If I said "What is Scotland famous for?" I think most people would say "The Loch Ness Monster."
The very first sighting of Nessie came about around 565AD, when Saint Columba was travelling through Scotland. He came across some people at Loch Ness burying one of the locals who had been attacked by the water monster. Then he asked a guy called Lugne to retrieve a boat from the other side of the lake. Suddenly Nessie appeared and was about to attack him, when the Saint yelled at the creature "You will go no further, and won't touch the man; go back at once." The monster quickly disappeared.
Since then, there have been many sightings of the monster. In July 22nd 1933 Mr Spicer and his wife were travelling between Dores and Inverfarigaig. They spotted a huge animal crossing the road ahead of them. 5th of January, 1934, a motorcyclist had a near collision with the creature as he was returning home. As Mr Grant approached the monster, it saw Grant and quickly crossed the road back down to the Loch. In April 1934 the most famous photograph was taken by a London surgeon.
Till this day, tourists flock to Loch Ness hoping to catch a glimpse of Nessie. But some think "If there's such a creature lurking in the loch, then why hasn't anyone found the monster or any remains?" Well, a size of a plesiosaur would be quite huge and quite impressive and quite scary if you saw it swimming towards you! So you would think it would be easy to find.
But could the famous monster be a ghost?
