To those who are asking for the basis- no he didnt give proof, which is why I am asking here if there has been anybody else who has come across this. He is also saying that they did alter verses of the Bible, translations of eternal souls and hell that is different than what the original context and meaning of the words were. Would this be under different denominations or something to that effect?
It sounds like the person could be promoting the doctrine of "soul sleep", which is found among Jehovah's Witnesses and some others.
They teach that the souls of dead Christians do not go to heaven.
They believe we are only made up of a body.
They say that the word "soul" refers to the body.
In doing this they must ignore the following verse.
Mat_10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
All false doctrines are revealed not by the scripture quoted by its proponents, but rather by the scripture they must ignore to make it work. Matthew 10:28 destroys the doctrine of "soul sleep".
Ask them if they are just a body and see what they say.
Then put them on the spot by focusing on the following passages which deal with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, which we receive upon coming to faith in Christ.
