  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

What do you think this is saying?

Abraham was promised a son.
I know that you know the story.

The blessing comes through Abraham's descendants...namely, Israel.
Jesus was not promised to the Gentiles, but to Israel...remember, they had already rejected God from the throne...

Now, I do not know why God chose the Jews instead of some other group of people, but He did. And He used them to bring Jesus to the world.
You can deny that all you like, but it doesn't change the fact.
lol..and law voids that promise...please post text..thanks!

Rom 4:13 For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. 14 For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void.

God called uncircumcised Abe from his father's house...and, when God decreed it, Abe was circumcised.
I don't know what your problem with Judaism is...but, as I have said...take it up with God.
u ignore the emphatic..

Rom 4:10 How then was it counted to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.

You quoted Joel, yet at pentecost, the Spirit also, mostly spoke in a gentile tongues.
In Acts 2:22-36 there is one man speaking...Peter alone.
And all of those Gentiles understood him.
How do you suppose that could have been?

You do know that Jesus was circumcised, yes?
You know that He was Jewish? His mother was Jewish? He attended the synagogue?
And He kept the law.

I'm sure you did know these things...

I don't get it. Why is it so important to you guys to reject the fact that Christianity is the logical outgrowth of Judaism?
You do know that the New Covenant, which you claim for yourself, was promised to Israel?
No one says that you must become Jewish, fevvinsakes...however, the truth is the truth. Without Judaism (as chosen by God), there would be no Christianity. God chose the Jews to bring Jesus to the world.

And now it is midnight...and I'm off to bed.
G'night!

Abraham got the gospel as a gentile for Gentiles in Gen 12:3, GAL 3:8, and Paul used pre circumcised Abe in Rom 4, so perhaps the 'getting over it" is for others who impose Judaism, not me!:D
How can the father of the Jews be a Gentles? Why would you believe that the root of the tree is mango roots and the tree banana? Only the rejection of truth leads to such errors.

But one is not a child of God because of being jewish...

Rom 9:8 This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring
Rom, 11: We are part of the same tree Israel.
20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again.

24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

Goodness, Paul was also a Jew...don't these people know this?

I understand the scriptures in the OP perfectly. What I don't understand is how anyone could add their opinion contrariwise, just to support a sect of law keepers, who simply have only demonstrated "stumbling" here so far. The Old Covenant is the Law of Moses. No one but Jesus kept it. Then it was abolished, for that reason. Now we who are drawn by Jesus, have the NEW LAW written in our hearts. Not on stone, where it was impossible for a man to keep. But with the Spirit of Christ in me, of Him who keeps the Law, then by His Spirit, so also do I then, for we are ONE.
A New Covenant by the Spirit of Christ gives us the obedience to the Faith of Abraham. Nothing under the Law could or ever will be able to accomplish salvation, such a thought process is the stumblingblock. Jesus is the only Way.
It seems clear to me...
