  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The "un-derailable" thread!

I have to confess I wish a knowledgeable EO member would checkride my heresiological posts in Controversial Theology to ensure they are dogmatically correct and broadly acceptable on a pan-Orthodox basis.

Wow, I don't even venture in there. The last time a thread I was in got moved there, it was taken over by someone who claimed to be an angel of a special type whose job it was to .... (I left then.) I wonder if it's still like that?

I'm always thankful when I'm elsewhere and someone checks me and backs me up (or corrects if needed). Obviously I'm far too inexperienced to do that, but I understand wanting someone to do so.

Well, several of the more active members are working to try and improve the quality of discourse. In general the main problem at the moment is personal ad hominems; I would like to be able to have interesting debates with the very much non-Orthodox, non-Nicene set, but the more able members are scared off either by what you report or by gross flamage.

Hmmmmm. Flaming shouldn't be tolerated anywhere. But with that said, I think staff is stretched really thin. It's impossible to monitor everything, and takes time just to deal with reports.

I wish I could offer to be more helpful, but I'm always playing catch-up to do the minimum I'm supposed to be doing.

With concerted effort, a forum can be improved or maintained, but it takes many sets of eyes.

Indeed so. I like the ocnet approach of section moderators who actively follow and participate in most discussions in their subfora.

That has it's advantages. I've been in places where it was handled that way. But it can have disadvantages too. I think here they encourage it not to be so, so that moderators aren't taking actions among people they regularly interact with, or in threads where they are part of discussion. It could too easily be seen as taking sides, or lead to hurt feelings.

Indeed, there is such a risk.

The underailable thread needs a resurrection! We need a Seinfeld thread about nothing! To take my mind off of cheese, eggs, and ice cream!

The professor in Gilligan's Island? He can make a radio out of a coconut, but he can't fix the hole in the boat. What is the deal?

I officially hate mice. My love of animals is severely tested by them. Cats sound really appealing to me now...I think I'd rather a cat take care of them than me....

My cat is an awesome mouser. Except ..... she likes to make the game last as long as possible, so she's bad about bringing the mouse into the room where I am sleeping, then PLAYING with the darn thing, and sometimes it gets away. Or throwing it up into the air just for fun ....

Thankfully I have not had mice since I left the farm. But last week she found a lizard and did the same thing. She couldn't understand why I did not appreciate her little game when she threw the poor lizard on me!

(I rescued the poor thing and took it outside and set it free, and it did run away from the place where I left it.)

Actually, now that I think on it, my daughter's cat was the awesome mouser. I would wake up and open the door and he'd have them all lined up there, waiting for me. Generally headless.

It is starting to cool off down our way, so the mice are looking for nice warm places to live, like behind our kitchen cabinets. Luckily it seems they simply cannot resist a trap baited with peanut butter, even after several members of their family have preceded them over a period of days.

for the most part it was aiight. Ben, Jeremy Irons, and Gal Gadot were great in there respective roles. I loved Batman's reveal. can't really go into what I did not like because I don't want to spoil it.

Many years ago we lived in an old frame house in Dallas with an open carport behind our kitchen. One winter, when I opened a drawer to get a kitchen towel, there was a mother 'possum with her baby there, enjoying the warmth. She lived in those drawers a long time before we were able to catch her (we caught her in a big trash can and called animal control to come get her) but until then I never knew when or what drawer I would find her in!

I hear it's one of those "ya love it or ya hate it" kind of flicks....

I'm NOT a Ben Affleck fan at all, so I am not thrilled about that. I was disappointed in the Gal Gadot casting for WW. I wanted Alexandra Daddario, Jaime Alexander, Katrina Law, Olivia Munn, Hayley Atwell, etc. Those women would've rocked it so much better. Katrina Law honestly would've been the best of them.

I hear the movie is so loaded with plot holes that it's dizzying at times.

Not sure if I want to go see it?

one time my mom was cooking green beans in a frying pan. A mouse came running out of nowhere jumped up in the rim of the pan, grabbed a green bean, and hauled butt with it. My mom was so mad at the cat. I lghed and said he'd been waiting for the green beans to be done.

visually it's great, but you are right. there are not gaping plot holes that I saw, but there is too much for a short movie. I also was not really an Affleck fan, but he nailed it in my opinion. very much the brutal Batman of the late 80's.

I expected Batman vs Superman to be STOOOOOOPID, but I found it to be a very enjoyable way to waste a few hours. I was shocked at how good of a job Ben Affleck did as Batman. It was just waaaayyyyy to much story stuffed into one movie. They should have had more stand alone movies first. Look how many stand alones were out when the first Avengers came out. There were at least two Iron Man movies, Captain America, Thor, and I'm choosing to ignore those awful Hulk movies. All this movie really had in terms of set up was Man of Steel. You can't really count the recent Dark Knight Batman movies because the last time we saw Batman he had faked his own death, so that he could have a "normal" life with Catwoman, and Robin was rising as the new Dark Knight. So, how did we get from that to this? They should have had at least one new stand alone Batman to help set this up.

Plus, why was Batman upset with Superman? Because of a tragedy at Wayne Towers that was really caused by Zod. How was that Superman's fault?

SPOILER ALERT!

it was mostly because of the collateral damage their fight caused. Lex had the world convinced that Superman would wipe out an entire town if it meant getting the bad guy.
