When Melania Trump recited The Lord's Prayer before a Melbourne, Florida presidential rally in February, the Internet went hog wild.

Now we know one reason why the first lady began with 'Let us pray' and 'Our Father who art in heaven' when she introduced the president that evening: She's a practicing Roman Catholic.

Her spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham confirmed that to DailyMail.com on Wednesday, hours after Pope Francis blessed a rosary for her at the Vatican.

The last Catholics to live in the White House were John F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie. Melania and her son Barron will move to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue over the summer.

Is this really news? It's common knowledge that the Trumps are a diverse family. He's Presbyterian (at least nominally,) his daughter and son-in-law are Jewish, and his wife is Catholic. It sets a good example for the First Family to be a microcosm of American religious pluralism.

I can't think of ever hearing of it before. So it's new(s) to me.

Thats nice. It would be fine to me. If she was any religion. Or had no belief in God. The bigger picture to me. Is that she's trying to set a good example. By visiting hospital s and good stuff like that.

Really? So what are the other peoples religions then? I know some of the presidents since then were various other christian denominations.

I don't think we really know in most cases...

It's almost like an unwritten rule that you have to be (or claim to be) religiously affiliated to the Christian faith one way or the other to get elected to that office. We haven't had a president in a very long time that hasn't been (or at least pretended to be).

The idea of an atheist in office is still a big turn-off to the lion's share of the population apparently...

However, with the actions of some of those folks, I would find it very hard to believe that they're actively practicing the faith they claim to be a part of.

I'd be highly shocked if the Catholic Church approves of the photoshoot that Melania did for GQ (where she's nude in one pic, and in the other, wearing a thong and pointing a gun while pretending to abscond with gold and jewels)

Not that I have any personal issue with that photoshoot :) but, I also don't claim to uphold a moral code that would clearly speak against that sort of thing lol.

I know seems so long ago now, but there was that one time we had a Muslim president, remember? ;):D
