Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do we gain?

I remember when they were 25 cents a pack in a vending machine.

That machine looks familiar. The cheapest I ever paid was at an air force base in Alaska.....11 cents. You put 15 cents in and the pack came out with four pennies taped to the side. Ah the goodle days.

I will ask again, does your body care whether a drug addiction is with a legal, or illegal drug?

Of course not. What's your point?

....by helping drug addicts, beside feeling good? We now have an epidemic of dangerous heroin use with hundreds dying each month across the country, costing millions that we don't have. Shouldn't we, as a society, just let them reap the fruit of their bad decisions? Of course family and friends can spend their money, time, and emotions if they choose, but why should the nation go bankrupt trying save every lost soul?

I'm not exactly sure what you're proposing...

What's "letting them reap the fruit of their bad decisions"? Do you want emt personnel to show up on scene and say, "sorry sir, your son here appears to be dying from an overdose....we just let them die these days."?

You do realize that we have an epidemic because of the pharmaceutical companies and medical industry decided it would be worth making boatloads of money by prescribing highly addictive painkillers for everything they can and who cares what the consequences are?

I've taken those pain killers in recovering from several medical procedures. When my doctor stopped that prescription I quit as ordered. I also have voluntarily quit sooner as I didn't like the severe constipation that results from these drugs. If I, one of the biggest losers on these forums, can quit without becoming addicted so can anyone. ^_^

I'm proposing that they (are forced to) take full responsibility for the trouble they cause by being so irresponsible. "A hard lesson is a good lesson". (Coined by someone smarter than average.)

Can you say that in a way that's less vague?

Not everyone has the same chemical reactions...surely you realize that?

Gotcha...a total lack of understanding of addiction/chemical changes inside the body. Perhaps they should be teaching that to children instead of toilets.

Not only that, but the various psychological variables that are in play. One solution fits all? Good luck with that.

It's really kind of astounding just how much various chemicals can distort perceptions, alter moods, etc.

Why do you think some get addicted and some dont?

I haven't the foggiest.

Interesting choice of term some. I would phrase it, "Why do you think a few get addicted but most don't?" Your phrasing suggests that the numbers are somewhat equal.

Might be something for you to investigate. Knowledge, is a good thing.

Only in the past couple months have I become aware of the fact that heroin is such a huge problem in the U.S., thanks to news coverage. It's so crazy to me that so many people are getting hooked on this stuff in this day and age. Surely they know the dangers?

That being said, it's in all of our best interests to try to decrease the number of drug addicts running around. Shrugging and leaving them to suffer will only increase crime, keep them from working (thereby hurting the economy), bankrupt families, put more kids in the foster care system, etc.

Perhaps we should ask them what we should do about their addiction and who is going to pay for it. That should be interesting.
