I have 7 sisters and every time one of them have women issues there are group meetings and prayer groups for a month and they all worry. If one of them needs attention all they need to do is go to the doctor to have some "woman part" looked at and they all huddle together and whisper about it.

Women's issues...means HEALTH PROBLEMS...so yes, they would huddle and pray over these...and because with female problems hangs the fear of a lot of cancers ... cervical, ovarian, endrometrial, breast, etc....

Yes I know. One of my sisters just had all her stuff taken out because she had been bleeding for so long. I don't even understand your guys systems so please keep me in the dark about this stuff. I can build motors, weld, build motorcycles, run CNC machinery but I still have not figured out the woman's reproductive system and I don't want to.
Did you never learn about it in school?

Also, haven't you expressed a desire to have children, or am I getting you confused with someone else?

They do not do anything to a fertilized egg...they may alter the uterus so that it does not accept the fertilized egg. However, the normal body may do the same thing and nobody would know it or the normal body does it frequently in the first 12 weeks and we call it a spontaneous abortion...often the mother never even knew she was pregnant. It is up to you if you think this is a form of abortion...but again, it does not act on the fertilized egg.

I didn't disagree...that is also why women get myomectomies and hysterectomies... but they are often put on the pill first to regulate the flow

Actually I had a doctor that was trying to pressure me into a hysterectomy (the most unnecessary surgery done on women) but I opted for a embolization. It was great for about a year and a half then the fibroids came back. I then hedged my bets with menopause vs hysterectomy. I chose menopause. It worked out in my favor. Women need to know all their options...

Why are you using contraceptive pills if you are a virgin and waiting until marriage.... ?
i believe that was explained in the OP. The use is NOT for contraceptive purposes.

This is a great deal more common than you may imagine. When i was in college, i was friends with a young lady who was (and to my knowledge still is) Catholic.

She also had bi-polar disorder. There was a problem: Because her cycle was irregular and her hormones were raging (as is the case in the OP), her medication had side effects that were not conducive to her being a student. She'd sleep A LOT whilst on medication for her condition.

My recommendation was for her to go on the pill to straighten out her cycle and hormone levels. Did i mention that she was a religious traditional Catholic? Naturally there was a problem with this issue. Even though, like the original poster, the woman was a virgin, and planned on having lots of kids after marriage.

My solution to the problem was to arrange for here to discuss the issue with a local Catholic Priest, who assured her that since contraception was not an issue, the pill was not sinful for her.

Last i heard she had a bunch of kids and is no longer working in her profession because she enjoys being "Mom".

maybe move this to the women's forum as the contraceptive pill is quite specific to women. Maybe other women who take it and also christians can tell you if they had any qualms being on it.

All I know is some women take it cos they just want to have sexual relations without children. I haven't heard it used for acne before, but I have heard some doctors prescribe it for women who have a hard time with their menstrual cycle. I wouldn't say thats a wise thing to do though...because they dont really bother telling anyone the risk factors of taking a pill every day of your life.

I know for me if a doctor is prescribing me anything I want to know exactly what it does and what's in it. Often the doctors don't even know.

I mean ...thalidomide anyone? Or xenical. Or any number of drugs that seemed to work but caused more problems later on.

Disclaimer: I know that this is a singles' forum and therefore none of us should be in a position in life to be using or contemplating contraception.

So I know that there are some very vocal parties who are anti-contraception and believe that as one of the main purposes of marriage is to be fruitful and multiply, it is sinful to hinder God's plans for our families I.e. prevent pregnancy.

I am currently using a contraceptive pill to keep my hormones under control and keep my acne at bay, but I am single and a virgin, so there's no chance for me to be hindering pregnancy by this use. I am currently undecided on whether the use of it in marriage is sinful or not, but it I arrive at that conclusion, I will plan to discontinue use a few months before I get married.

What are your thoughts?

When my sister had her last child, she developed gestational diabetes and the doctors told her that her kidneys could not support another pregnancy. So, she has been using contraceptives for the last 10 years. Fortunately, she is nearing the change of life so she will not have to worry about that much longer.

I don't see anything wrong with contraceptives. They are extremely beneficial for women who have serious reproductive health problems. Many women literally cannot function for a week out of every month, and that's unacceptable when we have to work and support ourselves. Especially if she has a family. Contraception can fix that. Birth control can be lifesaving too, as pregnancy may endanger some womens' lives.

I don't think its unacceptable to take a week off work, as God designed us to have rest periods. If a wife has to work all the time, I would question what her husband is doing.

Actually I think its unacceptable that women should work 7 days a week without any down time period.

I meant a standard work week, which would be 5 days.

Unfortunately most companies are not with you on that. I worked for one company that had absolutely horrible and stringent payed time off policies. It made it impossible for anybody with chronic health issues or a poor immune system to be able to go on vacation.

Also, this applies to single women as well, who are supporting themselves. They may not be able to afford taking that kind of time off because of a period. I work sometimes beyond full time. 40 hours or more a week, and I've worked 6 days in a row, which turned into about a 70 hour work week.

Its the Jewish(Israelite) people who observe the sabbath and keep it holy as commanded by God.
Yes, people that don't know God do not observe sabbaths, and don't have that concept.

countries that based their values on judaeo-christian values have weekends.

Try telling that to your employer who pays you to work, or your colleagues who have to pick up the slack when you're not there. There are consequences to taking time off work beyond being incapacitated regularly to the point where you can't work, which is bad enough on its own.

Women with fibroids can still bleed excessively after menopause. And no, hysterectomies are not usually "unnecessary"...they are often "an options" in which case they are elective surgery ... but sometimes they are necessary to stop a woman from excessive bleeding or removing a cancer...just to name a few.

Every doctor should tell you the side effects and long term implications of a medication he/she prescribes. If they don't, you should be pro-active and find out for yourself from REPUTABLE sources like your pharmacist....or your doctor...or find a doctor that will tell you.

And you should also find out the risks and long term implications of NOT taking the medication when it is recommended. Sometimes it is nothing much...other times, (like concerning necessary diabetic medications) it you mean that you have serious health complications now and later in life.

Even for stay-at-home moms...are you going to tell your 2 year old..."Sorry, you will just have to sit in your room unfed and dirty for a week while mommy "rests"?

And I wonder what kind of job would even consider letting a woman have a week off each month? I know I get three (unpaid) days total a year to be sick...and I'm a nurse.

I have a hot mess of words for this discussion but I'll keep them to myself. You're all welcome.

Concerning the actual OP, I think that morally you're just fine in regards to taking a contraceptive pill for health reasons alone.
