your God has commanded you.
NEHEMIAH 13:17 [17], Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said to them, What evil thing is this that you do, and profane the SABBATH DAY [SEVENTH DAY]?
JEREMIAH 17:21-22 [21], Thus said the LORD; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the SABBATH DAY [SEVENTH DAY], nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem; [22] Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do you any work, but hallow you the SABBATH DAY [SEVENTH DAY], as I commanded your fathers.
yep everyone in the OLD COVENANT knew God's Sabbath was a day. What about the NEW?
MATTHEW 12:8 [8] For the Son of man is Lord even of the SABBATH DAY [SEVENTH DAY]
Yep Jesus says that the Sabbath is a day so that about does it for me. What about you?
MATTHEW 12:11 [11], And he said to them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the SABBATH DAY [SEVENTH DAY], will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
MATTHEW 24:20 [20] But pray you that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the SABBATH DAY [SEVENTH DAY]
Yep Jesus is still calling the Sabbath a day even after his death.
ACT 13:44 And the next SABBATH DAY [SEVENTH DAY] came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
ACT 15:21 For Moses of old time has in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every SABBATH DAY [SEVENTH DAY].
Yep seems like Jesus, Paul and all the Apostles knew that the Sabbath day was the SEVENTH DAY of the WEEK .
Now we know that God's Sabbath is the SEVENTH DAY that God set apart as a HOLY DAY and it is God's 4th Commandment (Exodus 20:8-11) and there is SEVEN OTHER DAYS that make up a week.
Now please show the scriptures to your claim that ROMANS 14 is talking about the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH?
Where in Romans 14 does it talk about God's 4th Commandment Sabbath? If you are quoting Romans 14 were does it say in this chapter that it is talking about God's commandments or where does it talk about God's Sabbath? Are you reading something into scripture here that it does not say?
Romans 14 is talking about eating and fasting connected to days that some men esteem over others. It is not talking about what God esteems or God's commandments. Romans 14 is not talking about God's SEVENTH DAY SABBATH Commandment and there is not one scripture in the chapter that supports what you are trying to read into the scriptures.
If you disagree prove that this chapter is talking about the SEVENTH DAY Sabbath. It is not even the topic of conversation within the chapter which is food and fasting connected to days that men esteem over other days.
The Context of ROMANS 13:8-12 is that LOVE is summed up in the EXPRESSION of OBEDIENCE to God's LAW (10 Commandments) v8;10 Paul in Romans 13:8-12 is focusing on the 2nd great commandment of LOVE to our neigbore v10 and says that the 2nd great commandment of LOVE do our neighbore is fulfilled in OBEDIENCE to God's LAW (10 Commandments) v9 concluding that LOVE to our neighbore is summed up in OBEDIENCE/fulfilling or doing God's Commandments [Exodus 20:12-17 or commandments 5-10 the last 6 of the 10 Commandments).
Now Paul's focus here is on the 2nd great commandment of LOVE to our neighbore. There are two great Commandments from Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18 that Jesus talks about in Matthew 22:36-40 and says that LOVE sums up all of God's LAW in these two great commandments of LOVE. Now your not suggesting are you JBL that because the first 4 Commandments are which sum up our duty of LOVE to GOD are not being discussed in Romans 13:8-12 which is talking about our duty of LOVE to our neughbore that we are now free to break the first 4 Commandments of the 10 Commandments that show our duty of LOVE to God are you?
Only God's WORD is true and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW it over the teachings and traditions of men that break the commandments of God.
Hope this is helpful :wave:
Everyday in our world that one cast their cares upon Christ, is the meaning of the shadow of the Sabbath. Why because we enter His rest. We have Eternal life....it is a everyday thing that we do to cast our cares upon Christ....When you do that you cease from trying to fix things yourself.
His rest is deliverence [salvation]
