  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How many have actually read The Great Controversy or The Desire of Ages...

... the beast and his image.
No Ignatius Press I suppose then. Hm. Waitaminute I know what you'd like, how about some H.P. Lovecraft?!

[Sonorous raspy voice]: Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and where They shall break through again. He knows where They have trod earth’s fields, and where They still tread them, and why no one can behold Them as They tread.

Much more fun!

There's an excellent book on the meaning and observance of the Lord's day that you might want to read.

I find it helpful that Dies Domini and "The Faith Explained" both appear to admit that "The Lord's Day" was Saturday as given by God in the bible - and then later gets "changed" via tradition.

in Christ,

Bob

BobRyan, if you like reading Ellen White's books that's okay. She's regarded as a prophet in your religion. We'd expect you to have a high regard for her books. But she isn't regarded as a prophet in my Church so her books do not attract the kind of adulation among our people that is evident in your posts.

HMS Richards saw Ellen White Speak - YouTube
H M S Richards testifying to Ellen White being a prophet.
Indeed, she was "much more than a prophet", and she had "no quarrel" with any which called her a 'prophet', for she truly was a "messenger of the Lord".

She is said to be a prophet by Seventh Day Adventists but not by Catholics. Her visions and books are of no special value to me. Her predictions are of no value to me. Her rampant anti-catholicism is of no value to me. In short she matters to you but not to me. And her books are highly prized by you but they are dross to me.

Therefore, you must say the same of all the prophets of Scripture, for they also taught as much. In their writings, and as in hers, the same is given.

In fact, the Great Controversy is the very inspired commentary on Daniel/Revelation/Matthew 24-25, Mark 13, Luke 21, 2 Thessalonians 2, etc.

It begins with the First Trumpet - the Destruction of Jerusalem, and continues in the historic until today, and even yet beyond to the days to soon come.

To leave off from her, is to leave off from John, or Daniel, or Malachi, or Isaiah, etc, Paul, even Jesus the -Prophet- [Deut. 18:15] himself. it is to relegate to nothingness the history that Prophecy so clearly foretold.

Even as they foretold the great rebellion and apostasy of the physical Israel, the Jewish religion [though there was always a remnant], they also foretold likewise the great rebellion and apostasy of the Spiritual Israel, the Christian one [so too a remnant].

The Jews also [greatly] rejected John the Baptist, they spurned the Law of God [they of the Torah and Tanakh, including and especially the Ten Commandments, replacing with many traditions of men [Corban, etc.]] and they [greatly] rejected Jesus and persecuted those who accepted Him.

Many are doing the same today.

I know Rome believes in visionaries, but it amazes me, what 'visionaries' they believe in [I know, as I used to work, very briefly, for a Roman Catholic ministry that dealt exclusively in such 'saints' of Rome], and amazes me more the one they reject.

The true prophets have always thus been rejected for the reproofs sent from God to those they were sent unto.

The titanic system of Roman Catholicism, was given space to repent [1,260 years, see Rev 2:21]. She didn't and will not yet still.

SDA have Ellen White, Mormons have Joseph Smith, Muslims have Mohammad, but I have Jesus Christ. :
Ditto!!
What's remarkable is how boring the works of Mohammed, Joseph Smith, and Ellen White are while the apostolic reflections on the preaching and deeds of Jesus Christ are captivating because they are so interesting.

When the fulcrum of the SDA's position is that they avoid being sinners by showing up in the pew on Saturday and all other believers are sinners condemned for not doing so they pretty much show their phony theology card right out of the gate.

That's about the most dishonest level of understanding we get treated to by them. Hard to take them credible at anything else from that point.

That portrayal is grossly incorrect, even a man of straw. It is not what the Seventh-day Adventist movement teaches, neither the Messenger of the Lord, sister White, according to the Scripture. It reveals ignorance [not-knowing] of the facts, and of the actual literature, even as given in the OP itself. It shows one has not actually read any of it, neither taken the time to honestly and objectively consider it, in what it says.

Any person can show up on the 7th day, sit in a pew, and still be totally lost, and this is clearly taught during very many sermons, Bible Studies, etc.

Please, take the time to actually study what is written and said. Thank you.
