Women with fibroids can still bleed excessively after menopause. And no, hysterectomies are not usually "unnecessary"...they are often "an options" in which case they are elective surgery ... but sometimes they are necessary to stop a woman from excessive bleeding or removing a cancer...just to name a few.

Ughhhhhh...smh...I just can't...

I get not wanting to have one or any surgery but why so adamant? If you are healthy, a laparascopic hysterectomy can be done out-patient...and even the patients that get admitted...even those that have to have open surgery, are walking within a day with oral pain meds controlling the pain...uncomfortable but not in horrible pain...and often are down to ibuprofen only within 48 hours.

I just read that menopause usually does shrink fibroids because of the lack of hormones so you may be safe if you have hit menopause. My experience is skewed because I get the ones who had bleeding post menopause and had to have surgical intervention. Did anyone offer myomectomy as an option where they just remove the tumors and not the uterus? I have had a few ablation patients too.

Great, now I am looking up women's reproductive system on Wikipedia.

It is pretty fascinating system that God designed. Just because it is in a female, doesn't mean it shouldn't be learned about by everyone...I mean half the population is women and most men know and love at least one woman in their lives...(mom)...and may have to face supporting or helping that woman through some tough medical situations.

I have had patients who have had huge amounts of their internal organs (large intestines, part of their small intestines, bladder, female organs) because of endrometrial cancer and am amazed by how well they do....and how tough these ladies are...seventy year old women who have more fight in them than a lot of young men.

And yet, most women have no idea of how their bodies work because it is considered a hush-hush topic. Most women have no idea about menopause...or even what age to expect it at (average age is 52...so that means many women are OLDER than 52) and most woman have never heard of fibroids although they are probably the number one gyn cause of surgical intervention done on premenopausal women (maybe after c-sections and possibly D&Cs).

And they justify a whole specialty of medicine that gets its own hospital units...men's reproduction falls under urology.

I have to agree with this. I learned an enormous amount about the female reproductive system when my mother had ovarian cancer. That was her second bout with cancer. The first being cervical cancer, but I was a young kid when that happened.

um.
James of Arc you don't have to know if this is making you uncomfortable.

Which is why I suggested this be moved to women's forum.

if acne is a problem like you have a breakout, don't touch your face and use something that has salycilic acid OR aloe vera I heard is good for skin.

I don't know what doctors would prescribe for MALES that have acne problems would that mean they are given the contraceptive pill as well?? Scary.

The discussion here is ultimately about pregnancy prevention within marriage, which obviously involves both parties. Not just the wife. A male opinion is needed for proper discussion of this topic, so moving this thread to the women's forum would make no sense.

And James is an adult conversing on an adult forum with other adults in perfectly acceptable threads of mature nature. He can handle it.

that is only common acne...acne can be as serious health condition that requires more than surface treatments

to get back on the original topic, I used to have DINKs living next door to me. DINK (Double Income, No Kids) they were both in their 40s and married since the age of 23 if I remember her correctly. They are out there. They both focused on careers and hobbies instead of families. Children can often be a curse for people and sadly, parents can be a curse for children if they are not wanted and learn this truth. I was a constant inconvenience to mine and they let me know that. I won't have any, that's for sure. I see both sides of the argument as it says be fruitful and multiply but if you never try and stop it, you could end up with 20 kids and that's no realistic if your income is under $200k a year

Extremes ... huge difference between 0 and 20 .. with most of us picking 2-3 kids. However, I will never tell someone who doesn't want to have kids to have kids for the very reason you mention. Kids deserve to be wanted and to be made a priority in their parents lives while they are young.

what I was getting at is if you're sexually active all the time and not trying in any way to stop pregnancy, wouldn't you assume one could keep popping kids out? Look at the Duggars.... or however you spell their name

Just because a couple chooses to be sexually active on a regular basis without protection will end up like the Duggars. Not every woman is fertile like that. Sure, your chance of having a good handful of kids is high, but not necessarily 20+ kids high.

Getting pregnant isn't that simple...and actually having sex on a daily basis is a way to minimize the risk of getting pregnant because none of the swimmers get a chance to mature. When someone is having a hard time conceiving, one of the first things they do is limit your sexual activity. And there are only about 3-4 days a month where a woman can get pregnant. And even still, it isn't a given. So yes, you can have unprotected sex on a regular basis and never conceive...(but I wouldn't use that as my form of birth control if you really don't want to get pregnant).

There are also natural methods of birth control Catholics (and others who believe contraception use is sinful) use to prevent pregnancy.

True. Part of it was that she had a lot of trouble breastfeeding, so her fertility went back up quickly after each birth. Many mothers who favor NFP or Quiverfull will breastfeed for a year or more and use that as natural spacing between births (disclaimer: there's no guarantee that this will work).
