  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If I said "What is Scotland famous for?" I think most people would say "The Loch Ness Monster."

The very first sighting of Nessie came about around 565AD, when Saint Columba was travelling through Scotland. He came across some people at Loch Ness burying one of the locals who had been attacked by the water monster. Then he asked a guy called Lugne to retrieve a boat from the other side of the lake. Suddenly Nessie appeared and was about to attack him, when the Saint yelled at the creature "You will go no further, and won't touch the man; go back at once." The monster quickly disappeared.

Since then, there have been many sightings of the monster. In July 22nd 1933 Mr Spicer and his wife were travelling between Dores and Inverfarigaig. They spotted a huge animal crossing the road ahead of them. 5th of January, 1934, a motorcyclist had a near collision with the creature as he was returning home. As Mr Grant approached the monster, it saw Grant and quickly crossed the road back down to the Loch. In April 1934 the most famous photograph was taken by a London surgeon.

Till this day, tourists flock to Loch Ness hoping to catch a glimpse of Nessie. But some think "If there's such a creature lurking in the loch, then why hasn't anyone found the monster or any remains?" Well, a size of a plesiosaur would be quite huge and quite impressive and quite scary if you saw it swimming towards you! So you would think it would be easy to find.

But could the famous monster be a ghost?

Hi, could you please send me the link if possible.

Sorry, I couldn't find it anymore, it was some time ago, buried in posts.

Anyway, it was my pet theory based on the study of paranormal and experiences with ghosts of animals and deceased matter.

A supernatural and intelligent force that is resident in our DNA. And dinosaur DNA does get preserved in iron nanostructures (preserved by the hemoglobin in the blood). These intelligent energy could also be imprinted in inanimate and even inorganic objects.

This born out of the basic survival instincts of any form of life - that is to survive and reproduce in any means possible even after the death of the original body.

Sounds very interesting.

I think he meant the drink lol. But I like how worded it. Do you think that there's something lurking in the Loch? If so, what do you think it could be?

There was a famous photo which was supposed to show the head of Nessie, which was later proven to be a fake. There have been various photos, of course. Loch Ness is rather deep, of course, and could hide various creatures. One place for sightings is near Castle Urquhart.

I don't think there is a monster lurking in the loch. I think it's simply a legend that does really well for the tourist trade of Scotchland.

What do you think the monster could be?

A figment of some people's imagination made popular by other people's imagination.

Also, in all honesty things I think about first when thinking about Scotland:

1. Kilts
2. Haggis.
3. Ach!
4. For Auld Lang Syne
5. Oh, and this:
latest

Ghosts can't attack and kill people in this dispensation.

True. However I asked because no one has been able to catch the creature, but people have claimed to have seen her. Maybe it was a living creature once upon a time.
