Following after THEY WERE CALLED. They did not go up to Jesus and spontaneously follow him UNTIL Jesus CALLED them. They did NOT seek after God on their own.

Yes, I think that's what JESUS said somewhere too - "you did not seek me" .... and "I CHOSE YOU" ...

I absolutely agree with the word of god . but the verse doesn't actually have anything to do with the post it replies to . after all i am only repeating the gospel as it is written .. repent , be baptized for the remission of your sin and receive the holy ghost -these are the instructions on how to have His salvation that HE has provided through no effort of our own ,credited to our life - if one does not "obey " the gospel " there is dire eternal consequence .

repentance is NOT saying sorry and then continuing to practice the actions you claim to be sorrow for having done . not any where not ever . 1 john ch 3 states that if a person continues to practice sin (not muck up one time -but continues to practice it repeatedly ).. they are not OF god .. these are not my words .they are scripture . address the scriptures .

Have you found the scripture that tells you when you die you aren't saved yet? Until Jesus returns in his second coming? And then you're saved?

or they cannot DO WHAT JESUS SAYS UNTIL after they die,

or worse - THEY CANNOT KNOW that they are saved EVER! (they may say they find out after they die, but by then it is too late according to GOD'S WORD, isn't it? ) .

YHWH HELP THEM, and us - all we can do is tell the truth (plant / water seed) and let them go ...

Not to beat a dead horse but I want to be clear... the English word repent carries the idea of turning away from sin, amending your life, feeling guilt and remorse, or changing the mind. That is NOT the concept behind teshuvah, it simply means "to return." Here is verse where we see the word:

Deut 30:8 And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.

If this had been taken from Greek, it probably would have been rendered, "if you shall repent and obey the voice of the LORD." However, if you go back and start at Deut. 30:1 and read through verse 8 here, the context is not turning from sin, feeling guilt or remorse, it is solely and purely dealing with returning from the exile that God scattered His people into.

Here is another worth weighing in...

Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

If this were written in Hebrew, which most scholars believe Matthew was, it would have been teshuvah where we see repent. So "Return, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Why is return important to understand? Context...

Matthew 15:24 But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

See, Deut. 30:1-6, Hosea 1... a score of other places... have a promise that God will call BACK from the nations the ones who were scattered into them. In fact, it is one of the most repeated and as-yet-unfulfilled prophesies in Scripture. So RETURN is God calling us BACK.

That is different than us changing our minds.

The false teachers are like bad seed that produce bad fruit that spreads across the landscape. It should be plucked out by the roots.
But that is what God foresaw wasn't it? And why we are told to test the spirits to see if they are of God or of the Devil.

Like that pastor on the radio I heard the other day. I was stunned that he even had airtime and spent money to preach lies. Repent every time you sin or you'll lose your salvation and end up in Hell. Can you imagine the poor lost soul that hears that and believes that?
Like the same type pastor that says you're not actually saved until Jesus comes again. Then it kicks in?
For over 2000 years all the Christians, all the martyrs, that have passed on. And that kind of adversarial teaching to the truth of Christ claims not one of those people were saved. Not even the Apostles.
I admit I've never heard either of those lies before these last few days. Thank God. I hope they are rebuked where ever they appear and that no sincere seeker of the truth of Christ believes the lies from the pit such as that.
They'll live their whole life otherwise deluded thinking they're following Christ when they're actually cleaving to the lies of his enemies.
God protect them and the church of God who are united in Christ. Amen.

I have experienced that sometimes those who do not accept eternal security, have in their history done something they feel that God has let them go.

My experience with both sides is quite different - those who don't believe things contrary to Scripture take care to honor YHWH and guard Scripture and "work out their salvation (the way YHWH means this) with fear (the way YHWH means this) and trembling" We TREMBLE AT YHWH'S WORD , in JOYOUS RAMBUNCTIOUS EXTRAVAGANT GENEROUS WITHOUT MEASURE FREEDOM IN Y'SHUA and a totally clean conscience (no part nor present sins nor thoughts of sinning any more) ;
while those who don't care about their sin, not a clean conscience but a seared one, or a dead one, decided to keep on sinning and believe what they were told - "don't worry about sinning".
And so, they don't worry; no, not at all. And they don't turn to YHWH (repent).
Often, instead, they boast.
Oh well.

i'm off the understanding there is no English word repent its from a word that means in English to think again, change your thinking ,,turn from it ..sin is an action ,to not do the action one must change their mind in regard to doing it and do what gods wants not what they will in themselves . so either way its spinning about the same meaning from differing angles. as we said , same switch described differently

Catholics are christians. They believe the gospel too. They believe that Jesus saves. Althought I think they add to the salvation process (which i do not agree), but they are saved nonetheless.
