101 Preterist Time-Indicators by David Green

Who thought that was quite eye-opening, how many of these passages are addressing their contemporary audiences and readers, rather than some audience and reader 2,000 years into the future?

Context, folks, context. How did the contemporary audience and readers read these epistles and passages when they were written and distributed throughout the 1st century Palestine and the Roman Empire?

Where did you get the notion that Jerusalem was the target of the final battle? The final battle is against the Church, and it happens world-wide. Read carefully:

"And [Satan's armies] went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them." -- Rev 20:9

1. breadth of the earth = entire earth, by definition

2. camp of the saints = Holy Temple (Eph 21:19-22)

3. beloved city = Church (Eph 5:25; Heb 12:22-24)

4. nature of battle = no physical battle, whatsoever.

Here is some more passages to consider for comparative reasons:

Group A

And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. Matthew 26:18

Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Matthew 26:45

Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me. Matthew 26:46

And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. John 2:13

Now the Jew's feast of tabernacles was at hand. John 7:2

And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves. John 11:55

Group B

Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Phil. 4:5

That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 2 Thess. 2:2

But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. 1 Peter 4:7

Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. Revelation 1:3

And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. Revelation 22:10

So is it "at hand" or not "at hand"?

Don't forget to apply audience relevance to these passages!

THE GREAT TRIBULATION CANNOT FIT THE FIRST CENTURY

A study of the Great Tribulation (“the Time of Jacob’s Trouble” according to Jeremiah 30.7) shows that this period did not occur in the first century. There are a number of reasons why the Great Tribulation, as it is described to us in the scriptures, could not have taken place in the first century, and did not take place, given the historical record that we have. It is wrong to try to “force” this prophesied event into the first century if it did not indeed actually happen during the first century.
Some Reasons Why The Great Tribulation (The Time of Jacob’s Trouble) Cannot Fit The First Century:

(1) There was no "beast" in the first century, who caused all of the inhabitants of the earth to receive a mark in their forehead or in their right hand so that they could buy or sell (Revelation 13.15-18). Such a commandment to the Jews would have caused a widescale riot because of the Scriptural prohibition against receiving marks in the flesh (Leviticus 19.28). The technological capacity did not exist.

(2) There are no historical reports of the ministry of the Two Witnesses, with the astounding Old Testament miraculous signs done by them, fire being called down from heaven, water into blood, plagues upon the masses of humanity, etc. (Revelation 11.3-7).

(3) There are no historical reports of the public murder of these Two Witnesses in the city of Jerusalem in the first century, which was witnessed and rejoiced over worldwide by the nations (Revelation 11.8-11). The communications and technological ability did not then exist as it does today.

(4) There are no historical reports of the public resurrection of these Two Witnesses (Revelation 11.11,12).

(5) There are no historical reports of a great earthquake in Jerusalem immediately following the public resurrection and ascension of these Two Witnesses, which is a public event.
There are many other notable events prophesied to occur during the time of the "great tribulation" period. If this already happened in the first century, we should expect some historical evidence pertaining to this, other than the corrupted report of the Roman sycophant Josephus, which does not (even with its Catholic interpretations) satisfy any of these prophecies.

THE GREAT TRIBULATION CANNOT FIT THE FIRST CENTURY

(1) There was no "beast" in the first century, who caused all of the inhabitants of the earth to receive a mark in their forehead or in their right hand so that they could buy or sell (Revelation 13.15-18).

This article demonstrates the dangers and deceit of futurism: start with a false narrative, and run with it.

There most certainly was such a beast in the first century. His title was the "Emperor of the Roman Empire", and his name was Nero (translated "666",) who had the dubious distinction of fulfilling these prophecies:

"And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations." -- Rev 13:5-7

Nero, who ruled the entire world, persecuted the early Christians (the real SAINTS) for 42 months before committing suicide when Roman soldiers arrived at his door to arrest him.

What better proof do you want? Must Jesus hit you over the head with a stick?

:)

You are both a dispensationalist and confused; but I repeat myself. All Christians know that the Church has both a heavenly and earthly part. Have you been to Church lately?

Wow, what arrogance, especially for one that calls himself a Christian!

Why did Jesus say the Kingdom of God is at hand but also the Kingdom of God is within you?

If this already happened in the first century, we should expect some historical evidence pertaining to this, other than the corrupted report of the Roman sycophant Josephus, which does not (even with its Catholic interpretations) satisfy any of these prophecies.

The Danger Of Preterism William B

The book is symbolic, and don't forget there are two marks spoken of in Revelation.

The Mark of the Beast

and The Mark of God (Revelation 7:2-3)

Deuteronomy 6

Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:

That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. John 19:15

:)

Nero wasn’t the Antichrist because he committed suicide instead of being cast alive into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 19:20). Nero didn’t track all buying and selling. And Nero didn’t force people to take the Mark of the Beast.
