It might be more instructive to get the story from the horse's mouth, as it were. The following article was written by someone who became an atheist after they were shown how wrong creationism is.
"As I accepted evolution, I watched everything I had ever known crumble at my feet. I had been taught that the truth of the Bible rested on young earth creationism. Now that that foundation was gone, I had no idea what to do with the Bible. How could I trust it? How could I believe in it? How could I interpret it? But on the other hand, how could I give it up? My entire life centered on Christ and I found my entire value in what I meant to Jesus. Without my relationship with God, my life was nothing. "

What is interesting is that Dr. Georgia Purdom over at Answers in Genesis thought it necessary to make a few comments:

Ken Ham also made a few comments:

Libby Anne, the girl who had creationism drive her to atheism, tore them apart with this response:

Basically, Ken Ham and AiG argued that Libby just didn't believe creationism hard enough. Instead of being forthright and honest about the lies that they peddle, AiG said that she should have believed the lies really really hard. That seems to be a common response.
