  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How many have actually read The Great Controversy or The Desire of Ages...

That portrayal is grossly incorrect, even a man of straw. It is not what the Seventh-day Adventist movement teaches, neither the Messenger of the Lord, sister White, according to the Scripture.

Apparently a lot of your members who post here missed the message then.

It reveals ignorance [not-knowing] of the facts, and of the actual literature, even as given in the OP itself. It shows one has not actually read any of it, neither taken the time to honestly and objectively consider it, in what it says.

The claim that is first foisted here by your sect is that if one does not exercise the Saturday Sabbath they are sinning by 'breaking' that LAW and are thereby condemned to (at least the possibility) of eternal death.

The point of return response is that none of you ceased being sinners by observing that LAW to begin with, so such claims against other supposed 'lawbreakers' are utter nonsense.
Any person can show up on the 7th day, sit in a pew, and still be totally lost, and this is clearly taught during very many sermons, Bible Studies, etc.

They can do it sincerely and they all remain sinners regardless.

Please, take the time to actually study what is written and said. Thank you.

I am familiar with the dancing verbiage employed on most of these matters. Thank you.

Years ago, when I related to the teacher of a "Bible" study I used to.attend that, "the Bible appears complicated, how do you make it out?,' he replied, "read books about the Bible."

So, off I went to the local Christian bookstore... Over a summer I accumulated and read many books "about the Bible."

Boy did I now know "about" the Bible, never mind that, in actuality, I did not.know the Bible itself, let alone, all the disagreements and discrepencies that books "about the Bible" always gloss over, for their author's collective failure to quit paaroting those "books about the Bible" they have obviously gotten their own books notions out of.

After not too long, I grew weary of not knowing the Bible itself, and even more so, of books purporting to be "Bible based."

During this time, I was also looking for an assembly I might regularly attend, as each appeared more "commentaries and seminaries" based then whatever actually being Bible based might.

Sometimes it happens that you come to be aware of what you no longer want than of what you do. So you search, and as you do, you find your way, if you continue to.question things with an.open mind - Acts 12:11.

When I at last found an assembly I found as curious about the Bible itself as determined to be taught by it, I stuck around, that I might examine what was what.

Around this time, I had begun to shift my focus to that of how I might possibly find out what principles the Bible itself teaches about how to study it, and I began to catch a glimpse of its still far off, but at least on the horizon now - shoreline.

One day, after an encounter with some Mormons, when I asked the co-pastor of the assembly I was now attending, what be a good book about dealing with Mormons, he simply said to me, "Just read Romans and then Galatians - Galatains is a commentary based on Romans, that addresses issues of works very similar to how Mornon doctrine."

So, that was what I did, and sure enough, when they returned, I not only understood where they were coming from, but could point to paasages in Romans and Galatains on said issues.

As I always ask what else I might apply a principle to, I began to apply the principle that co-pastor had implied by his answer, and by this I began to learn how the Spirit leads - through His Word.

I highly suggest this simple way to all.

What's remarkable is how boring the works of Mohammed, Joseph Smith, and Ellen White are .

Whatever happened to "these books were too big and did not read them"??

Wasn't that you???

BTW - nobody can actually read the last chapter of the Great Controversy and then claim it is boring.

The Controversy Ended

Can't be done.

And of course when you view the index of chapters
The Great Controversy | Ellen White | John Wycliffe | Martin Luther

The one on the 2nd coming - is impressive as well

God's People Delivered

And it starts something in an obviously not-boring fashion like this

The people of God—some in prison cells, some hidden in solitary retreats in the forests and the mountains—still plead for divine protection, while in every quarter companies of armed men, urged on by hosts of evil angels, are preparing for the work of death. It is now, in the hour of utmost extremity, that the God of Israel will interpose for the deliverance of His chosen. Saith the Lord; "Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth . . . to come into the mountain of the Lord, to the Mighty One of Israel. And the Lord shall cause His glorious voice to be heard, and shall show the lighting down of His arm, with the indignation of His anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones." Isaiah 30:29, 30.

With shouts of triumph, jeering, and imprecation, throngs of evil men are about to rush upon their prey, when, lo, a dense blackness, deeper than the darkness of the night, falls upon the earth. Then a rainbow, shining with the glory from the throne of God, spans the heavens and seems to encircle each praying company. The angry multitudes are suddenly arrested. Their mocking cries die away. The objects of their murderous rage are forgotten. With fearful forebodings they gaze upon the symbol of God's covenant and long to be shielded from its overpowering brightness.
By the people of God a voice, clear and melodious, is heard, saying, "Look up," and lifting their eyes to the heavens, they behold the bow of promise. The black, angry clouds that covered the firmament are parted, and like Stephen they look up steadfastly into heaven and see the glory of God and the Son of man seated upon His throne. In His divine form they discern the marks of His humiliation; and from His lips they hear the request presented before His Father and the holy angels: "I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am." John 17:24. Again a voice, musical and triumphant, is heard, saying: "They come! they come! holy, harmless, and undefiled. They have kept the word of My patience; they shall walk among the angels;" and the pale, quivering lips of those who have held fast their faith utter a shout of victory.

It is at midnight that God manifests His power for the deliverance of His people. The sun appears, shining in its strength. Signs and wonders follow in quick succession. The wicked look with terror and amazement upon the scene, while the righteous behold with solemn joy the tokens of their deliverance. Everything in nature seems turned out of its course. The streams cease to flow. Dark, heavy clouds come up and clash against each other. In the midst of the angry heavens is one clear space of indescribable glory, whence comes the voice of God like the sound of many waters, saying: "It is done." Revelation 16:17.

That voice shakes the heavens and the earth. There is a mighty earthquake, "such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great." Verses 17, 18. The firmament appears to open and shut. The glory from the throne of God seems flashing through. The mountains shake like a reed in the wind, and ragged rocks are scattered on every side. There is a roar as of a coming tempest. The sea is lashed into fury. There is heard the shriek of a hurricane like the voice of demons upon a mission of destruction. The whole earth heaves and swells like the waves of the sea. Its surface is breaking up. Its very foundations seem to be giving way. Mountain chains are sinking.

Inhabited islands disappear. The seaports that have become like Sodom for wickedness are swallowed up by the angry waters. Babylon the great has come in remembrance before God, "to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath." Great hailstones, every one "about the weight of a talent," are doing their work of destruction. Verses 19, 21. The proudest cities of the earth are laid low. The lordly palaces, upon which the world's great men have lavished their wealth in order to glorify themselves, are crumbling to ruin before their eyes. Prison walls are rent asunder, and God's people, who have been held in bondage for their faith, are set free.

Graves are opened, and "many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth. . . awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." Daniel 12:2. All who have died in the faith of the third angel's message come forth from the tomb glorified, to hear God's covenant of peace with those who have kept His law. "They also which pierced Him" (Revelation 1:7), those that mocked and derided Christ's dying agonies, and the most violent opposers of His truth and His people, are raised to behold Him in His glory and to see the honor placed upon the loyal and obedient.

Thick clouds still cover the sky; yet the sun now and then breaks through, appearing like the avenging eye of Jehovah. Fierce lightnings leap from the heavens, enveloping the earth in a sheet of flame. Above the terrific roar of thunder, voices, mysterious and awful, declare the doom of the wicked. The words spoken are not comprehended by all; but they are distinctly understood by the false teachers. Those who a little before were so reckless, so boastful and defiant, so exultant in their cruelty to God's commandment-keeping people, are now overwhelmed with consternation and shuddering in fear. Their wails are heard above the sound of the elements. Demons acknowledge the deity of Christ and tremble before His power, while men are supplicating for mercy and groveling in abject terror.

in Christ,

Bob

If only you did believe them, for they foretold of the end-time prophetic movement.
My bible is reliable in telling me that the preaching and teaching of Jesus Christ is the end-times prophetic movement that the old testament prophets were waiting to see and predicted.
Hebrews 11:32-40 NAB (32) What more shall I say? I have not time to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets, (33) who by faith conquered kingdoms, did what was righteous, obtained the promises; they closed the mouths of lions, (34) put out raging fires, escaped the devouring sword; out of weakness they were made powerful, became strong in battle, and turned back foreign invaders. (35) Women received back their dead through resurrection. Some were tortured and would not accept deliverance, in order to obtain a better resurrection. (36) Others endured mockery, scourging, even chains and imprisonment. (37) They were stoned, sawed in two, put to death at sword's point; they went about in skins of sheep or goats, needy, afflicted, tormented. (38) The world was not worthy of them. They wandered about in deserts and on mountains, in caves and in crevices in the earth. (39) Yet all these, though approved because of their faith, did not receive what had been promised. (40) God had foreseen something better for us, so that without us they should not be made perfect.

1 Peter 1:10-12 NAB (10) Concerning this salvation, prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and investigated it, (11) investigating the time and circumstances that the Spirit of Christ within them indicated when it testified in advance to the sufferings destined for Christ and the glories to follow them. (12) It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you with regard to the things that have now been announced to you by those who preached the good news to you (through) the holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels longed to look.

Movement? I suppose one could goof and suppose they know when the end times are and mistake the writings as future event. Ms. White's predecessor did just that. Birds of the feather Miller and White.

There is a man who hangs around the marina here. He say's he's Jesus. I don't believe him either. But I do give him a few bucks when I see him. It seems to help the DTs and the delusions of grandeur and allows a bit to eat as well.

1 out of 613 is a far cry from keeping the law. Not to mention that they break the one they say they keep.

Those commandments can be so troublesome when you try to keep them all. 613 is a lot!

Mind you, driving one's car to a church that's 30 mins from your house is probably contrary to the letter and possibly the spirit of the seventh day sabbath commandment.

Yes. I would also hope they pull the main fuse on the electrical panel before the service. It may be a bit dark but they could use candles....oops I guess not. Wax candles are a no no too not being in the bible. Too Roman Catholic.

No such number in Scripture. Man of straw. Scripture says, "the Ten Commandments", the Great "first" and Great "second", and "one Law", but nowhere says anything about 613.

O.T. Israel lite for christians.

"Well, obeying the 613 didn't' work. Let's just try 10 for now."

And lest we forget to call it a strawman for dramatic effect.;)

Adam and Eve had ONE LAW and completely blew it.

Why believers think they can improve on those odds is the only strange part.

That being said, I do LOVE the LAW, every jot and tittle of it.

And I believe it is rightfully against all lawlessness. Even if that means it is against ME.

A bit harder to go there, but a very satisfying step.

Since when did Jesus' death upon the cross change the laws of God in health for mankind?

Read Acts 15, closely, and prayerfully [seriously], and you'll see something amazing there, as the Council there, even by the mouth of James cites the heath laws straight from the Torah/Pentateuch, and that is not the only place. :)

A lot of people, abuse some of the writings of Paul, even as Peter warned them not to do.

Read Isaiah 66:17, and see the "when" of such consumation, for consider the context is the 2nd Advent, therefore the passage is speaking to professed Christians...

Yes, I've read The Great Controversy. It's just a history book--and not a very accurate one--with anti-Roman Catholic emphases. I have always wondered where Ellen G. White picked up her copy and what its author had entitled the book.
So, you do not see any connection with what was written over 150 years ago, in dealing with freedom of religion, and a corrupt religious power, yoking with a corrupt state power, and enforcing their "brand" of religion, especially in regards to sunday laws?

You do not see any of it as light, in regards the following facts? - Sunday Law News Update for 2014

Would you be willing to reconsider Chapter 35, Liberty of Conscience Threatened - Ellen G. White Writings

You know that symbol in your sig? it is the Baal Hadad... Sun/Sickle-Crescent Moon, even the Male/Female, and rebirth of the sungod.

Look it up...

Baal Hadad

It is not merely Arabic...
Do you even know why the Arabic letter for n is in her sig? Islamists in Iraq are marking Christian houses with this letter to target them for harassment and death.

That is so funny. You think it took a Divine Messenger to see the blatantly obvious that the church(es) have been in bed with state almost from the beginning?

Any common blind unbeliever could have made the same conclusions.

Your sect has had it's reps in the seats of representatives in the U.S. as well, so don't act all surprised.

Were the lot of you in charge I shudder to think what you'd force everyone to do.
