  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In Canadian High Schools we learn about many different faiths in a neutral manner. We learn about Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity.

For whatever reason we do not consider it a threat to learn that other ways of life and religion exist without demonizing their adherents.

It works for us, you should try it.

If you read the article, you'd find they are only promoting 1 religion, they are not even discussing any other religion.

The complaint is not that we learn about Islam, the complaint is that the discussing, learning about all other religions, specifically, Chritianity, is prohibited.

From the articles…

“I asked the school district to provide me with a copy of vocabulary worksheets that promoted the Jewish, Hindu and Christian faiths.

The school district did not reply.

I also asked for the past or future dates when the students would be given those vocabulary worksheets.

The school district has yet to reply.”

And…

Starnes said he followed up by requesting copies of worksheets that promoted the Jewish, Hindu and Christian faiths. The school district did not respond. He also asked for past or future dates when students would receive the handouts. Again, the district failed to respond.

I think that about covers it.

“It really caught me off guard,” a Farmville Central High School student who was in the class told me. “If we are not allowed to talk about any other religions in school – how is this appropriate?”

Schools are allowed to talk about religion though it's just supposed to be neutral.

Considering other people have shown your accusation is without merit, would you care to retract YOUR comment.

You talking about the comment from an unknown high school student?

Is that what you consider evidence?

The school not replying is not evidence.

There is no solid evidence anywhere in there.

The fact the school couldn't produce the requested materials is evidence. This scandal would have gone away if they had similar coursework involving other religions, but they can't produce what currently doesn't exist.

The school did not produce. Refusing to provide information is not proof of guilt.

It isn't a scandal.

We have the evidence of them promoting Islam, if they could produce similar educational material involving other religions then this would go away. The fact they are unable to do so, speaks volumes.

It isn't a scandal.

It looks like it'd only be a scandal in your mind if they were promoting Christianity.
