  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok, thanks everyone. I found one book. It was in a secondhand store. I can't remember the exact title...Pilgrim's Journey? I have since sent it to my mom but I enjoyed it very much.

If it was The Way of the Pilgrim, there is a follow-up book, and they are available on a website. I copied the text and made a PDF though, because the website used up it's bandwidth and was shut down for a few weeks when I started reading it.

If you're interested I can look for the site, but if know I've posted it here before. :)

I need to go back and finish reading it, but I started another book yesterday.

I'm not good with reading long items on screen. But I'd be interested in the title of the follow-up.

Oh sorry. It is The Pilgrim Continues His Way.

I haven't read it. I very, very much want to print out those PDFs so I can read them on paper and make notes. Totally understand on the non-electronic thing. But my printer cartridge has been made smarter. Apparently it now knows that I refill my own and I can't reset it, and I can't afford to and won't pay $50+ for new ink cartridges containing fifty cents worth of ink. So for the moment I am stuck. ;)

There are some good copies on ebay for less than $10 + Free Shipping, might be better than spending money on ink.

I will check into that - thank you. So far, I have bought a few books. I think always from Amazon, from 1 cent to about $6, plus shipping, which comes out to $4-10 per book. I didn't think about the possibility of free shipping on eBay.

I do remember many years ago, I found a seller on eBay who had (new) paperback versions of many outstanding classic Christian titles. Some were by Catholic saints and monastics, some desert fathers, and some from the early reformers. I got combined shipping and I think the books were all $1 or less. If I could find a seller like that again, it would be wonderful (though few titles are ancient enough to be "Orthodox").

I will look though, thank you. Free shipping makes a big difference.

And no worries, I haven't spent so much on ink. I refuse, because I know how cheap it really is. I've been refilling my own for years. Paper ought to be the biggest expense. I do want to make it work though. I have the Philokalia on PDF, and I'm certain I'll want to make notes on it. And that I've never found cheaply anywhere. But so far I don't buy any book I can find on PDF. So I do need to bypass the ink company racket lol.

Thanks again! :)

The sensible folks here (and me, too ;) ), tend to avoid the General Heresies fora, like the plague!

yeah. I mean it was good that initial fella was shown to be in error by quite a few (at least as of yesterday), but that place can be way too much.

I just discovered how to get nice ads in CF!

Went over to AllPosters and did some searching for nice images. Now I'm getting those images in ALL of my advertising spaces. Much better than the ads for clothes where the girls need to put some on. :p

(Which now that I think of it, is kind of odd. Except for a certain type of dress - once - a LONG time ago - I never search for clothes online. :p )

Been sick the last few days. Didn't get to the voice, really, until after liturgy, which was good. Though it's lowered the voice a bit, I'm still 20 cents above G at the low end. at liturgy, they installed the parish counciil. I was triied and convicted of being the president.
