Is seventh day keeping compulsory for Christians?
I believe anyone asking this should do the same thing the Bereans did. Look up all the relevant scriptures and their commentary on both sides of the argument and take accountability for your decision. It's a subject that's been discussed, discussed and discussed near to death. There are web pages and web pages on both sides of the issue too. So it's not as if a Christian can't make an informed decision. Is seventh day keeping compulsory for Christians?
Weren't the Jews in Berea checking that Paul was telling old testament stories accurately?I believe anyone asking this should do the same thing the Bereans did.
Is seventh day keeping compulsory for Christians?
Yes, it seems that all that is demanded of gentiles who are in communities that include converts from Judaism is to abstain from the pollutions of idols and from unchastity and from what is strangled and from blood. (Acts 15:20 RSV)All we have to do is "abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood."

The system which the Israelites lived under was the Torah, old covenant. God made that covenant with only one nation, Israel and the covenant had nothing to do with the salvation of any Israelite. It had all to do with governing a group of refugees. The promise of God was that if Israel would keep the covenant God would give them a permanent home in the land of Canaan. Over and over Israel strayed from the covenant and God in His mercy forgave them. Israel finally broke the covenant one too many times and God sent His Son to redeem all mankind not just IsraelOnly if you are an Israelite.

On the Cross Jesus ratified, with His own blood, a new covenant with all who will accept Him as Savior. This covenant is not about gaining the earthly land of Canaan. It all about our Heavenly land of Canaan. Our covenant doesn't require the keeping of days or all of the other rituals in the old covenant.
We are free to worship when our hearts feel the need. Every day, in the morning, noon, evening, and at night. I don't care what the Sabbath observers have to say about Sunday and who, in the past, used the day for their worship. It is a day that most people have off from their work and and a convenient time to gather together in corporate worship. The obligation Israel had to keep the weekly Sabbath is no longer in existence for anyone. The covenant was broken by Israel, they lost the promised land of Canaan. Salvation is, as it has always been, by faith. Again the Torah was not about salvation.
Paul wrote much about the law. In 2Cor3:7-11 he wrote that the 10 commandments were only temporary commands. Sabbath was one of those temporary commands. In Col2 He wrote that the Sabbath was a shadow and Jesus is the reality. All the Sabbath thumpers do not have ground to stand on. The overwhelming data from Scripture tell us we are not under the laws given to Israel. Are we then lawless as they like to proclaim? Ever hear of the law of love. Jesus gave Christians a new command that we love others as He loves us. That is a tall command brothers ans sisters.
Wake up, Jesus is soon going to return or you will expire waiting. Be ready.
Since Torah laws, including the Sabbath, were not for the salvation of Israel, why do those who think they must observe it try to tell us we must observe it. Are they, by observing it, somehow trying to gain the earthly land of Canaan? It is over folks, is that too hard to understand?
That was just a start and Acts 15:21 said the gentiles would learn more each week as they went to the synagogues and heard the Torah.Yes, it seems that all that is demanded of gentiles who are in communities that include converts from Judaism is to abstain from the pollutions of idols and from unchastity and from what is strangled and from blood. Some may have gone to the synagogue, many were thrown out of it and forbidden to go because they became Christians. While Jesus was still living that was what the Pharisees did.Acts 15:21 said the gentiles would learn more each week as they went to the synagogues and heard the Torah.
Thats why Peter had that vision in Acts 10 to not refer to gentiles and unclean and that they can be part of the covenant as well. Acts 15 is years after Jesus death, so it shows the new gentile converts the basics to start off with and they will learn more along the way as they grow in the faith. Some may have gone to the synagogue, many were thrown out of it and forbidden to go because they became Christians. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." When Jesus had said this, he departed and hid himself from them. Though he had done so many signs before them, yet they did not believe in him; it was that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: "Lord, who has believed our report, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" Therefore they could not believe. For Isaiah again said, "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they should see with their eyes and perceive with their heart, and turn for me to heal them." Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke of him. Nevertheless many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. John 12:36-43
Yes, it is true, every Christian learns more and grows if they have a mind do follow Jesus. Do you think that seventh day keeping comes later after one has grown for a while?it shows the new gentile converts the basics to start off with and they will learn more along the way as they grow in the faith
Nope. The New Testament changed that, although you'll find Christians who argue that it cannot be.Is seventh day keeping compulsory for Christians?
And Paul said it did not matter. Did the Bereans disagree on this subject?Weren't the Jews in Berea checking that Paul was telling old testament stories accurately?
Then sabbath keeping must not be compulsory.Yes, it seems that all that is demanded of gentiles who are in communities that include converts from Judaism is to abstain from the pollutions of idols and from unchastity and from what is strangled and from blood. (Acts 15:20 RSV)
What do you mean when you say the 10 Cs are antithetical to the written law?The Ten Commandments are just about the only part of the Law that have a true spiritual aspect antithetical to the written law. The others are mainly rituals and ceremonies, and civil and criminal laws. Thus the "commandments" stand apart from the 'judgments and statutes'.
Then this NC is not exclusive to Israel.Thats why Peter had that vision in Acts 10 to not refer to gentiles and unclean and that they can be part of the covenant as well. Acts 15 is years after Jesus death, so it shows the new gentile converts the basics to start off with and they will learn more along the way as they grow in the faith.
For the Christian? No.Yes, it is true, every Christian learns more and grows if they have a mind do follow Jesus. Do you think that seventh day keeping comes later after one has grown for a while?
