  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How Did Fire Survive Noah's Flood?

Yup, I can absolutely comprehend that some people believe that Noah's ark existed. Don't be condescending.
I am not being condescending, you are obviously an ex-believer, would you be saying the same thing if people believed in fairies to the same extent?
Also, beyond the methane build up, a lot of animals are afraid of fire, so there is also that.
Not on the ark they weren't, God saw to all of that.

Oh yes, of course I can.
Only when people didn't know any better.
And I would have used an "eek" smilely if it was there to show that I was joking of course.
I wasn't joking, people have been deliberately raised to believe in such nonsense and I think it's scandalous.

Excuse me, obviously an ex believer? I suppose we haven't formally met. My name is Sarah, and I have never in my life been a theist. I have been a seeker for the past 7 years, but my own mind tends so far towards the skeptical, that I have been incapable of forcing belief onto myself, no matter how hard I have tried to do it, and continue to do it.

Ask anyone that knows me on this site, and they can confirm that I have said as much for as long as I have been a member of this site; only the number of years has changed as time has passed.

Just because I am willing to give people respect, doesn't mean I am or have ever been a part of the group in question. I shouldn't have to have an experience like that to respect people with different views than myself, no matter how much I disagree.

And of course one could make all sorts of specious arguments for the flood by throwing miracles around willy nilly. The problem is that it is supposed to be impossible for God to lie. Since all of the evidence tells us that there was no flood and God is the creator that would mean that God created evidence that says there was no flood. And the claim that God can't lie makes that a terrible self contradiction for Flood believers.

If God miracled away any and all problems, there's really nothing to discuss. No critical thinking is needed.
Besides, all of Noah's critics died in the Flood.

All miracles leave behind no evidence of natural sourcing.
Dat's why dey call dem miracles.
Elsewise dey be natural events.

In the bible, no one is stated to have been critical of Noah. It would make sense if they were, given how long he worked on the ark, but no such information is stated by the bible. Then again, my memory for scripture is definitely not the greatest.

Sorry, but that is called "rationalization". The problem is that all of the evidence out there tells us that there was no flood. That means that to believe in the flood you have to believe that your God covered up the evidence. That would mean that to believe in a flood you have to believe in a lying God. Even when I was a Christian I did not believe in a lying God.

In contrast, I could see how one could interpret YHWH as a dishonest deity. How likable a deity is has nothing to do with whether or not I believe it exists, and I am enough of a coward to worship a morally questionable being if it means a better afterlife for myself. I just don't think any deities actually exist, be they moral or immoral, or anything in between.

You're just normal.

Mark 2:10-12
"But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"--He said to the paralytic, "I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and go home." And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this."

Read that again: "We have never seen anything like this."
Read that again: "We have never seen anything like this."

Mark 7:37
They were utterly astonished, saying, "He has done all things well; He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."

I didn't go looking for these comments about miracles.
Your view is exactly as scripture describes.
That's how we know scripture is accurate.

This goes beyond "We have never seen anything like this". You are describing a lying God. That is not a reasonable belief.

Try again.

It's all covered in scripture.
People cannot believe, whatever "it" is.

No, the evidence says that there was no flood. For that to happen would require a dishonest God if your belief in the Flood was correct. "Fixing" everything is one thing. Making a false past that refutes the flood is another.
