...But when Muslims stand strong after a terrorist attack, it makes non-Muslims hate Islam even more.

...We want compassion that means something!

I think Muslims should go out and buy some Smiths T shirts from the local record shop, shave their beard and plant a garden on their patio. Then go rent some good sci-fi movies and call themselves European!

I want a Muslim to explain why Westerners should care about Iraqis or Syrians.
Because in this modern age, globalization and the interconnectivity of different groups of people, cultures, and countries is such that what happens in one place or region in the world affects another region or country...

It is in our self interest to care what happens to Iraqis and Syrians for the same reason that a village should care how the neighboring village utilizes the lake they both share.

The trend of economics and socio-economics is such that as time progresses, we are all getting more and more connected.

And with the rise in technology, the "power" that the individual has and his ability to harm the masses increases with our technological state. So yeah, we should care.

FWIW, I am becoming more and more convinced that a "showdown" between Western and Islam mores is coming and is unavoidable.

see that's the thing though isn't it
nobody is excusing the attackers
but countering the idiotic assumption that all muslims everywhere share in all crimes.
that's just a moronic point to make.
and in countering that point we are then blamed for defending the attackers when we never do.
that's just doubling down on stupid.
so as a catholic then are you to blame for all the child molestation the church has covered up over the years?
are you to blame for every ira bombing that ever occurred?
it's an argument only those that have let hatred and fear define their lives make.
I make no excuses for Catholic pedophiles. they are as vulgar as any man who takes eight year old brides.
This man blew up little girls because he is evil and is motivated by an evil theology. Western involvement in the ME, and abusing priests have nothing to do with it. It is all on him and the theology that motivates him

Why should you or I or any other Westerner care about Iraqis or Syrians? Explain that, when we live here?
Seriously?

Pastoral reflection on the Good Samaritan

The message is CLEAR: there are no limits as to whom the law of love must be applied. A neighbor is not simply one who lives next door or in our town or country. A neighbor is not of geography but of the heart. In this year of mercy, one whom we come across on the road when we travel, who is need of money, food and clothing is also our neighbor in this modern time.

Well by that line of thinking why should any American care about Jesus who was from the Middle East?

Wearing a t-shirt and watching sci-fi movies doesn't make you European though.

True. Assimilation needs to happen somehow though, whatever that truly entails.... Those would just be my recommendations.

Historically assimilation seems to happen most reliably by the passage of three generations.

Assuming that the new generations are brought up in the wider culture and not a subcultural enclave, of course.

Assimilation in the first generation is only partial at best, even when the immigrants sincerely love their new home and do their best to emulate the culture. When they do not (and it would be hard for them to, with the current climate of "multi-culturalism" discouraging such things) the assimilation is far less, to the point that their children often may as well be considered first generation immigrants themselves.

People who drive nails into little girls are more like the guys from the Middle East that drove nails into Jesus himself.
That is a more apt comparison.

Ok, got it, you really enjoy writing melodrama. You got a shiny gold star for it and everything. What Landon wrote was "Why should you or I or any other Westerner care about Iraqis or Syrians? Explain that, when we live here?" It's not a question most Christians, or most decent people for that matter, would ever feel the need to ask, but he did. Human is human, no matter their geographical location. Christians should care, because Christ cares. Simple.

I like to demonstrate I care by focusing on the girls torn apart by shrapnel, rather on politically correctness being the greater victim here.
After Rotherham, we can no longer assume that people do much care about girls as victims, when too many in this brave new world of ours rally behind the bigger victim being the rights of those hammering nails.

You know, posters have been hitting on that little aside while ignoring the meat of why I said it.

...I hope I made myself clear. If not, then we'll have to shift the focus back there again. Is that necessary..?

Remember the human rights concerns?
Remember the question on whose standards do we apply our 'cares'?

Why do you care about Syria? You live there?

The Messenger of Allaah, peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him, said, “The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.” [Saheeh Bukhari and Muslim]

The Messenger of Allaah said, “Support your brother whether he is an oppressor or is being oppressed.” It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, we help the one being oppressed but how do we help an oppressor?” The Prophet said, “By restraining him or preventing him from committing injustice, for that is how you support him.” [Saheeh Bukhari and Muslim]

And what is [the matter] with you that you fight not in the cause of Allah and [for] the oppressed among men, women, and children who say, "Our Lord, take us out of this city of oppressive people and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a helper?" (Surah an-Nisaa 4:75)

O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah , even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted. (Surah an-Nisaa 4:135)

Islaam is against injustice and oppression.

I don't believe you.
It seems more of a means to an end.

I just follow the standards Jesus applied when it comes to caring about other people.
