  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes of course. I forgot that atheists are never wrong. I must tell Christopher Hitchens that he was wrong because Subduction Zone says he was. What would Christopher know. After all he is one of the most quoted atheists on the planet (when he was alive of course). And here is me thinking that he knew what he was talking about. Just shows that you can't believe a word that an atheist says.

Judging by the comments here from atheists I can believe what one atheist told me that no one atheist speaks for another. So if an atheist says the world was 10 years old that is right and if another one says that is 10 million years old that is right and if another says that it was 10 billion years old that is right.

And if an atheist said as he did on TV we all came from a sand worm that is right. And if another one as David Attenborough said we all descended from a fish that must be right and if another one said we descended from an amoeba in a pond that must be right.

No wonder people think that evolution is a fairy story.

1 Samuel 2:3 (21st Century King James Bible)
Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogance come out of your mouth; for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by Him actions are weighed.

Sorry, at best you misunderstood them. Seriously, if this was true you could support it with links. Give me a link that shows anyone of any authority making this claim. If you can't you are just spewing nonsense.

I am waiting for the atheists who said that most christians support evolution to give us his link. I won't hold my breath as atheists on most occasions are just spewing nonsense so evidence is not their strong forte.

I can understand why some think evolution is a fairy tale. The problem they have is that they are unhappy with the very humble origins it gives us. That offends their ego. However, if you take a look at Scripture, it also gives us a very humble origin, that of being created out of mud or dust, which, incidentally agrees with evolution, as fundamentally we are all made out of star dust. And if you stop and think about it, evolution appears an almost miraculous, magical kind of creation. Look, if God could make a man out of a monkey, think what he could do with a jackass like you. Also, it is not necessarily the case that only atheists believe in evolution. There are, for example, evolutionary theists. I, for one, believe that evolution would be impossible without God, and that creation is actually God's own elf-evolution from unconsciousness and pure potentiality into self-consciousness and self-actualization. Also, I am having trouble here with the remarks some are making about evidence. It is true that no one was around to directly observe the Big Bang. However, it is also true that no one was abound to directly observe God creating in six days.

Evolution isn't about the origin of life.

Evolution isn't about the origin of life.

Better tell all your atheist friends then as they spend a lot of time denying that God created the heavens and earth and all that is in it i.e. the origin of life. They are adamant that he had nothing to do with it. Which means.....where did life come from so it is about the origin of life because..if it is not then all the arguing in the world will not and cannot deny the fact that in the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth and everything in it.

Evolution is not about the origin of life.

You can think it is though, if it makes you feel better.

Well, since you requested someone tell you how life began, here goes. I, for one, believe in God and evolution. I think evolution would be totally impossible without God. I also believe creation is God's own self-evolution from unconsciousness into self-consciousness. You might find it interesting to note this concept of divine evolution is to be found in the Christian mystical tradition, e.g., Meister Eckhart and Jacob Boehme. But that is another story. Frankly, I don't think life ever had a beginning. I agree that it evolved, that God continually ushers in creative potentials to draw us to greater levels of complexity and sensitivity. However, we are concerned here with life in general. much depends on how you view the basic building blocks of the universe. Atoms? Passive, inert dead matter? Most scientific thinking do view matter as basically dead matter. However, that is a hold over from earlier religious biases that stressed mind or spirit and matter were two wholly separate, conflicting, independent realities. I disagree. I posit the basic building blocks of the universe are momentary unities of experience, that mind and matter are one. All things in all their aspects consist exclusively of souls. Hence, to me, all of matter is alive, and evolution is basically a process where God lures matter onto becoming more complex life forms.

Another atheist who thinks that America is the centre of the world. No, sorry another atheist who thinks that America IS the world. FYI, only a small percentage of christian live in America. The majority do not live in America.

The atheist claim was "most christians" and as most christians do not live in America, the Pew survey is irrelevant as there are 2.4 billion christians in the world, not just over 1,000.

You atheists really need to sharpen your research skills. if you did, you would stop throwing up meaningless comment to facts presented.

Post 416. You even quoted it in post 421.

Oh dear oh dear. So implausible. Surveying 1,000 christians in America is NOT most christians. Try again.

Here is a clue. There are 2.4 billion worldwide.

(1,000 American christians are "most christians" Oh dear, what a joke.)

Now that's not fair. When you asked for a source we assumed that meant you had the ability to understand how polls work.

And what has that got to do with "most christians." You are getting so desperate you are plucking anything you can out of the air to save face.

The Pew poll is asking leading questions. Notice, the question wasn't asked about DARWINIST (Godless) evolution, the view that humans, and all life we observe today, are the result of ONLY naturalistic mechanisms acting on an alleged single life from from long ago. In fact, the term "evolution" isn't defined in the poll. It's the same meaningless claim made by some there that Christians believe in evolution, with no definition for 'evolution'.

It's meaningless until which particular view of evolution is being asked about.
