Is it biblical that we are supposed to win every battle in this life?
I thought we Christians were supposed to expect trials and tribulations in the world. A Christian is expected to undergo suffering. It's only by the last day will all accounts be settled. Am I not correct?
I feel that all these teachings about winning in all circumstances is just happy fluff intended for the ears.
Our victory, being in Christ, is that He has overcome the world,
"In this world you will have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome the world."
This life is a struggle, caught between the old man and the new. It's not going to be a bed of rose pedals. Those who argue that we can have "victorious living" or that with faith we will always succeed in our tasks in this life are simply promoting a lot of hot air.
There is no easiness in following Jesus, it's hard. Christ invites us to come and be with Him and to
die.
So yes, the "your best life now" and prosperity teaching is all nonsense. We may find ourselves destitute, living on the street with rags for clothing with empty bellies and a parched tongue. Not because we have been faithless, but simply because that's life. We aren't going to always succeed, we're going to fail, we're going to fall; we may not get that job promotion, we may not get hired at that next interview, I may lose my job next week, I may take a pay cut, I may get evicted, I may have financial trouble. I may have relationship trouble, my girlfriend may dump me, my wife may leave me, my children may resent me or turn away from me. My family may reject me. My friends may forsake me.
That's life.
Jesus never said we'd have a better life by being His disciple, only that it's
worth it, really and honestly and truly worth it.
