Should Christians Watch TV?

Perhaps they send different things in different countries too. Here we saw nature documentaries of how different animals lived in nature and learned how flowers and trees and grass grew and why perennials did not die in winter although it was two or three feet snow on the top and very cold. As an adult I rarely watch television but I look things up on the net and if You ever take a stage fencing class in real life You might find it very fun and not as ghastly as on tv. But I do not like nudity either and last Batman Superman movies for example has gone way too violent for many kids. So it should not be rated as 12 years but in cathegory 15-16. I believe many kids has gotten dulled to violence through videogames that they play themselves.... they play like this then I shot Him and He died Hahaha... it is fun for them, and the videogame goes on again and again without reality. Real emotions gets somehow twisted.

I believe age limits are there for a reason, a kid might think it is not real but still it affects their behaviour. If my 9 year old son shoots His nerf gun toy bullets by mistake from an armlength into my hand He apologize and gets a bit sad but If He would see say wonderwoman or Batman Superman ( the last very violent two movies) with real people that has so much war or violence going on that an adult has barely no time to explain how the movie is made, then He might Himself get more violent and unfortunatedly end up in trouble because kids play like their heroes and for example put up empty plastic bottles on a row and shoot them down with a toygun through a corridor in the house and wrestle or hit with their siblings or mates in school at times and end up being disciplined in different ways. I do not think it is good to let them know all too many ways to hurt another human being. When they are mature enough they can learn to fight and defend themselves and others properly with a good and skilled instructor. Then they might be more interested in watching different moves too on the screen but girls and boys are not genderboxed anymore. I fall asleep in a warmovie, usually. But the movie Rocky I found interesting and far less violent than the latest Batman Superman movies.

Growing up on Andy Griffith and the Wonderful World of Disney made me an american but not a follower of Jesus Christ . The nudity in many Movies is linked to sexuality and a kid should not be introduced to the adult sexual world too soon. On the other hand in many swimming " tropical paradise" hotels in nordic countries at least kids of both sexes up to the age of 11 can follow the parent in the showerrooms, sauna and dressingroom and should not go alone and get lost. At least a sign says so. No sexual things happen there of course, adult women take their kids to womens room and adult men take their kids to their room and usually parents ask their kids if they are shy somehow and then bring another adult say a woman with so they can go to girls room if they are 8-11 aged shy girls and don't want to go to mens room or boys that don't want to go with mom to the ladies room but it happens.

Answering this I woulds say that also the "world" outside the church, is thinking about war, the last final war, the devil and aliens or Superhumans or demons infiltrating the earth getting rid of people, warring against humankind, then people try to defend themselves by all kinds of ways. ( Wonderwoman, Superman, Dawn of Justice, Justiceleague) Some movies take up the theme of peoples greed is so much bigger than their love to their own children, (All the money in the world,) although I have not seen that one, Also some of the movies have picked up on this if You look closely and deeply. When is it important to stay together as a group with Your friends or go on solo as a singer ( Pitch Perpect). Time to do things, well some people do not want prayer as a christmaspresent but they like to watch a fun movie with You. And really I don't watch tv more than twice or three times a year. I usually also put on subtitles on the movies and learn another language. If I have time to watch two movies per week, that is one disney with the kids on fridays and one alone for language learning then I am ok. It can be the same one over again, I might just chose something interesting. I love Disney stories for kids too and familyfriendly stuff. But I happen to be interested in actionoriented sports. If is fun to watch it on screen too I think. Perhaps it is good to know what someone is talking about if they refer to something in the latest popular movie say Wonderwoman, if only they get the God of war killed then all wars will stop and people will all become good again as wonderwoman thought, well some people think that all our evil thoughts come from the devil. We can actually plan evil ourselves too, I think. We have been given a will of our own.

Well I can't help but wonder how would Jesus and His apostles be spending their time if they were here right now. Being very poor ( as they were in ancient Galilee ) clearly movies and other forms of entertainment as such would have been out of the question. But this begs a deeper question . At some point Jesus is going to return or I am going to die . No time left just an accounting of what did I do with the salvation He gave me and the mercy and love He demonstrated . What did I do with it . If there be no Resurrection then let us eat , drink and be merry for tomorrow we die . Most people want fun ..Life , Liberty and the pursuit of happiness but for Christians , we want to please the Father . We have given up ourselves so that we might bring eternal life to others . We die so that Christ may live . I believe that is the gospel according to what I read in the bible . This is the life of the early apostles . Jesus and His followers were not self -interested ..Self Interest is the way of the world I believe . It is not enough that we do no evil ( although we should not ...we must bear fruit . Not doing evil is a fig tree with no fruit ..a cloud with no storm but no life giving rain .

Perhaps the problem lies within the heart and not the legalistic thinking that most people break anyway. Some movies help us to learn good values too. But we should choose wisely and think wisely and remeber what the bible says so we can learn to answer people that see things different than we do. Bragging about our good deeds is a safety concern sometimes, so we can pray for some things in secret and some peoples problems need not be displayed for the world.

Yes I understand Your point, I also must admit that for many years I have had difficulties watching any movies at all, simply because my acting and directing brain finds all kinds of faults or stuff in the movies that I would have done different and finally I got irritated so relaxing with a fun movie was not in the scoope for me, I was judging, trying to fix any small flas as if it was my friends acting and I had to find anything that did not look correct or give it an ok and go in the end. I have now learned not to bother about it anymore. It is not my acting project, not even in my mind. But I do not feel that I disconnect with God if I watch a movie either. But I do not watch everything. Maybe I am a bit more into the movie for a while but I think I still grow and God should be near me in all I do and in all my conversations. But sure I understand I am not the center of my kids life, they have school, friends, computergames, tests, interests and soon other things to think about, I can be thankful if I can be a part of their life for some time. They believe in God and we read the bible with them and discuss life in general. I also think one can not force belief on someone so what they believe is up to them but at home I sing and play christian songs at the piano and they are getting interested too. I am no better than any other christian but try to use what I have learned. I believe the Lord will lead us right in the end because that is what I have prayed about, so thanks for Your input.

I watch TV shows and the occasional movie. See nothing contradictory with that and being a Christian.
